      As someone who is not that deep into Star Wars.. Why is such an external engine necessary? Haven't we seen Star Destroyers use their own hyperspace drives onboard? Is it just because this one is damaged and it was easier to build that ring instead of repairing the ship?

      @@MiTheMerIt’s a bit like taking a transit van and then putting in a V12 in the back. Sure the engine that comes with the van is fine but putting a giant engine in there means you can go a lot faster and they’re traveling over very long distances so the faster you go the less time you’ll be stuck in transit. The SD could likely jump back on its own but that might take years and they might not have the fuel for it

    • @95DarkFire
      @95DarkFire ปีที่แล้ว +31

      @@MiTheMer Hyperspace rings were used in the Republic for ships that can't have their own hyperdrive. Like a booster rocket. The distance between galaxies is so big that the Star Destroyer (or any other ordinary ship) cannot make it with it's own drive. The eye of sion has seven hyperdrives from SUPER (!) star destroyers. That is like 70x the power of a normal SD hyperdrive.

    I love that the Eye of Sion has seven SSD hyperdrives. There is a massive problem with the Chimera in Ahsoka, though. Its the wrong Star Destroyer.
    The Chimera is an ISD-1 class Star Destroyer. The ship in Ahsoka is an ISD-2. The easiest way to tell is that the Comms tower between the two bulbs in is on its back, whereas the ISD-1 class has it standing up. Both versions of the Comms tower are about the same height, so there is no way that it was just damaged. Its also hard to tell, but the front of the tower also looks flat, whereas the ISD-1 has a patio like Bridge extension.

      A lot of the features that the Chimera has in Rebels are more akin to the ISD-2 model, such as the eight-barrelled turbolaser batteries. I like to think that Thrawn, forward-thinking as he is, had the Chimera refitted with hardware slated for the new hulls, essentially making it a prototype to test the new features.

    Thrawn's ship and troopers had a distinct Japanese "Kintsugi" aesthetic. Kintsugi is the art of doing repairs to broken pottery by mending the broken parts with using lacquer and then painting the seams with gold or silver powder. It is supposed to represent the imperfections as sources of strength and beauty.

    • @korylinne2101
      @korylinne2101 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's usually because the VFX teams working on episodes scale ships more for dramatic effect onscreen than going by how big they were designed to be. The Star Trek and Stargate franchises are notorious for mis-scaling ships because of that.

    If you compare the renders of the Ghost from Rogue One/The Rise of Skywalker (like the one currently in the infobox on the Ghost's Wookieepedia article) with shots of the Ghost in Ahsoka and renders of the HasLab Ghost, you can tell that they've reused the same model and just altered/added a few details, like the windows. Things like the "detail trenches" on the sides appear to be identical. This means that the Ahsoka model has lineage back to the model used in Rebels, since they just took the Rebels model and modified it a bit for Rogue One.

      I can see the republic keeping those around. Because its main weapon is a massive tractor beam it has extensive peacetime applications. Considering all the issues of Diswars, ISDs in atmosphere are fine. I mean we know that large ships can land on planets since the evacuation of Hoth.
      I’m more annoyed by Diswars making Star Destroyers, Tie Interceptors and Turbolasers in general, completely useless…
      And the inconsistency of Shields is abysmal..
      Either they last for hours in combat, shrugging off a barrage of Turbolaser fire, or they immediately go down after a single shot…
      It’s annoying.
