They actually have the rhinos back cause they warn them if danger is near since rhinos are so big the birds can see over the grass and see if any lions (not that the lions would win) but the birds would see the, and alert the rhino
Those are oxpecker birds. They eat the ticks and other parasites off large African mammals, but if there aren't enough of those they'll peck into them and drink their blood. Elephants will chase away any that try to land on them, but for rhinos and most others the energy cost of trying to get rid of them is more than that of the blood loss.
Rhino's are tough. But if it tried something on those calf's. That mother matriarch would have stepped right in. And that might have been curtains for that Rhino if that had happened.
The minute that rhino turned on to its side the matriarch could knock it down. Bull elephants have been known to wrap they trunk around the horn in a stand off, I’m sure that matriarch could too. Elephants learn quickly, push down and crush. The horn can pierce and severely damage. But strength, tusks and weight will win overall. They tear down trees with those trunks all the time. The rhino is stocky and a basically a boulder, but once moving the elephant ain’t stopping. They said there’s been a rise in Bull aggression towards Rhinos lately too because poachers keep killing the big bulls and they need to let out testosterone so they go after rhinos during their musks.

With an exception of the matriarch, that rhino is actually much closer in size to the adult females, so I assume it’s a bull. Every other instance I seen must’ve been between a bull elephant and a rhino because male elephants are much bigger. They always make rhinos look small
