I think they are Marron Glacé (candied chestnuts), which are, indeed, best store bought due to their extremely effort -consuming nature, unless, of course, one is serious about their patisseries. I have made two attempts in my life at making them, and while both were successful, no further attempt is planned for near future. But i have no doubt a diligent baker like HidaMari here would shy from challenging themselves with Marron Glacé in the future.

I definitely prefer making my own butter vs purchased. Nothing tastes better then organically fed cattle and fresh butter you make from raw milk. Yum! Its so easy too. I was lucky I happened to clean their home/ranch home 1-2x a week. Once we got to chat as friends, it was like an awesome tip each week. I didnt have time to do cheeses but it was a great opportunity if i did. I grew up a few yrs in pahrump nv, where we had goats, chickens and rabbits besides the norm of dogs n cats. However i helped our minister often and ironically a ranch where i rode my bike past to stop one day to pet horses. Apparently noone was able to get close to this new horse he purchased or traded. Tell he saw him come to me like I was his mother. Then riding was in my blood. Lol. You know the gal on the food channel... red long hair Drummon ranch i think. Not so glam but I was around that. Took me tell I was 20 to cook venison where it wasn't tough or dry. Plus didnt hv it often tell I was 18. My bf and his dad hunted every yr. Or accidentally killed it with the car and you lived. Lol.. Once we moved back to Vegas, I never saw it tell then. The point is, if you can get raw milk cheaper, not separated from its fats, grass fed, yum. Raw and pasteurize 2 dif tastes. However, its easy to do it as well.
