      No worries, glad you enjoyed. You bet! I'm currently painting the deluxe monuments etc. If we upload another playthrough it'll definitely be with those minis!

    Nice to see some fellow Aussies reviewing games I also just played my first game of Ankh last week :D

      Thanks mate! The reception we've had has been astounding. :) Really glad we made the decision to start!
      How did you find your first game, and with how many players? We just got done with a 5p game and boy oh boy was it chaotic!

      @@BoardDownUnder We found it great, we played with 4, Ra, Isis, Anubis and Sobek It was super chaotic but ended up being really close in the end game especially with some of those level 3 ankh powers it allowed the merged god in last place to get within 2 devotion points of the winner, i think Blood Rage is still my fave of the trilogy but Ankh is extremely solid :)

      @sirremicable I don't know how I missed this response, so apologies for the delay! Sounds like a fun time and some strong gods! How'd the Sobek player go? If you've seen our ToW playthrough we found him to be pretty dominant, but that was a 2 players. Haven't had a chance to play him in a bigger game yet!

      @@BoardDownUnder i was playing sobek and came in second. Ra won and the merges isis anubis came third with 4 points between first and last. So it was pretty darn close. I parked my temple attuned sobek on a water space between two temples so he got to effect both battles it was really effective then used his power to shrink regions down to make them easier to manage.

      @sirremicable Must have been intense at the end! That Sobek positioning is awesome though. He's definitely one of my favorite gods. Good stuff mate, glad to hear you had fun with it. Would be interested to know after a few more plays whether you still prefer Blood Rage or not

    How did you find it compared to Blood Rage?

    • @BoardDownUnder
      @BoardDownUnder  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hey mate! Only played this twice so far, but I will say I enjoy both games, and both seem to play quite different for area control.
      Some key things this has that BR doesn't:
      - Control points within each region, so not only are you trying to control a region, you are also trying to control monuments within.
      - It has no drafting which imo is one of BRs best aspects. Each player uses the same 7 cards for battling, but this actually works really well and feels quite diverse.
      - There is a little bit of "blind bidding" in the form of 1 battle card, which can be quite impactful.
      - the monsters you recruit here are less about brute strength and more about impacting the board in some other way.
      - there is a really interesting "come back". Mechanic in the form of God merging. Only played with it once so hard to tell if I like it (it was crazy strong in our 3 player game). But good or bad it's a super interesting mechanic!
      *Edit completely forgot there is also a scenario book that alters the setup and adds additional rules, which can add a lot more variance to the game.
      Overall I am really enjoying this game but too early to truly compare! Hope that helps :)

    Just started a game with my family, I’m really enjoying it but is seems like the early game can have more long term consequences than you’d think, my brother & I invested heavily in locking down monuments early on and are now stomping our parents, the trick is whether the 2 of us will be able to get out of the red from this next conflict round

    • @BoardDownUnder
      @BoardDownUnder  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like a good experience to be had by all (exceptaybe your parents ahaha). No but seriously sounds like you're having fun with it. Have you played much more?

      @@BoardDownUnder yea we finished that game, played another with just my brother & Dad and then another with 4 of my friends. It was really fun and I think it is a really great game. I’ve played Osiris, Ra & Isis and was able to enjoy each of their unique playstyles. (Also I won all 3 of those games, not a completely new trend but the games of Ankh were quite a bit closer than most)

    I can't wait to get my copy to the table. Rising Sun doesn't actually have card drafting but it has a purchasing mechanism in the training mandate. It might be being pedantic in some views but it is significantly enough difference that it matters. Picking the mandates isn't exactly a drafting mechanism either.

    • @BoardDownUnder
      @BoardDownUnder  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for clarifying this. It had been a while since I'd got my copy of RS to the table and as you can tell I was getting muddled how the card play in it actually worked! I shouldn't have raised the point to begin with when I wasn't sure, so certainly a good callout.
      I've been really enjoying Ankh so fingers crossed you get your copy soon and get to give it a crack!

      @@BoardDownUnder yeah I recieved mine a couple weeks ago, I'm a norther neighbour so to speak up in Queensland. I've just not had a chance to get it to the table yet. I had Blood Rage for over a year before I got to try it out recently too lol. I do really enjoy the series as a whole. I like how they are three different ways to deal with a handful of the same and similar core mechanics and all give you big monsters to play with.
      So far I like Rising Sun maybe a tad more the Blood Rage because of the same trickery that didn't mesh for you (I have a few friends who feel the same) but I also found some fun combos in Blood Rage that do similar trickery. I made a combo where I lost or tied in battle intentionally so I could replace one guy with two essentially for free.

      @@TheProteanGeek Nicer weather up there! I understand the struggle to get things to the table though. Something we are trying to make a conscious effort to do more of, but we have some shrink wrap of shame games stuff in the collection. ;)
      Haha, I'm with you in that I enjoy all these games. I think Eric has done a fantastic job with designing them, and making each one feel so different, yet follow a similar path. It's pretty insane to think how his mind must work. :) Not sure which I like the best. Miss and I have it on our "soon to do" list to do a comparison video. We've played a little bit of Blood Rage, and a bunch of Ankh recently, but need to dust of Rising Sun again to refresh ourselves what we liked / didn't like about it before we chalk it all up though!
      Would love to hear what you think of Ankh once you give it a whirl. Swing back and comment if you remember :D

      Thanks for the feedback, this was our first impressions video, recorded after our first play through, so it wasn't intended to be a review. We didn't want to do a review after only one play through as we hadn't had enough exposure to the game to review it, but we'll try to be more clear next time
