    Once the director showed me some pictures on his phone I should copy. A few minutes later, I asked to see those pictures again. Nobody understood... "What pictures? Why?" Someone finally got it. "Reference. Show him the reference" Ah OK. Now I'll never forget "reference".
    I'm an American in Korea, so there is some communication difficulty anyway.

    Years ago, a prospective agent in an initial interview said off-handedly that she wasnt going to ask me for a monolouge. I just fell into the one I had in my back pocket... she was so surprised she wouldn't let me leave till I signed with that agency. Monologues are but a tool and it's good to have one (or two) in your acting quiver. But I agree, scene study should be emphasized more and especially early.

    It is 2020. The majority of auditions aren’t even in person anymore. Nobody uses hard copy headshots or resumes anymore. Everything is digital.

    • @ActingCareerCenter
      @ActingCareerCenter  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      While I agree with you that the vast majority of submissions are digital now and over 80% of my auditions are self tape, to say that NOBODY uses hard copy headshots and resumes is simply not true. I was asked to bring a headshot and resume to callbacks at least five times in the last year. Sure, that is a tiny fraction compared to years prior, but to tell people they will never need a physical headshot ever again is both inaccurate and irresponsible.

    • @ActingCareerCenter
      @ActingCareerCenter  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      They may or may not tell you how the character reacts in the story. But you, as the actor, can also make the choice of how you want to react.

    • @gertkryeziu1759
      @gertkryeziu1759 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Acting Career Center I have a follow up question when you are in the audition and you picked a certain reaction does the person who is reading the other lines go along or they look at you in a bad way because that is one of my fears in acting

    • @ActingCareerCenter
      @ActingCareerCenter  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gertkryeziu1759 I agree with Alannah's answer. Make a choice and commit to it. Don't worry about doing it "right" because there is no such thing. Everyone has a different interpretation. The purpose of an audition is not to show that you can read the mind of the director and know what he/she wants to see. The purpose of the audition is to show that you can act. If they want you to react differently, they will tell you. If they give you a redirect, that doesn't mean you did anything wrong.

    I heard two people recently refer to something as a "Hard Out". What does that mean?

    • @ActingCareerCenter
      @ActingCareerCenter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm guessing that means a certain individual (usually an actor) needs to be wrapped at a specific time. For example, child labor laws may prohibit a 16 year old actor from working more than 8 hours on set. So if that actor had an 8am call time, we might say they have a "hard out" at 4pm.

    Love this video, helpful and clear as usual. 🙌 A little off topic but I wonder what your advice would be for someone just getting into the Atlanta film industry now, during this crazy time with the pandemic? I assume most things are on pause, but would you still recommended looking for online classes and places to self-submit video auditions? Or perhaps you recommend moving to Atlanta down the road because of a lack of work? Lmk, and really, thanks so much for all your work.

    • @ActingCareerCenter
      @ActingCareerCenter  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The pandemic is still evolving and nobody really has concrete answers right now so anything I would say would just be guessing on my part. Continuing to train via virtual classes is always a good idea. Self submitting to projects that are starting up is fine but if it is a non-union project, make sure to check if they are following all safety precautions. As far as moving goes, that's gotta be a personal decision for you. The lack of work is universal right now, not just Atlanta.

    Hi there. I was wondering if you could answer a question of mine. So basically when you are starting out and you want to audition it is almost certain that you will be going up against people that have a more admirable resume than you. Which leads me to the question how did you go up against experienced individuals did it seem like there was favouritism towards those people?

    • @ActingCareerCenter
      @ActingCareerCenter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, there will be favoritism towards actors with stronger resumes. That is just one of many obstacles that you will face throughout your career. You can't be scared of the competition or you'll never survive this industry; it's the most competitive in the world. Keep taking acting classes and improving your craft so that you become better than everyone else.

    For a callback do they contact the manger/agent or do they call the person who auditioned?

      If you have and agent they will notify the agent. If not, they will notify you directly.

    Does this count as acting classes?

    • @ActingCareerCenter
      @ActingCareerCenter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. My TH-cam videos are not a substitute for acting classes. In a real class, you are performing in front of the teacher and they are giving you feedback, telling you what you did well and what you need to improve. I'm not able to do that via TH-cam.

    when you have to do 2 takes on an audition, do you have to react different on the second take or do you have to do the same reaction as in the first take?

    • @ActingCareerCenter
      @ActingCareerCenter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, you should make different choices for each take.

    For call backs, will you repeat what you prepared the first time over and over again or are you expected to prepare something new and different for each call back?

    • @ActingCareerCenter
      @ActingCareerCenter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should do what you did the first time because that is what got you the callback. However, be prepared for them to ask you to do something different because that can always happen at callbacks.

    Are you normally expected to memorize the script if only given 2 days to prepare?

    • @ActingCareerCenter
      @ActingCareerCenter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends how long it is. If it is 10 pages, they probably won't expect you to have it memorized. If it is 5 pages or less, then they will most likely expect you to have it memorized with 2 days to prepare.

    Thank you for the videos they are so helpful! thank you so much I'm wondering if you have a video or could you possibly do a video on the proper way to slate. I've been told you should always smile at the beginning of your slate but I'm not sure if that's always appropriate? Thanks again really appreciate you!

    • @ActingCareerCenter
      @ActingCareerCenter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should definitely smile in your slate if it is for a commercial audition. If the audition is for a movie or a show, you can decide whether to smile or not based on your character
