Great explanation! Very clear. Some minor minor additions: Tea track: The tea leader can potentially place a clerk here to block the spot for another player, it's just when their clerk resolves that nothing happens. Building + Warehouse: Be sure to note that when you build a building you first must use the resources that are in the warehouse if any, you can't leave those in there for later (for whatever weird reason you'd want to) Barracks: Extra note regarding simultaneous rule. When you can recruit multiple soldiers (because you have multiple clerks there or have played the raise banners card), you recruit them all at once! So if you have any bonus regarding recruiting, you only get this bonus once during the entire recruitment! Reclaiming command cards: When you reclaim the cards and have previously used a Betrayal card, the betrayal card won't be reclaimed (as stated on the card), but it will still grant you 2 honor.
Thank you for these additions! All very good points. We actually recorded the warehouse details but somehow the clip didn't make it into the video 🤦 Oops! Thank you for the callouts!
"Tea track: The tea leader can potentially place a clerk here to block the spot for another player, it's just when their clerk resolves that nothing happens." The tea track determines playing order. So if the leader leaves there a clerc, and one other player leave there a clerc, first we resolve the leader clerc - so nothing happens because he is already on top. Then we resolve other clerc and that player go one level up. So leaving the clerc on a tea track, as a leader, makes you sure you will be at least second, not third or 4th.
@Gerbie: The betrayal card gives you the 2VP only when you decide not to claim your cards. You made it sound as if you'd get both (claim cards + get 2VP for betrayal).
having the 2 of you doing the explanation really helps a lot. i also like and noticed when one is talking, the other is looking at them, and that helps me to focus on what that person is saying better than the normal 'both persons stare into the camera' and now 2 ppl are looking at me lol
Thanks for the compliment, Angelo! We decided to hold off doing this as Awaken Realms is working on a tutorial video of their own, which may very well cover the expansion content. Admittedly we thought it would be out by now though..
You both have nice voices and talk camly and clearly! :) I just came from a 72 min video about this game (I lasted 4 mins) where a woman was talking in the most annoying way she could think of, like she was in character (?). Keep it up, guys! :)
@@BoardDownUnder Hey guys, i think (after finally playing the game) i found a couple of other rule"benders": The Clerks do not go back to the board after activation but the player pool, i believe. Also, for the 1st play i found it confusing that the covered honoour symbols on the hoard cards were not mentioned as further bonus when covered. After all, covering the vital spots can be as rewarding as the card itself. What do you think?
@20:58, that seems incorrect, returning clerks to the embassy space means players need to buy them again, I think maybe the visual clip was misplaced. Great video by the way, really helpful.
Hi, found your channel through this video (looking forward to cracking open my copy of The Great Wall). I love the tone and pace of your videos, the ones I've watched anyway, and the mix of close up and distance shots is great. The only suggestion I have is do more videos about the games I have in my collection please 😉
No worries, and thank you! We'd like to create the other how tos, but I believe Awaken Realms is creating an official video which might cover it, so there wouldn't be a point in us doing it as well. :) They should be releasing there's any day now so we'll wait and see if there's anything additional we can provide
Excellent video thanks a lot. Nice work 😊 I have only one question if you could help me. Where are the clerks go after activate locations? Back to my private pool (available for instant use )or at clerk space like set up and i must take back again before i can reuse them?
Appreciate the video. Although, you missed some scoring details for defeating Horde cards. Specifically, players with at least one soldier on the defeated horde card get 2 honor. Also, players with archers in firing positions for the wall section get 2 honor per Archer. I was wondering why a player would opt to draft an Archer and this would make sense as to why.
Really well done. Just one small suggestion. It might be best to focus in on one single person if that person is going to speak for an extended period of time. It's a little distracting and awkward when the other person is silently nodding to the side for long soliloquies. Maybe consider having the non speaking person out of frame for the majority of the other persons speaking portion. The good news is that the most important part is the information, which in my opinion, is being presented just about as well as anyone is currently doing on TH-cam....SUBSCRIBED!!
Thanks for the video, the rulebook is not the greatest. You were clear and very structured in your explanations. I just have one question regarding the Embassy, when you say that each clerk is activated individually does that mean that if a player has multiple clerks at the embassy he can resolve them all (one after the other) before the next player or that player resolves his first clerk then waits for other players to resolve their first clerk and finally proceedes activating his 2nd?
Great video, very well explained! I was about to sell the game as I found the rules too overwhelming, but after watching this I think I'll give it a try 😁 May I ask where are your accents from? As a French person all I can tell is that it's not from the US Thanks for this very helpful video 👍🏼
Thank you so much for the feedback. Glad it helped! Honestly the game still had some confusion, particularly in how / when some of the advisor work. It is a fun game, but it's missed the mark in being clear and concise unfortunately! We are from "Down Under" where the kangas roo and the didgeris doo. Australia! :)
Quick Question about Advanced Activation...During AA, does every player in that area activate or only the player using the AA ability and collect the resources? Do you take your clerks back and get to reuse them on subsequent command cards or are they gone for that year? Can a normal activation occur on in this area afterward, eg. if there are additional clerks available to place there after the AA?
Hey Jeff. Sorry for the late reply - my understanding is that this works as you said. Every player in that space activates, as per a usual activation, and yes all involved clerks are returned to their pools. I believe a normal activation could occur in that area if somehow clerks remain (IE from an advisor ability), but most the time that space will be empty from the AA. :) Hope that helps (and that we're right, haha)
If you need to take a shame token and there's no free card/soldier to take it, lose 5 honor immediately and remove the shame token from the game (back to the box). Sorry for the confusion, hope that helps!
@@BoardDownUnder no need to apologise. Great video. This was the only thing that I wasnt sure about. Thank you for the clarification. The rule book is messy. This is the best explanation video on TH-cam. Thank you
At 21 min you said that when you return clerks they go to the available pool at the bottom of the board but I thought they were to your personal pool off the board to be used later. Is that not right?
Yeah, it is a small mistake :) Clerks on the bottom of the board, are those which you can buy and add to your pool :) After activation of a location clerks back to your pool
Thanks for highlighting this! Yes, this is a mistake in the video, sorry! They return to your pool off of the board. I'll drop this into the corrections caption
Sorry for making this inaccessible to you! I've found music helps me engage more - but I can definitely appreciate it'll have the opposite affect for others. I'll try to take this on board and see if I can find a middle ground going forward, perhaps with the music not so loud or only in certain areas. Perhaps I just shouldn't add any at all! Thank you for the feedback though, and again, very sorry!
I've played 2 games. It was both times a confusing non-game. You build the wall and you get some soldiers and you try to get resources. You tick up some honour and after a handful of turns you are done?? Where is the game? The command cards seem really random as well, any card seems good.
Great explanation! Very clear.

My fav Great Wall How to Play. You two make a great pair. It is subtle but the back and forth keeps a long HtP from becoming a blur.
Would love to see a how to play video on the expansions. There is no other video on TH-cam and you guys explain things so well.

You're welcome. Thanks for the kind words!
Hey, I read the rulebook, thought I understood, but was happy to realize some corrections from your video. Thanks for the clarifications!
Bravo! Best tutorial on TH-cam for The Great Wall. Please make a tutorial for the expansion The Great Wall: Black Powder. Thanks again.
Glad to see you guys uploaded your (corrected?) video again - been looking forward to it. Thanks guys! 😃
Thanks! Yes we had to fix a few rule errors, and then had issues with the retake! It's been an interesting 24 hours, haha 😂 Hope you enjoy it!
