I'm holding this blade in my hand right now. The video doesn't show just how awesome it really is. It looks amazing in the video, but IRL, it is easily 5 to 10 times more beautiful. I got this for my wife for our 17th anniversary. If you are married and didn't know that the 17th anniversary is the Damascus Steel anniversary then you are a bad husband. 1st is paper, 17th is Damascus Steel, 60th is Diamond, and the rest don't matter. Or, maybe I just made that up whole 17th thing up so I could give my wife a cool dagger. ;) If your personal finances ever work out such that you have extra money lying around and Mr. Tyrell has something for sale, BUY IT. You won't regret it. I have 0% buyer's remorse. I'd buy another one of these in a heartbeat. Also, blood wipes right off this thing. Don't play with sharp things when you aren't paying 100% attention to the sharp thing. You'll cut yourself, and it's embarrassing. This thing is STUPID sharp!
While I've always enjoyed Damascus pattern blades, I've always thought they where just random patterns that didn't have any thought to them. This is absolutely incredible. I have never been more happy to be proven wrong before
Damn, you'd make a better teacher than 99% of all the teachers I ever had. I never forged anything, but all you say makes sense, even if my practical abilities are probably not up for the task, I still get the concept of everything. Amazing job, amazing result!!!
I can't believe you guys are Journeymen! The beautiful and functional pieces of art you create are masterpieces! Can't wait to see them and you at Blade Show Atlanta.
Wow! That turned out amazing. Y'all both did a terrific job on this knife. My jaw dropped when i saw the final result. Keep up the good work, man, and best of luck to ya.
I've never seen such a cool transition between patterns. That's a TON of work and attention to detail, in order to keep everything concentric and symmetrical over such a long billet. And to add to the complexity, it's a collaboration between to smiths. Beautiful piece, guys!
dont know of anyone has ever mentioned it .. but i enjoy the little graphic showing the layers and how they will be formed ... makes it easier to visualize the outcome
WTAF??!!? I think someone may have said this already, but how are you still a journeyman? That is easily as skillfully done as anything I've seen Kyle Royer do. Ok, now that I've finished the video; that is THE CRAZIEST forge welding i have seen up to this point in the time I've spent watching forge videos. Seriously, hands down the best work I've seen.
That is gorgeous. You know, with that yellow handle and blacked/blued guard and pommel, it would look amazing with a little gold wire inlay in the guard and pommel.
Damn! What a stunning piece! Excellent work Denis. I’ve decided this winter to only focus on upgrading my skill set and making technical builds. Focusing on integral guards and guarded blades.
That is so dang cool!! I seriously love the way that demascus turned out. You should do some tests with making the demascus water part look more wibbly wobbly like the suns rise's reflection in water.
You are an inspiration! I love watching your videos, they're really informative and the peices you make are quite stunning. A Journeyman indeed! With work like this it can't/won't be long before you're completeing your masters.
Glad you made a dagger out of that billet, the sun got a bit wobbly on the way out but still looks alright. The pattern you got with the sawteeth all the way down the centre though I think is something you might want to look into making another style similar to it as its really quite distinctive. I think that part in particular is probably my favourite part of it.
I wish more blacksmith channels included those graphics of how the pattern is being changed, it's very interesting to see.
Everyone seems to like the graphics so I keep doing them. 👍🏻. Thanks for watching
