For my precision rifles I prefer a flat trigger because I can rest the bottom edge of my finger against the trigger guard as a guide so that I'm squeezing the trigger from the exact same point every time.
For Glocks I love the Agency flat triggers, for my AR I fell in love with the Larue MBT-2 due to it's great pull and good mix of flat and curved trigger profile, my P322 came with a flat and curved....ish...trigger but the flat stays in it, Ruger MK IV has a Volquartsen trigger which is pretty flat (also reduces the LOP which I like), however my shotgun and Ruger 10/22 as it sits now in it's Magpul Hunter-X stock have curved, and will always have curved triggers. I just find the more vertical one's hand gets, the better a more flat trigger feels, but in the opposite direction the more shallow a stock angle gets the better a curved trigger feels. The flat trigger in my Maxim-9, however, is the worst designed trigger I've ever had the pleasure of paying money for, and it's flat, so don't think that a triggers profile ever translates to the quality of its design.
I also like both too now having a Siggy P365XL Flat and other pistols and rifles having everything in between. For anesthetics tho, I like the LOOK of classic fully round triggers like found on early Colt cowboy pistols as well as my dream to have, a German or Swiss Luger P-08. Gorgeous designs, like the vintage houses, castles and cars back in the day.
Just bought a flat faced 3.0 pound trigger for one of my ARs. I like it so far, I tend to pull at the very end of the trigger. It seems very light and crisp.
Personally, I prefer my Hiperfire flatfaced trigger. Although, as mentioned it is cramped while wearing a thick glove. I just prefer a super light single stage on my carbine.
I'm sure there's some sort of an advantage to flat triggers. But when I shot as a kid, I learned on a curved trigger. When I was in the middle east, I used a curved trigger. When I got into long range shooting, I learned in a curved trigger. I FINALLY, after 3 years of long range shooting, bought a trigger that WASNT milspec or factory. And I wanted to only change one variable (weight). I don't see myself jumping to an entirely different ergonomic profile for a trigger. Not this late in my shooting. I'm happy for anybody who finds a benefit. But this is definitely one of those places I'm likely to be PERSONALLY fuddy about (ie, I won't use it, but I'm not going to project my choice onto others).
I’ve slowly been swapping out all of my carbine triggers with flat faced single stage CMC cassettes. After shooting military triggers for 20 years I’ve really come to enjoy the difference between them and these fantastic aftermarket designs. I’ve only got three more AR triggers to swap out.
Comes down to preference. I have switched most of my weapons to a flat profile, it’s just what I prefer. What I would rather listen to debate on is not profile but single vs two stage when accounting for trigger weight. I hear many guys going for a 3.5 or lighter trigger weight in what they consider a home defense unit. They tend to clamor around single stage units. That is scary in my opinion, I feel that requires the user to be training on a regular interval and competent in use. More so than most people are willing to undertake.
I like curved triggers, as it gives me a good index point, but the benefit of a flat trigger, is that you can place your finger anywhere on the trigger, and still get a pull that feels the same.
Love my Geissele SD-E (flat), have them in all my AR's except my large pin Colt and that has an SSA-E only because they don't make the SD-E (curved) for the large pin. I just prefer the feel of the flat. Wish Geissele made triggers for the bolt guns I have. Those all have Timney curved triggers.
Interesting, I am the opposite of Chris. Flat on my Carbine and curved on my pistols. I run the Patriot Ordinance Factory single stage 3.5 lb flat trigger on both my 5.56 and .300 Blkout. They are 3.5 pounds with zero take up and they just break like a glass rod, and with the little lip at the bottom of the trigger, I know exactly where to index my finger. On my pistols, I prefer a curved trigger, when I slide my finger on to the trigger as I am presenting my pistol, my finger just naturally glides across the curved trigger to my preferred location on my finger (wow, almost sound dirty doesn't it). To be honest, I run the OEM trigger on the Sig P320 and the OEM on my Sig P365XL, they just work for me.
My preference are flat face triggers as they just feel more comfortable and finger placement appears to be more consistent. Looking to swap out my Glock trigger for a Johnny Glock Trigger and my rifle has a Geissele SSP because I prefer having one constant pressure to move the trigger as opposed to two stage triggers.
It seems like the answer between curved vs straight trigger is this: It really does not make much of a differance, as long as we can sell you another part for your AR...lol
Does the quality of the trigger mechanism have any effect on the importance of the shape? Or to put it another way, does the length or weight of the trigger pull make the shape more of an issue? Because I don't think I would even notice the shape on any of my firearms, but every firearm I own has a crisp and reasonably light single-stage trigger. Everything I own is manually-operated and/or single-action-only. All are curved, but on some the radius of the curvature is very large so that it effectively behaves like a flat trigger.
Geissele curved two stage for my precision AR and Bolt gun. Nice mill spec for 556 AR curved. Stock Glock trigger for one and flat face Agency for the other (comp) Glock.
I prefer flat on my hand guns; generally speaking. Flat trigger shoes are on my guns that I shoot well and most often. On my carbines I run all 2stage triggers, mixed flat and curved face, most of which have between a 2.5lb and 3.5lb 2nd stage. I will leave it at that, rather than dive down the rabbit hole of highshool hallway arguments about flat vs. Curved triggers. I will say I place good fundamentals higher up than gear/upgrades; meaning if my fundamentals are in tact, I can shoot everything fairly well. Granted, there is always an adjustment period while I get a feel for a gun I'm not used to shooting....
I have Geissele (pronounce the E) on my specialty lowers, NM on my service rifle, SSA-E flat on both 3/2 gun because price was no object and they are very specialized. Duty rifles have the LaRue 2 stage curved because I can’t tell a difference with so many other things going on in that environment. I have a CMC single stage cassette in what has become my back seat rifle that shoots reloads. They are all great/reliable, I don’t pull shots because of the trigger, but I feel more confident with all of them than I do with a mil spec trigger because of the consistency.

From what I understand indexing the very bottom of a flat trigger can make the weight feel lighter because you're further away from the pivot point- maybe not what you want on a duty rifle (even though LaRue is 2.5# 1st stage and 2# second stage on paper) but exactly what you want on a competition rifle.
Lightly press your finger across a pencil and it will help you understand why a flat faced trigger is the more ergonomic design.. A curved trigger focuses all the pressure on a small point of the trigger face and a flat face spreads that load over a greater surface area and makes any weight trigger pull feel lighter to your finger pad.. PS. Any trigger face can be modified to a flat face by filling in the curve with some JB Weld epoxy.. I've done it to several triggers and haven't had a problem with a single one..
I don't focus too much on this. It is nice to be able to pick up a rack grade rifle and shoot it, without being distracted, even if it is a different type of rifle that does not have these additions. About 2.5-3.5 pounds is nice though, for a rifle. 4.5-6.5 for "safe-action" 2-3.5bs for SAO SAO pistols are better with a flat trigger. DA/SA, flat not an option.
Geissele triggers are overrated. Companies have made triggers with a lighter pull weight, no creep, and a shorter reset for half the price of a Geissele. TriggerTech's most basic AR trigger is a good example. Better features at $130.

I Have A Flat Trigger Shoe On One Pistol Build, A Curved Trigger Shoe On Another Pistol Build, A Curved Trigger On My Smith And Wesson, And A Curved Trigger On My AR-15. After Testing Out The Pistol Build With The Flat Trigger; I Decided That I Am Going To Install Flat Faced Trigger Shoes On ALL Of My Guns That Have Curved/Traditional Trigger Shoes. While I Can Shoot Both A Flat Faced And Curved/Traditional Trigger Without Any Issues; A Flat Faced Trigger Shoe Feels Better To Me Than A Curved Trigger. As For Pull Weight I Like My Trigger To Be Lighter Than 4.5 Pounds, But Heavier Than 2 Pounds.
I've been looking at getting an aftermarket trigger for my AR lately and this is what I've learned. Single stage are typically faster (if only barely) because there's no pre travel; you're on the wall from the start. Two stage triggers are more for precision work because they have a short pre travel followed by a clean break. For example- the LaRue MBT has a 2.5# 1st stage and a 2# second stage. Yes you can pull straight through for a roughly 4.5# pull out you can buy a Geissele or Triggertech, or Rise, or any other single stage and have a 3.5# pull from the wall.
Unless you are hunting or shooting long range, just stick with a mil spec. In my opinion, if you can’t shoot good with a mil spec trigger, you shouldn’t be using a nicer trigger. Work on you’re fundamentals first!!!

How much credibility does somebody lose as a supposed subject matter expert on the topic of triggers when tyou hear them mispronounce Bill Geissele's last name?? For me, the answer is actually quite a lot given the reputation and recognition Bill Geissele's triggers have earned in the industry.
I won‘t be able to find flat triggers for all of the guns I shoot regularly so I put them on none. Even if flat triggers are superior and would give me an edge in competition, I‘d rather put all my training into the second best trigger design than having to switch between two different designs back and forth.

Still prefer curved, even distribution and repeatable trigger presses. The straight definitely has more pressure on the center of your finger tip.

I have the same hoodie as jimmy, EXCELLENT choice.. Not super insulated and hot, so I don't burn up, but it's waterproof and enough to break the wind
