We rented this one a billion years ago. With a tag line like: "Jack Deth is back... and he's never even been here before!", we had no choice really. Great movie.

Jack Death looks like a friend of your dad who seems really cool but years later it turns out he spent his evenings sitting the dark trying to cry.

DUDES. His whole opening monolog about it being July now and he's tired, really tired is the one thing I always remembered from this movie.
They are all on Tubi so I've been watching them reciting that monolog all month of July. Lol

During the 80's a lot of movies like this one got a second life thanks to video stores. Without the video cassette (and later the DVD) a lot of movies would now be completely forgotten.

The best mix of film noir/Blade Runner/The Terminator you'll ever see. Tim Thomerson is great, you should see him in the Nemesis series. Also love that the 'Machine that does nothing' from Airplane 2 is in the background in the lab.

This first "Charles R. Band" production was a Hoot! I saw it on late night/early morning TBS and it was a reason to keep watching for "CRB"
films.;) I'm also a fan of "Cherry 2000," by the way. Also a long-ago fan of "Quantum Leap."

There's a Trancers 1.5 which is a 30 minute short made for an anthology movie called Pulsepounders that didn't get released. It's worth checking out, but not vital. Charles Band had it on the Full Moon Streaming service, and it got a bluray release. Definitely a great series for it's time, as it's pure video store cheese in the best sense.

Given that the time-travel is based on getting your consciousness into an ancestor, it would be an interesting piece of world-building if the movies had explored what might happen if the ancestor was too far back in time, making the blood tie too weak for the process to be completely effective. Also, is the security guard at the mall the same ineffective security guard from Hobgoblins?

    • @brokefangmagepunk3685

This, like "Die Hard" should be regarded as a Christmas movie. 🎄 I saw this movie at The World Theater in Hollywood (CA) during it's initial 1984 release. I probably watch it once a year, usually around Christmas

Oh fuck yeah! It's about time you guys jumped on the Tim Thomerson train. Honestly for what this film is, I think the method of time travel was pretty imaginative and fresh. He's such an underrated actor in my opinion. Y'all should check out Dollman if you haven't already. He's got big Split Second Rugar Hauer vibes in that one. Plus he has an amazing line involving guts and a laundromat. Anyway thanks guys, always look forward to Thursdays cause of you. Cheers lads!

Sure is an entertaining movie with a sci fi but grounded concept, and you know as many movies that involve time travel the script dont try to make full sense, even less with this kind of time travel, is just for you to have a good time and dont analize it much, anyway is a cool movie with good performances, good characters and good production.
Also of course you have to apreciate all the work that goes in the making of the review, Gary and Iain put time and effort and give their best to make this reviews every week

Cult movie franchise with the great Tim Thomerson aka Jack Deth. Watchable, fun time. B style film noir. Some of the sequels are ok?? for what they’re worth...just go with it. Pass the popcorn 🍿.

This film clearly served as an influence on Hideo Kojima's classic videogame "Snatcher". The look of the game's protagonist is so damn close to Deth it's bordering on plagirism! LOL The plot also has elements which originated in "Trancers" yet everytime the game is discussed it's always "Blade Runner" and/or "The Terminator" which are brought up. "Trancers" could be described as hybrid clone of those films, but "Snatcher" is far closer to "Trancers" than it is either of them IMO.

We saw this in Australia at my neighbour's house, it stunk. After five minutes in we started laughing calling it bodgie cheap shit, we just turned it off. So I never saw this, & never will.
Even then back in the stone age 80's we had some sense to avoid this turd.....so how the fuck is this a cult film now!? And I'm curious, are these fans spawned from Ed Sheeran's sprog soaked socks which lay hidden under his mom's bed? Anyway good review lads.
