Possibly the most awesome film of the 80s and that's saying something! Ramirez doesn't have a deathwish, he says he sought out Connor to make sure the Kurgan doesn't win the prize, to train up a champion in case he's not up to the job. In fairness Brenda doesn't just scream, she saves Connor, she throws him a weapon when they're attacked after the bar scene and attacks the Kurgan after they fall through the window in the final fight, giving Connor time to recover his sword. Talk about the sequels when you do them.
Of all the movies out there, this one happens to be the one I watched the most. I just love this movie :D But let's pretend the sequels don't exist, ok?
Congratulations on 3,000 subscribers guys! Been here over a year now and it's great seeing you get the recognition you deserve! Keep doing what you're doing :)
I was in university for three years and because all my friends have different accents mine has turned into a total hybrid. It's supposed to be Welsh but there's some Irish, Scottish and English and weirdly a bit of American in there. Whenever anyone asks where I'm from and I tell them and they say how come you don't sound Welsh I immediately start with "Did you ever see the film Highlander?"
Brilliant review! Echoed all my sentiments precisely! I first discovered The Highlander as a kid sometime in the mid 80's when Showtime first premiered it on their primetime slot. Luckily for me it was what they billed as a director's cut at the time, which I assume was probably the European release version. Needless to say I was blown away. It was brilliant! Epic in every sense. When news came out of a sequel i was thrilled. When I went to the premiere of said sequel I couldn't have been more pissed at the butchery they performed on my favorite obscure mythos. The whole premise was ridiculous and that piss poor excuse of a Clancey Brown imitation was just sad. Have to agree that Sean Connery was it's only saving grace. Over the years I've given the additional sequels a chance, but none have ever managed to alter my choice of just regarding the first movie as a standalone. Start to end it is a finished product. End of story. I too pray it NEVER becomes the victim of the reboot treatment. The result would be tragic. Not to mention having a bunch of idiots say why it was so much better that the dated original would not only be terribly frustrating, but probably drive me into such a rage I'd have to go on a rampage of Kurgan proportions. Keep up the great work gents. Cheers from Texas!
Great review guys! I love Highlander, one of my favorite 80's cult films and both soundtrack and the score are, in my opinion, one of the best of the decade. Movie has lot of good things, but while the action bits are very well made and movie itself is entertaining, i think that the story of the film and the way it's mixes past and present is the best thing about it, and it really makes you feel for Connor. If only we didn't get the sequels which really fucked up the franchise with each new one. There really should had been only one film. Honestly though, while this and Gunmen (1993) are definitely my favorite Christopher Lambert films/roles, it's not my favorite Russell Mulcahy film. I always liked his 1991 thriller Ricochet much better, which i think is very underrated film, and i highly recommend you guys to check it out because it's extremely fun film starring Denzel Washington as main hero and John Lithgow as villain.
i watched it recently for the first time, thought it was a decent movie, until the ending with that huge final quickening. That was so badass it upgraded to a great movie. Of course the soundtrack was great and Lambert's weird accent, and Sean Connery make it one of kind.
Love this movie and this was a great review. Funny enough, the reason he got hired despite not being able to speak English, is that his agent lied to the people casting. I watched the film with the director/producer commentary and they actually laughed at the whole thing because when Lambert came in for the casting call, they went "do you speak English" and before he could answer his agent said "He's an actor of course he can". Well, after they found out he couldn't they hired someone to teach him, they hired someone to help him on set. And honestly, he did very well. I mean, you can tell he occasionally struggles, but eh. He did great over all. Still, I do laugh at his attempts at a Scottish accent. In any case, I loved the review, great job guys, totally subbed.
Years and years ago, before I watched the movie,a friend of mine told me that the prize was to become mortal!... not sure if that would be a good or bad idea tbh.
+Off The Shelf Reviews The line "it's better to burn out than to fade away" is from an awesome song by Neil Young. Morbid trivia on the topic, apparently Kurt Cobain wrote that line in his suicide note; I guess he took it litterally.
I am not a fan of the second one however I find the 3rd movie to be of a natural progression to the first. Been waiting for this review to pop up for ages, great stuff.
5:12 I lost it to "a massive swordfight" because I was just laughing the whole scene on how stupid the fight was, especially when you're given no context why they'd be using some nerdy swords instead of guns in the 80s, right?
I haven't watched this movie in ten years. It was my favourite film back in the old days. Guess I'm gonna have to watch it again. I really DID hate all the screaming, though
I think that if you fellas review Highlander 2, it is important to make a clear distinction between the terrible 'Quickening' first release and the later improved director's cut A.K.A. 'Renegade Version'.
Hi guys this is TJ I'm from Glasgow and myself and my Dad were thinking you should review Pathfinder starring Karl Urban or even else review the John Wick Franchise that has Keanu Reeves Action that you guys will love
TV series was fairly enjoyable as a young teen in the 90s. I preferred the series backstory compared to the Immortal Alien nonsense from the second film. Which the second film isn't even the worst of the franchise, they actually got worse from there.
Still watch every episode you guys keep it up! Also Iian i was wondering if eventually we can here you say "I'm the love child of Bruce Cambell and Micheal Bay!" It would kill me!!
~now is THIS the greatest movie ever made ?!? . . . and (8:21) how many people have walked up to sean connery since its release and said "you look like a woman you stupid haggis" !lol! probably not enough! . . .
Once again a great review to a classic movie. And talking about Queen, how could anyone not like Queen, I mean seriously ??? And while we're talking about Queen please review Flash Gordon, I love that movie. So campy, so corny but boy does it show that everyone was having fun filming it and it's got one of my personal favorite Bond's in it, the greatly underrated Timothy Dalton, awesome stuff.
Alex Lynn Highlander The Source is unwatchable! I would rather watch a Male lion murder the Cubs of another Male lion's pride than watch "The Source" again.
+Off The Shelf Reviews jaja allright, i just never saw it except for a few pictures so i dont know how bad can it be. I did watch the end of The Source and it was indeed fucking confusing

Clancy Brown would have made a fine terminator and lol at the John Candy devil scene you guys put in there!
Of all the movies out there, this one happens to be the one I watched the most. I just love this movie :D But let's pretend the sequels don't exist, ok?
What sequels?
The second movie was so bad and so far off from what the first one was I was shocked to learn that Russell mulcahy was even involved with it
I like the kurgan
@@darran311 I like the kurgan
@@ConnorWilson2891 liked clancy brown in everything I've seen him in
Congratulations on 3,000 subscribers guys! Been here over a year now and it's great seeing you get the recognition you deserve! Keep doing what you're doing :)

you should just use the Russell Nash line : "lots of places"
"Lots of different places "

Highlander was the first R rated movie I saw in the theatre when I turned 18, AND IT WAS AWESOME!
i watched it recently for the first time, thought it was a decent movie, until the ending with that huge final quickening. That was so badass it upgraded to a great movie. Of course the soundtrack was great and Lambert's weird accent, and Sean Connery make it one of kind.

Iain: And if you don't like any of those things... then get the fuck out...
Gary: (nods silently)
To me, the prize sounds like an absolute nightmare. Imagine having everyone's thoughts in your head. Sounds more like a punishment.
Years and years ago, before I watched the movie,a friend of mine told me that the prize was to become mortal!... not sure if that would be a good or bad idea tbh.
Finally, I've been waiting for you guys to review this.
+Off The Shelf Reviews The line "it's better to burn out than to fade away" is from an awesome song by Neil Young. Morbid trivia on the topic, apparently Kurt Cobain wrote that line in his suicide note; I guess he took it litterally.
Highlander 1 is the best, second is bullshit, third is not so bad, I'd say its ok
Classic. Great review.
Sean used to be my Grannies milkman.
This is one of those movies I somehow never managed to see. Now that I know more about it, I'll definitely have to seek it out now.
One of my favorite films of all time. So glad to see you two screwheads review it ;). Favorite line: "Forgive me father...I am a worm."
Next to the movie I thought the Highlander TV series was great made Adrian Paul's career.
What Career. he has done nothing but straight to video movies since he quit.
There can be only one HIGHLANDER
I was aware of the show before the movie
Apparently spoken by Connery in his toilet over the phone😀
I am not a fan of the second one however I find the 3rd movie to be of a natural progression to the first. Been waiting for this review to pop up for ages, great stuff.
This film is my childhood, i had it on VHS! Another fantastic review
5:12 I lost it to "a massive swordfight" because I was just laughing the whole scene on how stupid the fight was, especially when you're given no context why they'd be using some nerdy swords instead of guns in the 80s, right?
I like Highlander, but I though it was cheesy even back in the day. And MacLeod having that soft voice was off-putting
Yes! this movie is awesome! thank you for doing the review!
The soundtrack of this (plus ofc the movie itself) is just magical.. #missyoufreddie
The highland parts of the movie are just yer usual Friday & Saturday nights in Glasgow by the way, INTAY THUM!
I absolutely love Highlander. I thought End Game was the only sequel that was ok.
TV show was ok I guess, honestly never seen the whole thing.
I liked both Highlander 2 and the TV series actually but the first Highlander is the pinnacle and Connor is the only highlander
I hope a The Princess Bride review is on the horizon :)
+EddyVitkauskasXband What is it with everyone and that film, dont get me wrong it seems its just me!
Michael Sutton It's a kind of magic ; )
EddyVitkauskasXband Haha might have to give it another go...just because of that shout :-)
13:09: Best reaction ever...!!!
Definitely feel ya'll about Brenda; after Heather she was weak sauce. Connor had more chemistry with his old secretary.
OH NO YOUR PRINCE OF DARKNESS REVIEW!!!! :'( wheres it gone???
Hi guys this is TJ I'm from Glasgow and myself and my Dad were thinking you should review Pathfinder
starring Karl Urban or even else review the John Wick Franchise that has Keanu Reeves Action that you guys will love
~rumour is, the guys that did john wick are doing the highlander re-boot . . . could be good
it wont be. fuck reboots leave it alone.
I always think about zardoz
I highly recommend this and the third films and that's it.
A wonderful review of my favourite movie haha Subbed!

30 years ago it bombed. today it's considered a cult classic in America that spawned a popular USA tv show, a good cartoon, and some bad sequels.
Can you Review alien vs predator
yes!
Here we are born to be kings of the universe!!!
They retconned Highlander 2 - thankfully. It's very goofy.

Erm, Kastagir?
Do Flash Gordon

Ya know, Highlander 2 is bad, but I think Highlander The Source is the worst of them all
Alex Lynn Highlander The Source is unwatchable! I would rather watch a Male lion murder the Cubs of another Male lion's pride than watch "The Source" again.
Frenchman playing Scotsman
Scotsman playing Frenchman
the bugles? fnaaar!
Lo Pan!
highlander the raven was ok
The Ramirez character makes no sense, and dies like a twat. Clancy Brown is amazing in this movie, though.

+Off The Shelf Reviews jaja allright, i just never saw it except for a few pictures so i dont know how bad can it be. I did watch the end of The Source and it was indeed fucking confusing
+Off The Shelf Reviews Exactly. A movie with that tag line should never have had any sequels...ever!
+Nikolai Quack agreed! Like buying 10 everlasting pens! Or Never Ending Story lol
:)
Nnnnnnrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhh.
