YOUR HAIR GETS OILY FAST? YOU HAVE AN OILY SCALP? WASH EVERYDAY WITH SHAMPOO! HERE'S WHY: For those of you with oily scalps/hair that think shampooing their hair once a week/month/year would cause it to grease up less or over longer periods of time, here are some legitimate, research-backed, science-based facts: there is no special sensor in your skin cells that detects moisture from the outside and suddenly understands to produce less oil. Your sebaceous glands are being influenced by your hormone production internally and following their own genetic script for how much oil they would like to produce in a given time period, and no topical products (barring the rx's I addressed earlier) are going to suddenly influence them to respond by producing less oil. Deodorant does not stop us from sweating - it just masks the smell (please ignore the existence of antiperspirant for my analogy here). We reapply it every day, appreciating it, never questioning it. So why do we demonize and question the efficacy of surfactants in shampoo the same way? If you want to not smell bad, you apply deodorant. If you don't want food between your teeth, you floss. If you want your hair to not be oily, you wash it. It really is that simple. There is no trick out there that is going to reverse or significantly reduce oil production. I'm telling you this from personal experience and education. I understand wanting to stop it because it is very enviable to see others get away with not washing their hair for several days and still have it looking good. I understand that washing frequently is annoying and effortful. I understand very deeply there is an emotional aspect to having oily roots and feeling "dirty". Let me tell you personally. Oil is not gross. It is inconvenient, and sometimes uncomfortable, yes, but it's not implicitly better to have dry skin/scalp, which comes with its own whole set of issues. Sebum is produced to nourish the skin and protect it. Of course, we can absolutely help control it and reduce its appearance when our skin makes too much. But we can't wish it away or hope that by neglecting it, it'll quit. wash your hair if you don't want it to be oily. Shampooing often is not inherently wrong, nor will it damage your hair. The shampoo itself is not the devil and if you struggle with above-average sebum production, washing it away is really your only logical solution. Please try to see your oiliness as just part of who you are and not a medical condition or a severe flaw. enjoy taking care of your hair properly!
I agree with this wholeheartedly however your skin does have receptors that detect Trans Epidermal Water Loss (TEWL) this can be slowed by conditioner moisturising the scalp and slowing TEWL however, dont expect washing hair daily and not using conditioner or serum on the scalp to moisturise will leave your hair oil free. Your body will quickly expel sebum to slow TEWL to avoid a dry scalp but once again this is only when your skin barrier has no emollient on it.
I use a shampoo brush with warm water, rinse, then rinse with ice water. Every morning in the shower I do this routine. I NEVER look forward to the ice cold water rinse lol hate it everytime. Great video. Shampoo brush is great
If i use wax or putty most days can i wash my hair daily? I do have medium to thick hair that is a little dry sometimes but normally on days i don't wash my hair it loses all its volume
I have curly type 3c hair. I rinse my hair with water almost everyday. I live in the desert where the atmosphere is so dry! I wet my hair with water and message my scalp then use an emollient rich leave in conditioner layered with oil to lock in the water. I shampoo once and deep condition once a week.

thanks! i live in a tropical country where temperatures can get hot and humid and washing the head with water alleviates headaches. i had a bad case of migraine from not washing my hair but my hair was great though hahahah
Okay first of all water washing only only onlyyyy works when you are combing your hair alotttt. Like seriously sit down and keep combing for good 20 mins. Twice a day. It will make your scalp less greasy as all the oil will travel down to the roots and make your hair soft. The most oil your scalp produces is the near your neck area. Brush downward and thn upwards. And rubbing your scalp very throughly in shower.
Guys! I workout everyday and u get sweat! I only clean my hair with worm water like this guys said! Twice a week I wash my hair with free sulfate shampoo! And every night I do a little of oils! Is this right! Also I only use 100 cotton towels! Any help
No matter what I do I’ve tried all the methods. My hair always frizzes up or is very dry. Is it just genetics at this point? @salonguy please respond. I have very thick hair
I have thick and dry hair, its mostly very dry at the ends. And what helped me is to wash it less often. Train your hair to only be washed once a week. I always condition it after shampoo. And before washing it at all I do a warm oil mask on all my hair. Wait half an hour and then wash it. Also dont use hot water for hair. And always always tie your hair in a loose bun or braid when going to sleep.
heyy, I use Cantu curling cream everyday ( i cannot go the other day without it) should i shampoo everyday to get rid of the product from the day before or give it a water rinse off?
2 in 1 is good fornshort hair, once your hair is longer and ypu use 2 and 1 and hair is dry then use separate products. If not dry the the 2 and 1 is still working for you. Use a good 2 in 1 👍
If you don't rinse everyday how can you deal with sweat? Is dry shampoo the only option? I'm thinking about trying to use less shampoo but I usually workout everyday.
I use only distilled. Only once per week....with an Organic poo. My hair is to my hips....and I intend to grow longer~~~~~less is more def. But, I must say, you need to wash out the impurities in the air, dust etc.....and sweat and old skin cells. You can also use two or three drops of rosemary oil in your shampoo bottle...:)))))

If I skip shampooing for a couple days I get these really small white flakes in my hair and when I shower and scratch at my scalp I’ll notice some white residue in my finger nails. I know it’s probably bad but my head just feels dirty if I don’t shampoo everyday or at least every other day
I wash my hair once a week with shampoo diluted with water. Then from ear length down I stroke 16 drops of baby oil into the length before applying conditioner and doing the final rinse on my hair. I just use shampoo and conditioner from the supermarket. Works well for me, my hair is now calf length.
My big question would be: "How do you know all this?" And by that I mean, how do you know you have to massage your scalp if you're doing the water-only method? How do you know that works? Was a study conducted where one group just let warm/hot water run through their hair without massaging, while another group let warm/hot water run through their hair and also massaged their scalp? And then you examined the results? How do you know that rinsing with cold water produces better results than rinsing with warm/hot water? See what I'm getting at? I could be wrong, but I don't think any studies have ever been conducted on what techniques work best if you opt for the water-only rinsing/wash, yet there are so many "experts" out there giving advice. I am just over three weeks into the no shampoo (aka "no poo") method, and I am loving it! I had the super oilys the end of Day 1, all of Day 2 and all of Day 3. Day 4, things actually weren't as bad; I saw a noticeable difference. And after that, things have slowly gotten better and better. There's no smell either; your hair just smells like natural hair. I don't rinse with cold water. I don't massage my scalp, though I do sort of squeegee my hair while the warm/hot water is running through it. When I'm done, I simply pat the excess water with my towel, and then I just use a wide-toothed comb. Done. This has been working for me, but I would add that I, too, haven't conducted any experiments on myself to see if other techniques worked better.
Well, you both are using anecdotal evidence and personal experience to justify your choices. Nothing wrong with that. Even the most "ironclad" scientific and mathematical theories started out as a bunch of recipes. We have to start somewhere...
@@maloxi1472 You are correct, indeed, which is why I said this: "This has been working for me, but I would add that I, too, haven't conducted any experiments on myself to see if other techniques worked better." My whole point is that there are many TH-camrs who are making CLAIMS about what you NEED to do with the no shampoo method yet have conducted no sort of studies to back up these claims. And what they are saying may very well turn out to be correct. I'm not saying any of these people are wrong. They could be wrong, though. And that's just it -- we just don't really know. 😀
I think for him it is based on experience as a person who handles hair all the time. Even for myself and family, I know how their hair types are and the specifics of what works for them and just hair in general because my family is so large with so many hair types. Experience is sometimes more valuable than anything else.
@@erosia4232 I am now well over a year, and I love it. I love the simplicity of it all. I no longer have to buy shampoos, no conditioners. I just completed 2 weeks of no shampoo and I can't take it anymore. My my hands are horribly greasy after touching it in the shower. Water alone will not cut through it. My scalp scrapes off easily under my fingernail if I scratches my head. Haven't tried a scrubbing tool like a brush, but I don't think that will help. I have always had a big problem with my hair returning to greasy less than 24 hours after washing. I happened to try Salon Selectives® Marula Magic™ from Dollar Tree® and the difference was night and day. Have never used any shampoo costing over $1 USD before. I wonder what a more expensive one might do. Maybe even better. Maybe worse. I don't know. What I do know is that I have hair that must be washed every day and I don't think water alone could ever be for me. I was hoping that my hair would eventually stop 🛑 becoming greasy and stop replacing oils if I stopped stripping them with harsh chemicals. But as of 2 weeks, the answer has been NO and this whole experience has been a nightmare for me.
Hey, friend. If you do more research into the "no 'poo" technique of haircare, you will find that, for some people, the transition into nice hair can take months. For some, it will only take a few weeks, but not all people. I would recommend trying again and going for a few months. Keep in mind that a bad diet and lack of exercise can also lead to either a longer transition or continually bad hair.
@@naurchleor I don't have months to wait. Those 2 weeks were one of the most miserable 2 weeks of my life. I'm never doing that again. I get my shampoo from the dollar store (now the dollar 25 store). The shampoo makes a big difference. Cheap shampoos like VO5®, Suave®, and White Rain® caused my hair to get disgusting in under 24 hours for 35 years until I discovered Silkience® and Salon Selectives® which are ALSO in the dollar store. Maybe some $20+ shampoos are even better, but I don't care to find out. I'm satisfied with what I'm doing. Takeaways: 1. I think he's full of shit and most people need shampoo to cut through disgusting oils. 2. The brand of shampoo DOES make a difference. 3. You don't need to use expensive shampoo though. That is also bullshit. 4. I forgot what else I was gonna say. I have to get up early to give a Ted Talk tomorrow. Good day.

I've only used warm water an then cold water to rinse off my hair for a year now an so far its helped me. Still every month or so ille use some coconut oil, or aloe that I let set then wash out. Just have to be thorough an scrub gently, no more dandruff an less itch then when I even used Tea Tree.
I DOTN WANT TO SLEEP WITH THE KNOWEDGE THAT MY HAIR HASNT BEEN WASHED. I CANT SLEEP. I SMELL IT.
Which days in a cycle (lets say, rise daily but shampoo every 2 days) do you think you should apply oil? Cause like, the rinse day before the shampoo day is the oiliest day (I would suppose) so adding oil that day would be a bad idea?
Shampoo then oil
Thank you so much i always want to know about this
I used to wash my hair everyday with inexpensive shampoo and after used a bad products which is causeed my scalp hair to fall and i lost back in the days i heard voices that i had the best hair in the village now i semi fucking bald 19yrs old boy
Started experimenting. Shampoo one day, just rinse the next day, towel dry and use dry shampoo for the in between days before feeling like I need to shampoo it again. 😀

Do Tom Cruise hairstyle in Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol
As I have very fine and thin hair I stopped using shampoo a few months ago. When I use shampoo it was takes days to recover, now even my hairdresser sees abdifferenc, my har feels like hair and not feathers.
How is not using shampoo going?
The thing with water washing my hair is my hair feels so much better for the first two days, thicker and super easy to style and has natural volume
Could you please do Leonardo DiCaprio’s hairstyle from the basketball diaries?
I have hair about 10 inches long. I don't use product to style. I'm thinking:
Monday wash/condition
Wednesday rinse
Thursday condition
(maybe Friday Rinse)
Saturday (or Friday)dry shampoo
And then start over
Thoughts anyone?
I use quality salon products and even I've been told for my hair type I only need to use shampoo/conditioner 2-3 times a week.
Dandruff is the serious reason I do use shampoo everyday or it will start itching at the night before sleeping .
Don’t do it , leave shampoo because it’s a cycle of stripping oils of your hair and then your hair overflows oil, dandruff happens when hair is really oily.
You could try using two cap fulls of Apple Cider Vinegar in Warm Water.
i have to wash my hair everyday. i produce enough oil to make a successful oil refinery lol. i tried washing it every like 2 or 3 days for about 6 months and it just made things worse
same idk how to fix it
Some people do the one month without washing I heard it works extremely well against your problem
I think you are using cold water use luke warm water.I am also using cold water my hair get oily everyday, and when i use luke warm water it clean my scalp and now i am using shampoo 2 days a week.

YOUR HAIR GETS OILY FAST? YOU HAVE AN OILY SCALP? WASH EVERYDAY WITH SHAMPOO! HERE'S WHY:
For those of you with oily scalps/hair that think shampooing their hair once a week/month/year would cause it to grease up less or over longer periods of time, here are some legitimate, research-backed, science-based facts:
there is no special sensor in your skin cells that detects moisture from the outside and suddenly understands to produce less oil.
Good info
I agree with this wholeheartedly however your skin does have receptors that detect Trans Epidermal Water Loss (TEWL) this can be slowed by conditioner moisturising the scalp and slowing TEWL however, dont expect washing hair daily and not using conditioner or serum on the scalp to moisturise will leave your hair oil free. Your body will quickly expel sebum to slow TEWL to avoid a dry scalp but once again this is only when your skin barrier has no emollient on it.
then what the hell is this video for
I use a shampoo brush with warm water, rinse, then rinse with ice water. Every morning in the shower I do this routine. I NEVER look forward to the ice cold water rinse lol hate it everytime. Great video. Shampoo brush is great
Man this blinding bright background really compliments that shiny head
I use to wash it everyday but it’s now only twice a week. I use hair oil twice a week before I shower.
My hair is getting thicker & softer :)
If i use wax or putty most days can i wash my hair daily? I do have medium to thick hair that is a little dry sometimes but normally on days i don't wash my hair it loses all its volume
I tried using warm water but I keep getting dandruff
dont. use cold water
use zinc shampoo if you still get it get it over the table
I have curly type 3c hair. I rinse my hair with water almost everyday. I live in the desert where the atmosphere is so dry! I wet my hair with water and message my scalp then use an emollient rich leave in conditioner layered with oil to lock in the water. I shampoo once and deep condition once a week.
does it look good this way?
I've been just watering my hair with cold water... I've just been feeling the oils and still dandruff.
It's slightly being better but not clear I want it really clear so I can get my hair faded... 🥺
thanks. i really needed this because I was researching hard about this but couldn't find enough info. much love
thanks! i live in a tropical country where temperatures can get hot and humid and washing the head with water alleviates headaches. i had a bad case of migraine from not washing my hair but my hair was great though hahahah

What about living in Houston Texas. This heat has me drench head to toe and I feel like I need to wash my hair every. Help
Any help
Thanks for the info! What shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are you using?
More than 2 months since I last used shampoo or conditioner on my hair. Feel better without shampoo .
@@msAmberTHEmaniac I’ve literally done it all😂 it’s always frizzy after it dries. It only looks good the day after
Should we rinse our hair everyday ? Please answer sir I am very confuse
heyy, I use Cantu curling cream everyday ( i cannot go the other day without it) should i shampoo everyday to get rid of the product from the day before or give it a water rinse off?
Cantu is bad mate
How do YOU know this...
For someone with short hair, what’s your opinion on Method 2 in 1 shampoo? Or should I go back to a separate shampoo and conditioner?
2 in 1 is good fornshort hair, once your hair is longer and ypu use 2 and 1 and hair is dry then use separate products. If not dry the the 2 and 1 is still working for you. Use a good 2 in 1 👍

is it good when i always washing my hair everyday?
Thanks I don’t know how to thank ☺️💖 I use hair iron almost every other day it will hurt my hair ? I mean if I use argan oil before use it’s fine ?
I wash my hair once a week. I stopped using conditioner. I still have seborrhea, but my hair looks great.
If you don't rinse everyday how can you deal with sweat? Is dry shampoo the only option? I'm thinking about trying to use less shampoo but I usually workout everyday.
This was very informative and helpful
Thanks alot
I use only distilled. Only once per week....with an Organic poo. My hair is to my hips....and I intend to grow longer~~~~~less is more def. But, I must say, you need to wash out the impurities in the air, dust etc.....and sweat and old skin cells. You can also use two or three drops of rosemary oil in your shampoo bottle...:)))))
Whats your care routine
do you apply oil everyday
You wash once per week? Do you also rinse during the week or not?
What about someone who exercises alot? I work out monday through Thursday and again on Saturday; i skip friday and sunday, I do a five mile run and my hair gets soaked, should I then shampooand condition everyday? I usually just shampoo every other day like monday then wednesday I also use coconut oil when I feel like my hairs super dry. Thank you for looking at my comment if you do cheers!
How create a habit of running and get up early in the morning
@@manikaur6278 just wake up and do it, simple as that
If I skip shampooing for a couple days I get these really small white flakes in my hair and when I shower and scratch at my scalp I’ll notice some white residue in my finger nails. I know it’s probably bad but my head just feels dirty if I don’t shampoo everyday or at least every other day
Thats probably why it’s flaky, dandruff happens when your hair is either to oily or too dry. It’s all about balancing the ph of your scalp.
I wash my hair once a week with shampoo diluted with water. Then from ear length down I stroke 16 drops of baby oil into the length before applying conditioner and doing the final rinse on my hair. I just use shampoo and conditioner from the supermarket. Works well for me, my hair is now calf length.
Why do I lose more hair when I use conditioner than when I don't.
I just didn’t realize that water rinses anything out, in that case I’ll definitely be using shampoo less, esp bc my hair is curly.
Just the hot water running through my hair while in the shower. Pat it dry with a towel when I'm out, comb it with my wide-toothed comb. Done. It's simple; it's easy; it's no cost. 👍
you dont want to lock in moisture. moisture needs to stay OUT of the hair shaft.

Hello, where do you buy your body soap (called Body)? Thank you!
Does anyone know if it gives you more volume ? I have very thin hair and just wondering if this process helps ? Been doing it for almost 2 months now, Hair feels great and doesn’t smell at all (rinse my hair everyday I shower and give the scalp a good massage) and also very happy to see there’s no dandruff as it was a common thing before.
It shows so much more of scalp when I don’t use shampoo so just water is a no go for me
I have ringlet type curly hair. I shampoo and condition every 2 days. I wet my entire head daily and also put conditioner on the shaft and ends daily in the shower. I am told by family my hair smells bad after wetting it (doesn’t smell bad after shampoo). I have to wet it every day for curl pattern to reform. If I don’t wet it every day and I skip a day my hair looks awful. Matter down, curls are out of shape, frizzy. Like a broom. Any suggestions? I don’t want to shampoo every day because that will dry out my hair. Thanks
Is it ok to use a scalp massager when I wash my hair with just water between shampooing? Can I use castor oil and leave it on over night?
I use a shampoo brush in the shower (without shampoo) because it messages my scalp. Castor oil is REALLY hard to get out without shampoo. I did finally get it washed out with water, but it took about 4-5 washes.

Takeaways:
Good day.
