    • @chuggermagic

I did an acting module in the last year of school and received literally zero instruction, just given a script and thrown on stage. The teacher saw that I didn't know what I was doing, instead of giving a 5 minute lesson on the very basics was just given a role as a plant pot basically. Extremely demoralising.

I came here looking for some basics of acting, as a begginer I recorded myself with the monologue, and it turned out pretty weird to me 😅 my social skills are almost zero, it wasn't always the case, infact I was a social butterfly but something happened that changed me into someone who stopped going out with people, not making friends anymore, speak only when spoken to. It has taken a toll on my confidence so much that I used be a natural actor and now, I don't know who I am anymore 😭

In 12th grade in school we had a theater project... We had two casts for each role because we had like 4 performances... The person who played the same character as me also thought that anger = yelling = good acting... While he did his job pretty good, I think that yelling just didn't fit the character there... I tried it in a calmer and colder way and people actually liked it...

At the end when you talked about committing to a choice to show you can act, reminds me of one of my favourite casting stories. Chadwick Bosman auditioned for Drax for Guardians of the Galaxy. The casting directors said he played him with a calm powerful regality that didn't quite fit what they had in mind so he didn't get the role. But low and behold when they needed a Black Panther, guess who was the first person they called? Chadwick truly believed in his choice for Drax was right. It turned out to be the exact opposite of what they wanted but his commitment to his choice showed them something crucial. That he was an MF ACTOR, and he was confident, talented, and knew his shit. He wouldn't have been able to show off his range if he didn't do his homework and committed 100% to his choice. And hey, Directors took notice of his talent and kept him in mind for other projects. Rest in Peace legend.

Then I realized my eyebrows never changed, so I started paying more attention to what each muscle in my face was doing while I was acting and modeling. If your scared or surprised, you can't just widen your eyes and open your mouth. You need to shoot those eyebrows up there. If you're confused, you might raise one eyebrow as high as you can. Amazing video!!! Plz post these type of videos for aspiring actors as it is very hard to go to an acting class due to this pandemic!! Atleast we'll learn some acting skills from you instead of wasting our time and waiting for COVID-19 to get over!!

Sounds like interpreting music, singing and dancing, bringing it to life, its soul, you are an instrument for it to channel through you, like Elvis who danced, and sang, he connected to the soul of rock and roll which made him great not the other way around.

I thought thats the director’s Choice to tell you how to approach the Lines and scene.. thanks sir I’m learning things from you everyday.

It's a collaboration with the actors. But typically, the director does have the final say.

Really diggin this video.. and learning a lot .. I appreciate the time ya take to pass on your knowledge & techniques to be successful in this career... people think acting is “ easy”.. I’m here to tell ya.. in my opinion.. if you think it’s easy to “ act”.. you’re not doing it right ... I can only specie myself I know.. so I will... I painted for almost 40 years and have busted my hump in a 12-16 hour day... yeah... of course I came home tired.. but, I did a 6 hour shoot and by the time I was done & I got home I was sick to my stomach tired .. emotionally shot down.. and I slept like a baby that night. I know ( for me) that I put everything I have into my roles.. not that I have to dig down deep to bring out my character.. it’s not that.. all my roles so far has been “ the heavy”.. and often had the directors I’ve worked with say “ just be you” how would Roddy handle this or say this”.. which has made it somewhat easier for me. But still when I’m done I am emotionally tired ...

Thanks for the great content. I was just recruited by a modeling agency, in my 50's, and they advised me to do some acting studies since a lot of the jobs they get are TV ads for local companies here in Houston.

I am thirteen and am in a local theatre improv class and a play.I love acting and will do my best in life to act .Even if all I'm ever going to do in life are plays I will cherish ever moment I get.Acting is just like reading, its a different world you get to escape too.But its better you get to be the character you read about and your not just talking to yourself anymore you get to act with fellow actors who are being the other characters! Its amazing, beautiful, wonderful, exciting, scary, and dramatic. Its anything and everything.

Edit: Oh, I just watched the part when he talks about that..

I'm just a self taught person of acting when I started to pursue my dream and practice and reading I've came to my own realizations that actors have done is the exact same as what I've came up with. Example reading a script and you just see the characters qualities basically everything from the expression to what emotions are there in the scene. What is really cool I've never hear anyone being able to do this and that's knowing what gender is talking in the scene without any his,he,she, her and names. Now what I like for me is placing my self into the characters shoes I'm also very good at expressing real emotions wether it be sad angry crying etc that I can do all this on cue because I use my certain memory that ik will make me feel that real emotion. What do you think of this and my question for you is all I've said do I have what actors have and do. I'd love to hear a professionals thoughts.
