You literally think outside the box! The way your mind uses whatever tool it needs, is like little "ah-ha" moments! I'd bet anything some leather crafters are asking themselves "Why didn't I think of that!" I think working with various materials across multiple vocations, frees the mind from conventional thinking, allowing you to use whatever tools help get the task at hand completed! I really enjoyed this one!
I think he put a whole lotta though inside this box, too. I ready like those veg tan braces and strapping against the darker leather. Maybe you need to patent a 'leather' dado blade.
@@AnnoyedJots We actually already have a specialized tool for cutting a v groove in leather to an exact depth. And it is cheap and easy to use. Similar to a hand plane but has a V gouge in the center.
Wahoo ! Beautiful leather wine box. I'm leather worker in France, I watch every videos you post about leather but this one is one of the best you do. Amazing ! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
How fabulously timeless: As charming, practical & delightful now as it would have been for celebrating the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Thank you for sharing!
Life hack, for (winter) dry hands I take half a box of gelatin (Jell-O brand usually) and mix it well into a cup of warm water and drink it down. Wait 2-3 days if you don't notice some relief do the other half box. I rarely have to do the second half. The collagen works it's way through your body and heals from within. Appreciate yours content.
Antique Roadshow on a spaceship.....😂 Got a visual....busted out laughing! Carrier is GORGEOUS!!! Lucky guy who's getting it! You make it look so easy!
I was dissappointed when I saw you splitting the leather strip with the weaver machine. You should send it through the planer! 😂 I love every video you make Jimmy. I think the most important lesson you teach every time is your workflow! Thank you for teaching me for the last 9 years! ❤❤
Jimmy, having been a leather worker for over 30 years, all leather bends easier when you case it (get it wet/damp). take a look at wet forming leather, it makes creating custom holders / shapes a lot easier. there is also a tool for cutting straping, you just need a straight edge to start with. hmmm I may have to break out my track saw to create a straight edge in the future...
So functional and beautiful! Awesome marriage of craft techniques. I loved seeing a festool track saw used to make straps 😂 Also- Leather weight is translatable to inches! 1 ounce is equal to 1/64”. So that 15 ounce weight is just about 1/4” :)
I do hours of hand stitching with leather, and I use the rubber gloves exclusively. They save my hands and give excellent grip while maintain dexterity.
Jimmy!!!! I've been following you for years and have learned so much from you, I started with leather working a few years ago and is now becoming my main source of income. I absolutly can't understand the Head Knife. It goes against everything I know about using knives!!! 🤣🤣🤣 I firmly belive that most people that use them only do it because it is trendy. Some might disagree and try to argue but I won't belive them 😅
I tried and tried and tried to use a box cutter for leather, for years. then when I got a head knife it was a 100% amazing game changer for me. I understand they aren't for everyone, but I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss them as something people use just because they think they're supposed to or they're just traditional. they're an amazing knife that can work well if you give them a chance and take the time to learn how to use and sharpen then correctly.
Great job!! I liked your philosophy, on your leather work, down the line, in the future... making items that are ,Heirloom quality, is only way to go..
This doesn't happen the first time unless you have a lot of prior learning under Murphy's tutelage. going to school on the prototype allows the creative "Diresta" to express a concept. Nicely done sir!
Cool and unusual box, Jimmy! If I happen to see it in a thrift shop in 90 years, I will definitely buy it! Love seeing the leather work. It's something I have never tried but have an interest in.
Looks awesome. You could take a clue from leather instrument bags, like a saxophone gig bag, that uses a sleeve that snaps around the top of the carry straps to keep them together and for carrying comfort.
Amazing piece; your leather projects are really interesting stuff whether they get the views or not. That embossing machine for the branding is really slick.
1/21/24..hey Jommy, that is a beautiful 1/4"thick 'Rose' colored leather (6pk) wine carry box. Love the video format of FF & voice over. Very professional presentation..aa always! Stay safe & warm...& carry on!🍷😊
Great looking carrying case. Always enjoy seeing new techniques used in your videos. Can always use some outside the box thinking, even when making a box. Thanks for sharing!
I a huge fan of leather and enjoyed this video immensely. A very handsome carry case and love the two colours my favourite for leather. I’ve subscribed as hope to see more of your projects on TH-cam. Good explanations. Great stuff, loved it.❤
Another new product for the DiResta Shop! This would be a great utility carry-all. Maybe snaps for the internal partitions to allow personal customization. Great box, Jimmy!
I only use Barge contact cement. I have tried so many, but I have the exact opposite problem as you. I find it to be the most manageable. Which I hate because the smell is horrible. But I do agree the leather working world is filled with a biased towards doing things the old way and only that way. But in my opinion the Barge contact cement is wayyyyyyy to good not too use. But my next favorite is Renia Aquilm. It is a waster based glue and is similar to PVA. Beautiful piece! And in my opinion the head knife is a great knife for its time. You cannot afford to buy 5 different blades to cut leather in 1800. 1 blade that can do all the very specific tasks needed to make a saddle. Not the best blade for any step but one that will work for every step. But today I feel it is mainly for decoration.
I work with leather a lot. Once I needed a skiing knife and I don’t own one but I do wood working too so I grabbed a chisel and used it. Use what you have. As for stitching holes in thick leather? That’s what a drill press is for. Woodworking tools on leather work well.
Maravilloso trabajo de bellísima artesanía, donde se combinan exquisitos materiales con gran maestría e inteligencia. Le transmito mi más sincera felicitación. Greetings from Barcelona, Spain.
Whenever you are about to use a rivet, you should pause and work backwards to a different method. Lining the insides would be next level too. Fun watching you improve.
Amazing! I personally would of put some nylon rope inside the handle just to make sure it stays stiff over a long period of time just so that oil and swear from hands dont soften it to much
You are incredible! Wood, leather, metal etc... just mind blowing at times. I am so impressed by your work. I listen to the Make It podcast and marvel at how much you know about so many things. Thanks!
When I made my Swiss army medic bag, the leather was thick and i used a V groove bit on my dremel to make the lines where I folded the leather. Hardest thing to learn was the corner stitching so leather lined up at 90 degrees. (vid on channel if people want to see it)
Great ptoject. You would still need the rivets, but if you just wanted the appearance of stitching, you could have just done decorative stitching around the straps before attaching them to the box.
90 year... on a spaceship! Awesome!!! LOL or it'll end up in the Diresta museum. Cool idea and cool project!!

Aware and a proud owner of a few. They just aren't as fast, loud, and dangerous as a table saw blade
👍👍👍
smiles, great thought about Antiques Roadshow in the future....

It even looks like a wrapped present!
I appreciate all the nails in the wooden base. It seems like a strong connection.
I like that wine carrier.
I love the mentality of "if it works, it ain't stupid"
Cutting a piece of leather on a table saw...legend
Love it. It looks like a present 🎁
I remember the old tool tips videos when Jimmy used to say "don't use the tools like I do"... Hell yeah I would, what a genius
Wow what an artist and craftsmen you are sir always so inspiring and amazed watching what you do Thanks for always sharing your ideas.

Excellent job on the dividers!
I’ve been planning a front bag for my Brompton bike. This certainly gives some food for thought.

My childhood Scout Master would love something like this, he liked to drink whiskey during our camping trips

Great job Jimmy!! I never thought about using wood tools for leather working!! I’ll be making a couple of these for presents !! Thank you!!
Sir, you are an amazing builder. designer, engineer. I'm always intrigued watching your videos with the care you take to detail. Bravo!!

The leather work I find very cool. I’ve got metal and wood projects for days, but hopefully I’ll find some time too dive into this.
Great job!! I liked your philosophy, on your leather work, down the line, in the future... making items that are ,Heirloom quality, is only way to go..
I love watching you work leather, it inspires me to give it a try.

I dig this. I learned some things. And I wish more of my own real-time design experiments turned out this polished.
Nicely done Jimmy. Now you can get drunk with even MORE class!! Thank you for sharing.
Jimmy is sober, but as someone who enjoys his wine, I agree with you!
No he filled it with cheap wine. that's WORKING CLASS :)

Just saw you on this old house making a leather bag. Fantastic
You are a master! I love your work man! very impressive, one of kind. Thank you for sharing.
Great looking carrying case. Always enjoy seeing new techniques used in your videos. Can always use some outside the box thinking, even when making a box. Thanks for sharing!
I like steel weights too. I really like the 3,4,5 blocks
I missed the 2 million roll over! Congrats! Love what you’re doing with all these leather projects. This one is thicccc

Always with the crossover techniques. Such a cool project.
3:18 HEY, I recognized Wesleys push stick design, Great on you Jimmy, supporting your fellow creators and makers.
This tote is gorgeous Jimmy! Thank you for showing how you make such beautiful items!
Great project Jimmy!! I always enjoying watching you work out packaging design.
I always learn something new watching your videos! Awesome stuff, as usual.
Beautiful work, I love the stich pattern and the contrast between the handle and the body.
As usual, awesome & beautiful work on that carrier Jimmy! Whoever is getting that is very lucky indeed! 👍👍👏👏🔨🔨

Beautiful carrying case! Kind of makes me want to try some leather working now.
Here in northern Sweden this is a traditional vessel if made with wood bottom and sides of birchbark instead of leather (yes you can sew birchbark)
Hi Jimmy. I like this 90 years idea. I guess the little nailheads on the bottom will be missed.
Greetings from Vienna, Christoph
Awesome as usual, your making repertoire is amazing, and inspiring 🙏
A disc of rubber from a bicycle inner-tube is good for pulling a needle through leather & a small disc of leather for pushing it
I really enjoy your leather videos. Thanks, Jimmy! 👍👍👍

Seen this on Instagram, had to come over here and see it. Amazing job!!
“If it works, it ain’t stupid.”
True statement, sir.
Hello Jimmy beautiful bag beautifully made good job mister

Great teacher! Thanks for sharing your hard earned talents
Interesting to see the package design knowledge applied to a beautiful piece of leather work. New Patreon content is really appreciated.
Gorgeous!! “Classic Jimmy” 😊

Perfect hand bag

Great video, amazed how fast you edited it. Case is beautiful. Mahalo for sharing!
Very cool project. It was really interesting seeing you work with the thicker leather. Looks like a bear to work with.

That looks beautiful!! Nicely done jimmy 👊🏽
Absolutely amazing work looks beautiful 👍👍
Great craftsmanship
You make such awesome things ⭐
Beautiful work man. I like to build a cardboard mockup when designing a thing first. that way I can see what I would do differently.
Very nice work Jimmy. Thank you for the video!
That is a handsome box 📦

You are so creative.
Handsome box to hold a 6 pack of Plum loco wine. 😁
Jimmy, you are inspiration man.
Absolutely beautiful!!!
Great work Jimmy! i have little experience in working with leather, and it does seem to work like wood, maybe even easier than actual wood 😄
Looks Good Jimmy.
Absolutely OUTSTANDING!!! You are so freaking good! Thank you!!
Xoxoxoxo
anything for you baby!!
Stunning piece, Jimmy! Really fantastic work! 😃
It could work to carrying lots of different stuff!
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
How awesome. This pag looks beautiful 🥰🥰
Hi, this is awesome work...my dear you make awesome things... love from India...
Locks really nice 👍

You would still need the rivets, but if you just wanted the appearance of stitching, you could have just done decorative stitching around the straps before attaching them to the box.
that gold stamp is what they do for Cricket balls. Just saw a little blurb on Amazon about it.
That idea could be repurposed to make vinyl record case for maximum hipster vibe!
Came out beautiful❤
