  • (Some subscribers asked for a video with the original sound, that is why I have uploaded another video (with original sound):
    • SOUTH AFRICA rhino bab... ).
There is a lot of discussion about the question who is dad and who is mom.
The young stays with its mother, that is sure.
This video gives not a good answer, but if you would watch the above mentioned extended version you would see at 1.40 the tit of the udder in a split second.
We met this family (dad, mam and newborn child) in the south of Kruger national park early in the morning. It was funny to see how the young rhino was "greeting" her/his father.
Music by Rick Clarke (African Safari).

I’ll never forget when I went to a reserve in S. Africa and we got introduced to the anti-poaching soldiers that dedicate their lives to protecting these beautiful creatures. They shared some stories with us of some close calls and when they found poachers on the land.
I asked what they do with poachers and one of the soldiers said “they disappear and the lions and crocs get an easy meal…it’s a win-win!” I laughed a little thinking he was joking but when I looked at him, he was stone cold serious and said “it doesn’t end well for anyone trying to poach on these lands!”

I value wildlife and the need for wildlife conservation AND habitat preservation -- which also threatens these endangered species.
Sadly, most poachers are driven by poverty to take these risks. To REALLY fix these wildlife issues -- the world needs to put PRESSURE on CHINA, MALAYSIA, and perhaps a few other SE Asian nations that have not signed the INTERNAT'L BAN ON IVORY TRADE (CHINA = #1 culprit). Wipeout the DEMAND side for Ivory and Rhino horn.
POVERTY + EDUCATION are issues that go hand in hand. Both must be addressed and solutions developed, as Africa's Wildlife is one of the MAIN DRAWS for their TOURISM INDUSTRY, which will only GROW STRONGER when African nations collectively resolve their internal issues of political volatility, war, crime, poverty, (ALL FOSTERED BY Cabal-OWO Forces that have used + "RAPED" Africa of its wealth, resources and potential since the British Empire Age, mid-1800's) etc. and truly dedicate themselves, their nations to better education and creating job opportunities for their ppl + kicking oppressors OUT(!!!) which would only increase revenues for African nations, their Nature Preserves and Parks, and an array of conservation efforts.
Together these initiatives would create the SAFEST, MOST FINANCIAL SOUND PATH + REALITY FOR AFRICA TODAY and TOMORROW.

@@debrahouston2884 That's all very nice and well put. Unfortunately in the real world things are seldom that nice. The soldiers who protect this land are these critters best bet at a normal life. I value human life over animals but these critters are protected for a reason. If someone tries to take their life they should be prepared to lose theirs. May the protectors of this land never lose their resolve because then it is open season for these critters. And I know you don't want that ma'am. God bless

I like how the baby ran over to mom afterwards like “I did it Ma! I made pop back down!”

Actually, I think dad backed up because of Mom - who was right beside the baby. No way he’s be intimidated by a little one like that. Now MOM, on the other hand . . . absolutely!
I’ve seen lionesses & gorilla mothers drive dads away from their own babies.

I genuinely think this is because of the bird that keeps flying onto its back, not that the baby is 'challenging' the father

He's not challenging his father, he is protecting his mother. He advances towards the father and then bounces away with 'joie de vie'. Isn't youth wonderful?

Think the gender was pretty clear by the direction of the urine stream. Then one urinating is female (urine going backwards - out of the rear). If it was male the urine would be going forward.
