When I was 34, I trained from white to blue belt directly under Rickson. I’m still training at 51 as a brown belt, and all I have to say about Rickson is that his philosophies on the mat have helped me off the mat in my marriage, as a father, a friend, a health professional and more importantly as a human being. He’s a mentor and a gift.
I received my blue belt from Henry Akins, one of Rickson's black belts. My style is very heavy on top, and very safe on bottom, I like frustrating higher belts at different schools because of this. Respect to all who roll.

For a person to be a real ‘Master’ they have to be in complete control of every aspect of their life and they should be able to draw the same line from how you’d approach something on the mat to how you’d address something in the office to how you’d address something with your child’s education. To find and keep someone like that in your life is really special.

I witnessed it first hand both black belts from Brazil and guys from any discipline. He destroyed all of them. Effortlessly. It was very very clear to anyone watching that he was different. He was just different then all his brothers and the other black belts.

Only thing he left out was the tonan match, the first couple ofinutes where kron did all the work and out pointed tonan didnt count the ln as soon as they started scoring was when tonan took krons back.
@@jinshin3871 probably something like that and I heard the son-father relationship between Rickson and Helio was better, like Helio would show unconditional love for Rickson regardless success or failure when Rickson was a kid, however things turned weird between them when Rickson grew up and decided to start his own gyms instead representing Helio’s gym, that’s also why Helio ended up choosing Royce instead of Rickson to represent the Gracies to compete in the early UFC
If you are wishing for it I’m sure you already gave that relationship with your son man the best fathers are the ones who dont even realize how close they are with their sons.

I respect Gary so much because he tapped instead of hold and win by points. If he was thinking, he shouldn't tap, but he was just living jiu jitsu and and he saw superiority, he tapped. Great. And him tapping let opening one of the greatest ADCC performance of all times. Kron submitted all of his opponents that day and in the final match, Otavio was avoiding engage all the time, on the last minute he tried take down Kron and win by points, but the baiana exposed his neck and when both touched the ground Otavio was already tapping. That's the level of Kron's submissions that day. It was incredible.
There’s absolutely no way someone is tapping in championship’s with two seconds left out of respect. That’s like saying an NBA team let another hit a game winning layup because they knew the other team was better 😂😂😂😂
Lol 😅 Garry didn't know that there were only 2 seconds left in the match, because there was no one in his corner to inform him, which was very stupid. I'm 99% sure that he would survive if he knew that.
The belly movie at the end there reminds me of Taoist techniques (kinda like yoga) to massage the internal organs. They believed it was important to keep them healthy. Maybe it has something to do with that. Not to mention exercise and control of the diaphragm muscle, important to have a controlled breathing.

He beat Dylan Dennis so he's all good in my book. Six and 0 undefeated in one championship as well. With a couple knockouts which is pretty cool cuz most Brazilian jiu-jitsu guys don't get too many knockouts

Diffrent eras. Roger's career is well documented, you can't say the same about Rickson, but in the 80's he was probably the best in bjj.
