Well been asking asking for almost 10 years now for Connor Macleod's Katana from the original Highlander movie. I got cancer and odds of it getting done before I croak so here's another that might be easier lol, Conan's father sword or the Atlantean sword from the Original Conan movie. Love that you guys are back, been following you two since man at arms
@@ThatWorks You did? I tried to find any word about what happened with Ilya a couple weeks ago and couldn't find _anything,_ he had just vanished without a trace with no official acknowledgement of that of any kind
I knew he was alive. He has an Instagram he posts on and he posts on r/swords sometimes too. I just thought he had decided to stop making TH-cam content. Great to see him again, and you as well Matt!
@ it was hard to say any more then I did. I told everyone that he got his own shop and was setting it up. That period is done and I've moved on to my own shop as well. We work together at his shop a few days a week and film as often as we can. It all worked out!
I'm the English voice actor for Panda and Maharaga in JJK. I've been watching you guys for years. Crazy to see you talking about my show on your show!! 🖤✌🏽🐼
@@ThatWorks If you want a ridiculous challenge... there's the Tholian Crystal Sword in Star Trek Online.... it's made of alloys with colors I've never seen IRL and has a glowing crystal embedded in the spine. :D or for something the might actually be doable IRL the Sword of the Winter Constellations. That's something from Star Trek: Lower Decks. It's just a decorative one handed sword.
@ yes. My thought was make one and restore one. Compared and what changes you’d make on your new custom one that makes it a better tool for you. Also a chance to do some fun chase and repose (sp?j work
I just wanted to let you guys know how you guys have influenced me! So I started training then competed then taught Japanese and Korean martial arts since about 1984. About 2010 I started putting a simple forge together as I wanted to make Japanese blades. I didn’t have much luck. About 3 years ago I started again after watching you guys. Although I still have simple tools , I have made many Tanto , 3 Katana, 1 tachi and 1 yari . I am very proud of them and have had many people that know about more modern Japanese style swords have commented positively on them. Not to brag and not close to your level but they are nice and I owe so much of that to you and we have never even spoken lol. Go figure!! Thank you Both so much!! Glad your back!!
"I sense something. I presence I've not felt since . . . " Seriously, glad to see a new video on the channel. And Ilya even showed up! Here's hoping this is a sign of more things to come. 🥳
Inverted Spear of Heaven next???? it would be really cool to see you guys forge its original shape then break off a piece and resharpen it like it most likely would've
I'm usually not a fan of unfinished texturing like that, but on this piece it looks AMAZING! Especially with how it flows into the pattern weld of the edge! And the artistry of that pommel! Fantastic!
Heh heh, that would be a challenge to make a blade with seriously broken edges. Without destroying that is! I think it would be just as fun making Ichigo's sword, Zangetsu (and extremely expensive). It's first form was boring since is was inherited so to speak, but it's second form was an insanely huge chef's knife. Who would you get to swing it? Lou Ferrigno? Arnold Schwarzenegger? LOL
The sword's texture gave it a character and it was oozing. I just wish the handguard is more feathery(like dusters but fluffy) and has some grey feathers for more pronounce volume. Otherwise great great work
@ThatWorks I love the theme blades you've done. Although the particular blade I want to see done seems...overly intricate (The Zelda 2 box art dagger). I also like the LotR/Hobbit, Witcher, manga/anime, etc weapons. I prefer fantasy blades, as the translation from page to real object is always interesting.
Whether you guys upload frequently or take time to do so, it'll always be good to have you guys back and see what new projects you've all been working on.
I'm excited to see you back at it. It is always thrilling to see an artist's conception brought to life by talented craftsmen, the fact that you used traditional methods makes this project even better. Thank you both for the hard work and bringing us this content.
Love seeing Ilya in this video! Watching the work is great but the educational background, delivered as only Ilya can, makes the build that much more fascinating. The explanations, explaining both the build as it progresses and the history of the project and/or process, are why I don't watch only ASMR channels on similar projects.
Great to see you guys back. Hopefully you're all doing well. The sword turned out beautiful, just like you'd expect from the GOAT's of sword blacksmithing.
I love your work. It is incredibly beautiful, and the level of craftsmanship is way beyond top-notch. I love how you explain why you do something and it is just all amazing. Keep working hard!
WOOOOO! I've missed these guys. It's always so fascinating to watch and their explanations on techniques, metallurgy, history, and culture make these videos the best!
I read about katana blades being made from several pieces, but this is the first time I have seen it done the way it was described. It's been a while since I've seen a video showing the process- missed it. I've never seen the manga or the anime, but the sword looks savage! This video was good for my soul- thanks for posting!!

Split layer (3 and half) for a Split Katana, epic
right? Was wondering if anyone picked up on that
Kind of incredible to see how much Matt has grown as an artist and a craftsman over this channel's lifetime. Big kudos.

That thing's badass man!
The pommel looks like the inner retractable mouth from the Alien! That definitely adds some terror to the build.
