- Hi guys,
Resin printing is getting cheaper and cheaper this days.
Many people are thinking about buying a resin printer.
I want to show my workflow with my Prusa SL1 and CW1.
Maybe this helps with the buying decision and maybe some people who already have a resin printer will learn some new/other ways to handle that nasty stuff.
Happy printing!
I just got my own Prusa SL1 and CW1, this is very helpful. Thanks
Great video! Very informative, I just got my printer :) :) ... Thanks for sharing!
Cool video man! Everything people need to know about working with the SL1 is in there. Well done mate!
For prints that fit on the platform in the CW1 I just clean the platform and print at the same time. I use Resinaway to clean everything and just finish it with running water after the Resinaway.
I have a cleaning time in my CW1 for 10 minutes, pre heat to 37C, drying 10 minutes and curing 10 minutes. Overkill I know but better safe than sorry ;)
Resinaway doesn't damage the print if cleaned for 10 minutes but if you use IPA you should never go for more than 10 minutes since you will get cracks and other bad things on your print.
Thanks for your help on Resinaway as I was thinking to give it a try.
Resinaway is awesome and it lasts a LOONG time!
Very nicely done and very useful ! But I do have one question : where do you store the tank full of IPA ? and when do you change the IPA ?
@@3djgprint580 Thanks Jens !
Thanks for the video! I'm looking to buy one of these once they are caught up on there backorders and this video was great!
question about your camera setup ? can you please pst the link it looks great and nice video btw thx
Do you have links of the tools and consumables you use? Like the filter, bottles, gloves, paper towels, ... ?
great video! 😁 Short question, is SL1 worth it compared with Elegoo? I'm curious if the tilted bed helps not to break the supports while printing? Looking for future videos! 😉
Hey! could you please share the link of where you bought your UV trash can? thank you
Hi Simon, I bought the trash can in the local hardware store and installed the UV LEDs by myselfe. It's a normal UV LED strip and some hot glue.
@@3djgprint580 superb thanks, and how long does it takes for curing? its a 405 nm led?
@@imazinGzinGzinG When I bought it I had no idea that it has to be a special wave lenght... I bought a normal UV stripe but it works. I only takes some minutes to cure.
i never print with a pad at the bottom , do you find it easier to remove the print that way ?
Hi, my printer will believed this month i hope! How many failed prints have you had!
Hi , it's all godd now i got my printer :D Last time you told me that new features will be available like spare parts, once you purchase it. You told me that the screen was about 75 dollars, but i didn't find it on the spare parts ta.. I've found, tank, FEP film, film frame, screws etc.... but i didn't see no 2k screen, do you know why ? Thanks again mate, you convinced me to buy one ...
I can not see it too. Maybe it is sold out at the moment. Please ask the Prusa Support.
@@3djgprint580 nope because, other items are sold out and its displayed... I'm on the European site, I try to check on other like US but it seems I'm automatically redirected to the US website...
@@3djgprint580 the important is I know it's available, it's probably a bug, because I will use it at high frequency and a guy told me that you can print 500 hours before it breaks
@@3djgprint580 I already asked Prusa, thanks mate, but I knew you answer quick, and I'm a anxious guy 😁😁, thanks again, thanks for all
@@3djgprint580 Hi, here what they aswered to me:
"Hello,
The screens are not available because they need to be calibrated for the printer and we have to do some tuning and polishing of this process so the customers can do it at home. We should have the solution to this at the beginning of the next year. If you have a problem with your print screen, then contact us and we will provide a solution or a warranty replacement.
Best regards."
I don't understand totally but I suppose they got new series of screens that have to be quality checked. I hope it will come quickly!! By the way on my second print. I got a message : "blower fan fail" but the fans seems to work correctly, I reported that issue. And I've checked on Prusa forum and many people who got the same issue say that's only a firmware bug. I'm currently on Firmware 1.2.3. What can you think about all of this ?? Thanks man..
Good video, but you made few smal mistakes. You used wrong tool to remove the print from the plate, you should use the pallete knife. Also is wrong to remove the part when not cleaned. The isopropil container should be full to cover the part. The print platform should be afrer print connected to the top of the closup of the CW1 container. For this is there an connector for the print platform.
Hi Michael, I know all of that but:
1st I don't want to scratch the platform with a metal tool if it is possible to use a plastic tool.
2nd I don't want to dump more uncured resin into the IPA as needed. I decided to clean the platform with paper towels instead of cleaning it in the IPA bath.
Summer Blowout
Did you buy the kit or the assembled printers? If you bought the kit, what was the assembly like?
I bought the kit, it took about 5 hours to put together, but it was very easy to put together. No real skills needed besides just following their excellent directions.
@@AceXsmurF Thank you, I am looking forward to receiving mine in 3 months!
Hi and thanks for the video, I'm very interested by this bundle, but on prusa website I didn' find any spare parts, like screen for example, i know that screens life in DLP printers can be short. So before buying this, I hope I will have spare parts available. what do you think about it ? thanks
@@3djgprint580 nice to you fot the quick answer!! Thanks do you recommend for jewelry purpose? I think it's a good point if it's suitable for large range of castable resins... Thanks again man!!
@@3djgprint580 no problem, you already help me a lot with your video
Can you just go straight into another print without all the cleaning & emptying? Or is that risking your film at the base of the resin tank?
@@3djgprint580 Thanks very much. Great to see "how it actually works".
You say resin printing is getting cheaper and cheaper these days, not if you're buying one of these. I get perfect prints from my Chinese DLP's and
no tilting necessary. I could buy almost 7 of them for the price of the SL1.
Before the SL1 and the chinese printers came out, the Formlabs was the main printer on the market for over $5000.
In my eyes the SL1 is still one of the cheap printers.
If you have good results, good for you ;)
@@3djgprint580, I really don't think that's the case, the Photon was pretty much the first decent DLP machine that competed with the Form. I know it wasn't without it's problems in some cases but even in the worst case scenario it can still be made to perform perfectly with a £100 dual linear rail upgrade. Joseph is definitely the "i3" king but when it comes to the SL1 it's not in the least innovative or revolutionary as far as resin machines go. Look at it this way, the Facebook Photon group has over 21,000 users whilst the SL1 group has 1.3 thousand. I'd certainly say the Photon is Forms main competition, the Elegoo Mars is probably a close second at this point. Both have the same build volume as the SL1 - they're substantially cheaper too.
@@ajc4477 Resin 3d printers are really overpriced in my country for example I found Anycubic Photon for - 526 usd, ELEGOO Mars for - 434 usd with is insane.
