      @@serenamahoney2109Did you watch the video? Kurt emphasizes how important it is to get training. He has continued to get training through his entire career. I’m just getting started myself-am in rehearsals for my very first play, which is being produced by a community theater-and it’s made a huge difference to have taken classes. Of course the play itself is essential experience as well, but I intend to keep taking classes, because the more I learn, the more I realize how much more there is to learn.

    Ok this blows my mind. I have been pursuing an acting career for three decades and live in Los Ángeles. The struggle is super real. Drop off, workshops, mailers, classes, networking events, headshots galore, reels, sites, self submitting, managers, agents, still don't have this success. In 2020 went to coding boot camp cause was tired of being broke and needed new actor survival job. Been miserable and depressed cause it's not acting. Had a baby 10 months ago and is also when I stopped my software engineer work but now desperate to work again. Don't want to code, want to act. Here watching your channel trying to demystify what the heck I need to do differently cause 30 years is a long time to want it and have very little success. Ready for things to change. Of course there is a strike but really need to figure this out cause it's still my dream and I'm trying not to be bitter about how easy it was for others. Very frustrated and really want to make my dreams come true.

      A lot of actors are also software developers. It's a convenient job to have as an actor as long as you work independently and not for some company that has you on a strict schedule. My best friend is also a software developer & actor.Personally I don't believe in destiny - if you want it, go get it. I'm an actor because I love to act, not because I think it's my "destiny".

    Like I said in one of your other videos; I’m from Ohio and I still currently live here and theirs really nothing going on with the film production industry around Ohio especially around Zanesville Ohio: it’s like walking into a ghost town, I need to be in your shoes but I just don’t know where to start honestly because I want this career it would be my passion to pursue something like this. I don’t mind working a regular job but I just don’t see myself doing the same job for the rest of my life I would rather follow out a job that I’m passionate about and to get to know people more…I’t would be a dream ; I’m 20 as of this year and I’m working at a job that I don’t like I’m making good money but I just don’t like the job it’s just not for me, when I get their I just don’t feel the excitement of getting something done like I would acting out on a small film or a Tv set or in general just in front of people I really like to entertain people and I can’t do that at a normal work place; life is really dull if you don’t go for what you’re passionate about I’m really starting to understand that so I was going to search for some acting classes near me or save up money for a couple years or so and take off to go to a known acting school; I’m going to give it my all on this career I need it.

    Hello Kurt! Thank you so much for all of the information you have delivered and brought to the surface about acting. I do have a question though!
    When you first started to get into acting/interested, why did you choose acting? What is your “why”? I started to take classes back in late 2021, but other priorities had come up.
    I have not gone back yet, and I am having a hard time making the decision to jump on the boat to go all in on acting.
    What are some reasons to not start acting? What are some reasons why you should become an actor/model?
    Thank you in advance, I hope you see this!

    You should do a video on how too become an actor as a kid

    • @liquidbraino
      @liquidbraino 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      He didn't become an actor as a kid. He was already working as a software engineer. I didn't start acting as a kid either buy my best friend is a producer/director who has cast kids in commercials that he produced & directed. It can be hard to get work if you're under 16 because production needs a special permit (which costs $600) from the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement- otherwise they're violating child labor laws, at least here in California. That doesn't mean you can't be an actor but it's something to keep in consideration.
      Other than that I think the only advice I could give is the same I'd give to anyone else - get into an acting class. If your school has one (most do) get into it. If they don't have one; find a school in your area - sign up for classes (with parents consent of course). If there's no acting schools in your area and your school doesn't offer a "theater" class - almost every acting teacher in the world is now teaching online classes via Zoom. My teacher is Kathleen Randazzo from Playhouse West, her teacher was Jeff Goldblum and Jeff's teacher was Sanford Meisner. And she does teach an online class but don't just sign up with her because I mentioned her name. Check out as many teachers as you can and find the one that's right for YOU.

    I'm curious, how do you feel about the Pittsburgh area for film and TV? I live close to Pittsburgh, and I've worked as background and featured background on a tv show and several movies. Pennsylvania is getting more and more productions to come here, also because of their tax credit for film and tv. Also, thank you for taking the time to help others who have the same dream that you have brought to life. All of your videos are jam packed with great info and tips! Thanks again, and I'm looking forward to working with you some day.

      I'm not familiar enough with the state of film and television production in the Pittsburgh area to be able to give my opinion on that. Use other actors in the market as a barometer. Are you consistently seeing local actors in major television shows and movies? I can definitively say that about Atlanta. My friends have been in Stranger Things, Walking Dead, Cobra-Kai, Marvel movies, Disney movies, and many more.

    Thank you Kurt, would like to ask for your opinion (as much as just "commiserating"!)- Had tried industry from writing route, knew some already working in TV, did college/community theater; light exposure, but... dropped it from "real" statistics on making it, didn't want 500 auditions over 5 years (had how live during), etc.
    Did "day job"; became school teacher. Hard job, but years go by. Now still grind my teeth when I see a great performance, or just went to a convention, and see those on a series talking on a panel or selling photos (but .... truth is, how'd they get there, yes?)
    Question... 1) continue lament/missed something(?), 2) go back still try now (age 40/50 on?), 3) or know it is a hard gig , okay did something else/yes, would be nice to do a casted role, but....and just don't cry at seeing those at conventions? :)
    Not discounting just do what can- keep writing, maybe TH-cam even a small channel... Maybe self-tapes still ... that's something? And now with "extra" work possible cut, strikes cutting out a lot...?
    Thank you for help and work!

    Thank you so much Kurt, you have no idea how much I can relate. The going to an audition during your lunch break part haha I’ve been there. Btw the timing is perfect, I was about to ask you if you could make a video about your journey. I’ve been feeling a little stuck because I thought I would be better off going all in on software development (I am junior, almost semi senior) and then fully pursue acting but now I don’t know, I have no idea how long that’s going to take, plus, I already know where my heart lies... I guess I just need to be more patient and change my priorities a little bit so I don’t end up so stressed out about it. On another note, due to the nature of your previous profession, did you approach acting more analytically at first as well? I am slowly becoming better at not thinking that much, specially in improv. Take care!! 💕💕

    • @ActingCareerCenter
      @ActingCareerCenter  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Totally get the mental struggle. I walked away from a high paying career to do something that was going to be riskier and earn much less. I still don't make as much as I used to as a software developer, even with my multiple side hustles, but I am 10 times happier than I was back then. Wouldn't trade it for the world.
      I definitely approached acting very analytically when I started and still probably do more than most other people. I don't think it's a bad thing though. Everybody has their own method and mine seems to be working well for me.

      @@ActingCareerCenterI really needed this right now. I am miserable with software engineering and want my acting career to take off so bad. I've been pursuing an acting career for 3 decades and so don't have your results. I went to coding boot camp in 2020 so I could increase my income so I could funnel that money into acting (headshots, reels, training, etc) . I stopped coding 10 months ago when I had my baby and now the money has run out and there is a strike (not that I was making money from acting anyway). I really want an acting career more than anything else and feel it more intensely now that I have a baby. Trying to figure out if I should force myself to be a software engineer again or get my side hustle on. Side hustles aren't acting either. Def thought TH-cam for one side hustle. What are all your side hustles? Also any thoughts for someone who been chasing this dream for 30+ years and still does not have your results?

      My best advice is what you already said. Start taking acting class now and improve yourself as an actor before anything else. If you are planning to move to the US, do your research on what city is best for you. New York, Los Angeles, and Atlanta are the three biggest markets for actors right now.

    • @liquidbraino
      @liquidbraino 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Work on perfecting an American accent first. I have a friend at school (an acting school) who's from Germany and I had no idea she was from Germany for about six weeks because she never spoke with a German accent. BTW, she was 18 when she arrived in the US and started training immediately. She perfected her American accent before she even came over here & the reason that's a good idea is because most of the roles you're going to be submitting for are not going to be looking for someone with a German accent. I would say make that priority #1 & #2, get into an acting class right now; where you already are then CONTINUE training after you arrive in the US.
      I have lots of friends that came here from other countries and occasionally they have problems with their Visa and end up having to go back home; figure things out; some never come back. And I think it's because there's different types of Visa's like a student Visa; an Entertainment Visa and the problem with getting an Entertainment Visa is that you can ONLY do entertainment work which you're not going to be able to survive on and pay your rent. Not starting out anyway, unless your family is rich and willing to pay for your food; housing; training; headshots; etc. I think it's best to get a student Visa because you'll want to continue training after you get here anyway PLUS you can get a regular job in order to pay your rent and pay for acting classes. But of course I'm not an expert on US Immigration laws - that's something you're going to have to research on your own. I just know that it's something which can hold you back if you get the wrong kind of Visa.
