What if NAPOLEON Became US PRESIDENT? Animated Alternate History

- Napoleon was one of the most influential men in history, but after his defeat at Waterloo, he was relegated to die on St. Helena. Napoleon expected to be given asylum and escape to the US so today I explore what would’ve happened if Napoleon escaped the British and went the the United States. After settling, he eventually worked his way up to become the president.

The only thing too far fetched for me is Napoleon retiring after just two terms.
He would be almost 80 but he probably would want to stay in power true
@@Videntis.History What if a Nubian Crusader State was established in Egypt?
Don't forget FDR was elected 4 times.
The people would probably try and depose him, Washington made it customary for only 2 terms
@@titanlord9267So the people that voted for Napoleon's third term would depose him?
I’d absolutely LOVE a part 2 where you look at both of the posabilties one where Napoleon II stays in the USA and one where he returns to France bringing the Napoleon era back to Europe
I love how you integrated both of them in to American politics and how they embrace the expansionist desires the impact of this scintillating would be astonishing not just for America but the whole world
same
same
Whoops
I was using voice to text and I thought it put scenario but it put “scintillating” a word I’ve never seen or heard in my life lol
I WANT PART 2 !!!
I’d like the same thing to be made and also maybe split the US scenario in two, one in which Napoleon II stays in the military, one in which gets involved with politics. even though if he ends up being only half as capable as a father, he can be a military and political leader at the same time. Generally I see his return to France as the less likely scenario, and would only be plausible had he failed in the US somehow. The US in this scenario is much more powerful than in our timeline and it is more stable than France. Remember the first attempt of Napoleon III to involve himself in French politics failed. At the same time who knows what the existence of actual Napoleons in politics of a different country at the time of 1848 election would bring, remember that successful election of Napoleon III was to a large part due to the recognition of his name and sentiment that memories of republic/empire under his rule brought after becoming disillusioned by bourbon restoration and july monarchy. It was easy for a wide political spectrum to just insert in bonapartism anything they wanted to, because bonapartism was essentially dead in 1815-1848 as a political force in power, but in this timeline it is not. It could make bonapartism in france less popular since certain political groups wouldnt be happy what napoleons were doing in America and would think it’d get replicated in France, or make bonapartism more popular seeing how America is well-run under napoleon. Who knows. But regardless, napoleon ii who in this video already has a successful military and diplomatic/political career would not want to give it up and enter uncertain waters of french politics. He could end up like his cousin and successfully establishing the second empire, maybe serve one term as a president and leave without taking power like him, maybe he would fail, who knows. Also I think it would be likely that napoleon iii instead of being in england would be invited to the US, possibly being involved in politics there too. That would make lots of changes in French history, no napoleon iii coup, no fall of the second republic, maybe different franco-prussian war than in our timeline, maybe france would not be on her fifth republic now
I'm french... and honestly, this was one of if not the best alternative scenario I have ever seen.
Not only did the graphical work and quality made it incredibly engaging as a video, but the aspects you highlighted made it realistic and extremely satisfying for me to watch as an historical scenario.
I know you want your channel to grow, so you need likes and views, but I can't express how much I NEED a sequel to this video.
And, if I may ask, maybe a deep dive in the interactions between French and English cultures due to the new dynamic of French-led anglophone country might be very interesting. Would America become bilingual ? And what about the restrictions on usage of French that were implanted after the Louisiana purchase ? Will they endure ? Or will french finally take over America and make it l'Empire Divin des Amériques and create the good ending for our world ?
But I digress, thanks for your work, and may we see someday a follow-up on this historical masterpiece.
Thanks so much, it’s doing really good so if it gets the like goal I will make part 2
I’m an American and I 100% agree with this
🇺🇸❤️🇫🇷
I think there are certain topics in this video that didn't get covered that would have had to happen. 1st the British, and Boubons absolutely would have tried to poison or assassinate Napoleon and his son. Failed attempts would have made Napoleon even more popular and the British more angry with failures. I suspect the British would have built up their military in Canada much heavier in this timeline. At same time to win Canada you would have had to take Halifax which is Canada's most important naval port and it's got a fort that would be extremely difficult to take. At same time I think French immigration would have been higher in this timeline with many in France coming to America those who adored Napoleon.
@@Videntis.Historymy disappointement knows no bounds x)
Even though the likes weren't high enough, I sincerely hope you'll make a follow up to this video.
If you’re not afraid of massive swarms of butterflies, you could have Carlo Bonaparte exiled to America, resulting Napoleon being born in the 13 colonies and thus eligible.
Oh that’s an interesting scenario
A unified trilingual US could very easily become the dominant political and economic center much earlier than in our timeline
Well not fully cause western Canada doesnt have too many people abd alot of them only speak english
@@Frazier16 in reality, sure. But in the timeline here, he's presented us with with 3 major linguistic groups that have Catholicism as a unifying point. If That version of the US were to remain close to France, it could easily be assumed that they'd also have a closer - maybe friendlier- relationship with Spain...certainly a more direct interest in Central American affairs. A permanent political riff with Britain would likely dampen further immigration from the UK, and being more welcoming to French and Spanish immigration.
It is more likely English and Spanish would just merge into its own language (American) as what happened between Sicilian and Arabic leading to the Maltese language. What about French? English is by vocabulary already sort of a French Dialect. If you merge with Spanish it would have so many more similarities with French that would be unnecessary to incorporate it.
@@sagittariusa7662 There'd be a ton of cross over, naturally. But a century and a half, with the industrialism and globalism, shouldn't be enough to merge them completely...though there would probably be very clear distinctions from the American version and their origin nations.
@@johnnyinsac Why would America have a better relationship with Spain? The leader of America is the guy who invaded and occupied the homeland of Spain, waging a war so brutal that the term "guerrilla warfare" was coined to describe it.
Maybe the Midwest would end up being home to thousands of French settlers in this timeline
So...good cheese?
Deep dish… baguettes?
Best Québec endings of all Times
I just want to point out that Napoleon actually proposed to be sent to Washington after his defeat at Waterloo but was denied by the Coalition since they wanted him out of reach of any power
Hence why your scenario could've actually happened if the Coalition decided to be kind to him again
Btw excellent video, you won one sub and one like ;D
I just think it would be far more likely the U.S. government makes an acception by allowing Napoleon to run for president instead legally altering the constitution. I mean, if the Supreme Court is on Napoleon's side they can say it's constitutional for him to run for president..
Napoleon actually had the chance to escape to the USA after he lost his army at Waterloo he was ready to embark a ship but though it wasn't worth the risk of getting caught on sea by the Royal navy with no way to defend effectively.
It's funny to see this video because today I learnt that Napoléon I grand-nephew - the grand-son of his brother - founded the FBI.
Wait that’s actually such an interesting fact oml
Also napoleons older brother, Joseph Bonaparte, King of Naples and King of Spain, moved to america after the wars. He was offered to be Emperor of Mexico but declined. He also claimed to have seen a monster called the Jersey Devil in 1820 while hunting....
There’s actually a story that I know called “The Rebellion Burns Bright” that has Napoleon become President. It takes a while to get there, but in my opinion it is immensely worth it. One of the best books I’ve ever read.
I think Napoleon II would have spent so much time in America that he would identify more as an American than as French or if the people of France regarded him more as an American than as the heir to his father Napoleon I.
his position in the us would be pretty much guaranteed. it wouldnt be in france
Yeah plus he would have adapted to American culture and understand American issues more
Napoleon wouldve called US New France
Napoleon II dream would be to avenge his father and defeat the British and French monarchy so he could claim back his Imperial throne in France too.
Napoleon II would most likely help Napoleon III in France in future conflicts like the franco-prussian war
Id love to see America become the americas
Most unbiased TH-cam comment
Yeah
Or at least move the border to the Darién Gap where it should had been at.
@wolfwarrior9451 I literally have America in my name, and my pfp. What did you expect?
The United States of the Americas.
It should be noted that despite Mexico being in the south, the Mexican mainland was very abolitionist at the time. I’d be curious to know what the civil war would look like at the time. Would the Mexican states ally themselves with the north to fight the institution of slavery, or take advantage of the war to fight for independence
It's well possible slavery is outlawed without a large scale conflict, or it's put down swiftly by the contributions of the rest of the continent. Free States would have an overwhelming majority in both houses, any "Compromises" being pretty much dead on that basis. If it even happens i'd think it likely that some of the more mixed-opinion states like Texas (which had it's governor overthrown to secure secession) might not have even joined, or would be swiftly put down by Federal forces marching north from Mexico. You could have, within the first year, the western theater "secured" and even larger forces bearing down in the east.
I think mexico would originally join the gop. But then joins the dems some years later due to fitting in with the souths issues, like farming
Honestly I'd say staying in Americas makes more sense, as in this timeline he's kind of a poster boy for the American ideal, a part French, part Austrian, that immigrated to the USA and grew in prominence. Plus one would assume by now he's likely married an American or Canadian.
You should really do "What if the German Empire was formed in 1849" I think it would be a great video.
I wholeheartedly agree with this suggestion.
@@Toumahitoedits glad someone else can agree it would be very interesting seeing a constitutional monarchy germany in 1849
@@GoofySillyGuy Its good we have the same interest about Germany. I would love it to have a capable and good leadership.
@@Toumahitoedits wilhelm the second was so cocky and arrogant maybe if he wasnt stuff wouldve gone a bit better for germany but idk
Amazing work as usual Videntis! My vot is for Napoleon II to stay in the US, so that his cousin Napoleon III can take the french throne and thus the 2 of them be close allies!
And suggestion: What if Napoleon II survives and he was the one to take power in france in 1848, eventually crowning himself emperor in 1852?
I agree with this scenario. It would be interesting to see how these developments would play into Bismarck's plans.
@@NavyVet9702Or also how it will factor in Garibaldi and Italian unification.
Anglo-French rapprochement would be out of the window for starters, as Napoleon II would be more ambitious and competent than his cousin. At the same time I don't see Bismarck being friendly with what he'd see as a greater threat to German unification. So most likely it'll be an Anglo-Prussian alliance against a Franco-Austrian one. There will be a possibility of World War I happening 30-40 years sooner.
One of the best Quebecs endings of all time man! 🇨🇵🇨🇵🇨🇵🇨🇵🇨🇵
Britain was always worried about some land power uniting Europe against it. However, an earlier awakening of the US as a superpower in alliance with France would turn that on its head.
Then they have to decide contain the USA or maintain the balance of Europe.
A little bit of an optimistic scenario tbh. Given US views on Native Americans, and his political base in the south, it seems doubtful that he would be able to support the Native Americans like the Seminoles. The Panic of 1837 also had many causes behind it, and a lack of arable land to expand to wasn’t really among them.
Given Napoleon’s action as president, I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a Northern-led secessionist movement. We have a man, who called himself a revolutionary until he installed himself as Emperor and betrayed French Republicanism, being uplifted by the Southern Democrats as a beacon against tyranny by the Southern Democrats, while massively centralizing power under himself and away from the states and the other two branches of government. Antagonized the Protestant faiths while supporting the Catholic Church which held official views against Republicanism. Rejected annexing Canada for fear of upsetting the balance of power, but immediately annexed the entirety of Mexico, thus ensuring that the South would remain the dominant power in the US going forward.
Add to that the Northern Elite that would be pissed by how thoroughly wrecked their business interests with the UK were and thus have reason to slander Napoleon and use all the ammunition available in the war of public opinion. It seems likely that despite Napoleon’s intentions to build a strong united America, he would instead produce a more divided America than in our timeline, and a potential split between North and South seems plausible. With all the disastrous implications for continued existence of slavery that entails.
Probably true, but if I make a part it will explored more
These videos are so high quality. I mean you need to keep working hard, and I promise, with this dedication, quality and ideas you will succeed greatly. I mean I love your channel.❤
I've had this one scenario in my head for a while😅 glad someone made a video of it
Considering how much Napoleon the 2nd got attached to Austria, I feel a similar thing would happen with America. Notably considering his fathers power base in the south, and Napoleon the 2nd growing up in America in this timeline he may be more pro slavery then his father which could have all sorts of implications for his political career, or at the very least soft on the issue like his father which may help see a gradual detransition of slavery instead of rapid emancipation similar to Latin Americas slow removal of slavery through freedom of the womb laws.
Amazing and wild video. I love it. I think Napoleon II would stay in America, might even try to become an American Emperor.
Now that’s an interesting timeline
That would be cool!
What a unique idea! I’d love to see a part two, I don’t think I’d ever get the chance to see anything like this anywhere else. Keep it up!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@Videntis.Historywhat was the music that you used throughout the video accentuated the scenes and caught my ear very much and I would like to know which they were
this is such an interesting scenario, i’d think napoleon II would stay in america because he grew up there, but if napoleon III became french emperor…
i wonder how ww1 would turn out, usa, france and probably austria vs britain, prussia, and russia. though, i wonder about the loyalties of spain and maybe the ottomans and japan if they get involved. this scenario needs a part 2
France, Austria, USA vs Britain, Prussia/Germany, and Russia. I very much would like to see this scenario. 😎👍
Do make more of this, this was so much fun.
I support Napoleon II staying in the US. A strong USA is what we need in this alternate history.
I really liked how Canada became an independent French-speaking nation made up of French Canadians. I was hoping instead that this new Canada would help Mexico in their war against America since they are both Catholic and Latin nations. They would also share some cultural similarities just like how France and Spain do. We could've seen what is today the West coast US become a New Andorra in the New World.
Please do a part 2 or 3, maybe show both scenarios
I never knew that this would be my favorite timeline!
Please do part two. I would love this continued.
that would be so cool
Napoleon : funding the army.
19th century american congressmen : WE SHALL NOT FUND THE ARMY, THE STATE MILITIA IS ALREADY ENOUGH FOR THE NATION DEFENCE.
The full annexation of Mexico was seen as an extreme option and opposed by a lot. I think you may have been better off by saying napoleon used his power and decided it by convincing a majority of people.
Edit: but either way a fun video to watch.
It’s funny I was thinking about this for quite a while
With exception to the transfer of royalty, are there any notable examples of a leader of one nation moving to another independent nation and becoming their leader?
Keep Napoleon II in America, leave Europe alone, besides he gets a better life here but if he is anything like his father,he would be very Ambitious so i have to accept that he would return to France
I think he would come to view himself as more american than french. He had lived there most of his life. He served the usa. And would most likely have had a wife and kids at this point
Keep in mind they declared war on Napoleon himself
The Good Timeline
PLS MAKE what if the second mexican empire survived!!
Very cool video but I honestly doubt that Napoleon would simply leave after his two terms... his main flaw was always wanting more.
Though later in his life, when age took its toll, he was far wiser and understood the wrong in his actions. He deeply regretted his mistakes and reflected on what he should have done. So not too far fetched in my honest opinion.
i just found your channel after watching vlogging through history and i have to say i love alternative videos keep the good work!

Can you please do a video on what if the Union of South Africa succeeded?
You should make one where Spain and England switch colonies or Portugal and France or France and Germany switch colonies
This is excellent. Jackson🤝Napoleon
Would love a part 2, maybe Napoleon III still rises in France and invades Mexico, this time successfully installing Maximillian on the throne leading to an alliance between USA, France, Mexico, and Austria-Hungary vs Britain, Prussia/Germany, and Russia.
If this is too crazy that’s fine.
Oh you annexed Mexico, never mind.
I think Napoleon II should stay in America, he could guide the nation to greatness and ally his cousin in France to counter Britain.
I wonder if french influence and warmer attitude towards catholic immigrants would create a wider divergence beetween British English and american English and if it would largely affect american culture
What an amazing video and a unique scenario thank you for the amazing quality content

Nobody talking how this is like "if everything went perfect for USA"
I think Napoleon II would stay in the US by where this alternate history ends he’d have lived more than half his life in the US, that would undoubtedly have changed him and most likely he’d have come to love his new adopted home.
Fun fact, Napoleons Great Nephew did actually become Attorney General of the US during the Roosevelt Administration.
What if the Roman Republic (1849-1850, and was ruled as a triarchy of three men). Was able to survive longer and unite Italy instead of the House of Savoy? Essentially what if Mazzini united Italy?

I think realistically Napoleon the Second would stay in America, but Napoleon the Second could go back to France to fulfil his father’s legacy

I think that Napoleon II wouldnt take over america of France, Instead I'd see him becoming mperor of Mexico either in Texas war in Napoleon III invasion, which would be helped by this america.
Also I don't think napoleon would be be given any important positions, at least not in this way given he's literally Napoleon. Instead he'd probably be given some honorary tiltes but would heavily depend on sheer public support in the south and his skills in politics. The Bonaparte's would definetly form a very powerfull faction in american politics and maybe even become president from that but not with the help of any pre existing factions. I also dont think hed invade canada but
Mexico had lots of Napoleonic fans, many generals respected him and had portraits of him in their houses. Maybe in this timeline he could ask them to peacefully join since Mexican sentiment was very pro-Napoleon?
I would love to see if france won the 7 years war and how Europe would play out and if france would become the dominant power instead of the British because france won the 7 years war
I read an AH about Napoleon's family fleeing corsica to America and he grew up there. It was awesome like this one.

You are closer to real history than you realize. Actually, Napoleon was on his way to St. Marys, GA when captured. He planned to create a plantation with no slaves. He planned to design new machinery for agriculture than would make slavery undesirable. He also planned to start a world-class university in Savannah, where he would be professor of mathematics and mechanical engineering. This information was actually statements made by Napoleon and printed by biographers in Europe.
Source? I’d like to read about that.
@@mateoparvex-switzer725 I don't have the info handy. This information was for a book that I wrote on Fort Caroline in 2012. My former cabin was hit by a tornado in 2017. LOL I know it is factual, but you will have to put together the pieces from French historical documents. Write your Google inquiries in French. See most Americans don't know that there was a French colony on the St. Marys and Satilla Rivers in Southeast Georgia. The original name of Waycross, GA was Tebeauville. So there was a reason for Napoleon to head there.
Much of this sounds like a reverse of the lore of Code Geass. Imagine an empire with liberal absolutism building strength across the oceans in the America's, then launching a global war of conquest on the monarchies of the world. That would be quite the series.
Code Geass' Britannia did conquer the United States of America in that timeline. lol
And now the United States of America conquering the world in this timeline would be hilarious.
Would be a good idea to see what would happen if the roles were reversed in Code Geass. Instead of UK, the USA went ham on the world and conquered Japan in Two Weeks I think?
@@ArmageddonEvilThe American Revolution failed because Jefferson betrayed the rebels (probably because of geass control), so they technically didn't defeat America because "America" wasn't a proper state. Agreed though, that it would be a hilarious timeline. Dick Cheney would either be a pacificist in comparison to other members of this new United States, or he could drop the mask and embrace his true imperialist heart.
@@lljkgktudjlrsmygilug They did lose their mainland of the British Isles in the timeline too. So I can see why they wanted to conquer the entire North America. A la, like the French or someone else in Europe, conquered the British Isles. But it's nice to think of a what-if about the Americans pulling a Britianna in Code Geass instead of the Holy Britannia Empire.
During the American civil war in this universe. It will still have CSA and the Union. CSA will be much bigger with some parts of northern Mexico. The Union will be way bigger. Smaller groups like Mexican independence groups will take over south of Mexico and will help to defeat the CSA with Union support.
Most likely CSA will be defeated and Mexico City and Southern Mexico will have independence.
Northern parts of Canada and cascadia will have larger French speaker majority while in northern Mexico English is taking over and French is also too.
America will be vastly bigger and it’s power being stronger than ever!
Edit: And I forgot USA will be the North American federation.
Gotta be honest: as a Mexican, I founded myself quite astonished how in this alternate timeline my country received the short end of the stick. But as an enthusiast of Napoleon's history and figure, it doesn't seem so bad. I'll be eagerly expecting part 2

If Napoleon ll stayed in America he could only be elected president in november 1848 at age 37. In december 1848 Louis Napoleon wins the French election and a very powerful alliance would be formed.
