I challenge anyone to watch that and not want to have a go. Jimmy Diresta once again inspiring the world to make something and push their boundaries. Thank you Jimmy ❤️
A rocking chair is the number one thing most home woodworkers are afraid to make. You made it look easy. I appreciate all of the years you put in to get to this point and you continue to be the first vid I go to with the weekend updates. You are a Maker Stud. Thanks a ton for all you do. I really appreciate it.
As many times as I've watched you run the band saw, it still amazes me how comfortable and proficient you are with it. I enjoy my band saw, but you have taken it to a whole new level. Very nice work on this chair.
It’s something I can see a little bit of Maloof in his process. I remember seeing a few documentaries on Malouf making chairs, and he did the same thing with the band, shaping the rocking chair, always by hand and all the parts, the arms, the legs, the joints all done with the band saw done by hand
Great book for a beginner . th-cam.com/users/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ this book really starts from the beginning, as in it explains what basic tools are and how to use them. But when it gets to the art of creating joints and how and when to use them this book really starts to teach you something. At least that was my experience.
Maloof must be smiling down knowing people still love his designs and keep making them to this day, top work Jimmy what an awesome heirloom piece to have for yourself 👍🏻
Some projects, once started can strangely take full control and won't let you go until it's finished, just like watching your videos, that is an unapointed but welcomed enigma in any project.I loved the entire build, a beautiful piece of functional furniture art.
So many moments of brilliance to be gleaned from Diresta videos …and when you notice a work flow interruption …you just know its Jimmy’s meditative/creative way to process the task … and I now know a little about Sam Maloof !!! Thanks for sharing !!!
Beautiful job Jimmy ! I just can’t get over how much you look like your father ! Glad to see you in that shop doing well. Tell everyone I said hello. 👍👋
I like how your sketches are full size makes building anything so mush easier, when I was a kid my dad would sketch one of his ideas on a paper napkin and say can you make this, thanks Jimmy for all these video memories🤗😎🤗😎
Master of all trades. Unbelievable disparate skill set. Make it again Jimmy but next time with aluminum rockers, a vacuum formed plastic seat, carbon fiber legs and molded epoxy back.
I visited Maloof along with a group of people who signed up for a home tour back in the 80s, before his shop was moved to its current location. Although he had templates for every part, there was a great deal of sculpting at the bandsaw and later with wood rasps after assembly. He had a trained eye for detail. He used epoxy and wood dust as a filler. He eyeballed the screw placement for the joints and used sheet metal screws and ebony plugs. He said the finishing and sculpting took longer than the building of the chair. He laminated the rockers. He had just outfitted his shop with some big industrial Czechoslovakian equipment as I recall. It was a long time ago.
That is a gorgeous chair. I love the organic way you shaped all of the parts. I could watch this all day. The aesthetic is so cool. It almost has a fantasy element to it. I'm inspired by this!
Do you ever tire of hearing how talented you are? We tell you all the time, but why? You already know that. We are inspired by your creativity and talent. When I watch you make something, be it from wood, steel, or leather, it makes me believe that I can do that too. Yes, you have a lot of equipment that I will probably never be able to afford, but when I watch you make things like this chair, I am convinced that I can use the tools I have to make great things.
I agree with that but instead of "inelegant" (which is a way to see it) I would say "unorthodox" (our world needs people with a nonconformist way of thinking and working ; creativity, serendipity, hability, sense of humour, ... ). Maybe Jimmy Diresta deserves a Genius Grant 😊
I think this is one of the most impressive projects, I have seen on this channel. The freehand work is truly amazing and a great tribute to Mr Maloof. Fantastic. P
Bam! Excellent job Jimmy! I’m amazed how you can whip these ideas right outta your brain and just start doing… I’d still be in the computer… not doing yet lol
Well Done! I too have made a Maloof rocker. Took the class at the Ng School in Orange County, CA. The only big difference is the rocker pads, which were made in strips and formed around a form then carved to final shape. It was fun reliving that experience through your video. Who isn't jealous of that band saw right?
A project so nice, I watched it twice. I know you've said this isn't your favorite project, but I still think you managed to get nice flowing organic shapes that are definitely a hat tip to the style. Thanks for sharing!
Amazing job, as usual. Next time you have a few hours to kill in the LA area, you might consider a visit to Sam Maloof's home, garden and workshop. At least in the pre-plague days, tours were readily available, here in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, about 45 minutes east of downtown LA.
I had the honor of meeting Sam Maloof at his home. I was part of a class where he showed us how he built a rocker. Truly an amazing and humble man.
Jimmy’s ability to carve with a bandsaw is beyond amazing. Beautiful piece!
Hell, he’s got exceptional ability with anything!
I was thinking the same thing. He plays the bandsaw like it’s a fiddle!
I just told my brothers who are carpenters the same thing! freaking awesome!
bandsaw skills on a hole other level!!!
But you can’t beat Sam at bandsaw work!
I challenge anyone to watch that and not want to have a go. Jimmy Diresta once again inspiring the world to make something and push their boundaries. Thank you Jimmy ❤️
Bro… the fact that his starts with a “rough” sketch and ends up with that beauty is mind-blowing to me!
A rocking chair is the number one thing most home woodworkers are afraid to make. You made it look easy. Amazing work. You remain the "Botticelli of the Bandsaw". A true artist.
That. Was. AWESOME! I watch a few woodworkers on TH-cam. Jimmy ain't one of them. This man is a craftsman. He makes wood sing.
The master of tools. I love watching the older industrial tools the most. I’m envious of your skill and experience. Thank you.
Thank you for this video that doesn't use a cnc router, plasma table, or anything computer ran! Good old fashioned diresta talent!
Lots of hard work but what an heirloom piece. Should last centuries.
As many times as I've watched you run the band saw, it still amazes me how comfortable and proficient you are with it. I enjoy my band saw, but you have taken it to a whole new level. Very nice work on this chair.
Seriously. Makes it look so easy, I feel like a fool when I try to use mine 🤣
Diresta and Maloof two masters!!!
Now Mista Diresta, grab your crown, a beer, a cigar and chill. Fantastic work. Thanks for the show!
I love the way you just do it. Don’t overthink it, just do it.
Jimmy has taught me that recognizing the processes that need more attention to get an awesome final product it's a skill by itself
It’s something I can see a little bit of Maloof in his process. I remember seeing a few documentaries on Malouf making chairs, and he did the same thing with the band, shaping the rocking chair, always by hand and all the parts, the arms, the legs, the joints all done with the band saw done by hand

The whole time I'm thinking "My name is Edith Ann and I'm 5 1/2 years old".
Gorgeous Jimmy!!! I love the stain color! I bet it's comfy!
Meloof was one of the best as a builder and designer and a great person. Diresta you nailed it also
Diresta.... sei un grande!!!
E come si dice dalle mie parti: "cada poddiche un'arte" tradotto in italiano "ogni dito un'arte" 🙋♂️
I hope you gave that to someone you love, Jimmy.
So nice.
It's amazing how deceptively effortless this build appears. It would take me days just to muster the courage to make the first cut.
Classic Diresta! Bandsaw magic, unbelievable skills, tons of elbow grease and zero CNC!
Sam would be proud. Nicely done Jimmy.
Never mind the ability, there's no way I'd have the patience to build something as curvy as that. Exquisite work, Jimmy!
Some projects, once started can strangely take full control and won't let you go until it's finished, just like watching your videos, that is an unapointed but welcomed enigma in any project.I loved the entire build, a beautiful piece of functional furniture art.
You work with the bandsaw like Sam did! Bravo 👍

Best band saw operator ever.
Certainly captures the essence of Sam, nice work.
Huge amount of work and such a talent to be able to produce this chair.
this is not a chair it is a sculpture you are a great carpenter
How in the gods name you make it look so easy? No reason you’re the ‘makefathet’. Respect ✊ to the GOAT.
Jimmy makes this look so easy. I’ve been wanting to try making one of these for as long as I can remember but it’s an intimidating project.
Can we just talk about the bandsaw magic. AMAZING!
Who needs a Starrett caliper when you have a Diresta finger 14:45 😂. For me the Maloof Rocker is the most beautiful design of a rocking chair ever👍🏻
Great to see you working in wood again.
You are the absolute master of the bandsaw!
Now this is classic Maloof inspired Diresta!
You nailed it Jimmy. Sam would be proud!
Maloof was a self taught bandsaw master too. Love seeing this build pop up!
It's always so amazing to see how much you can shape with a band saw
Master of all trades. Unbelievable disparate skill set. Make it again Jimmy but next time with aluminum rockers, a vacuum formed plastic seat, carbon fiber legs and molded epoxy back.
I’ve never seen anyone work a bandsaw like that! Wow. Awesome project. Thanks for sharing.

That's beautiful. So organic, you'd almost believe the tree grew that way!
Amazing craftsmanship! It is truly one of your best builds in my opinion. Congratulations.
All that work as a youngster on the bandsaw really paid off!!! Absolutely epic work as always!!👍🏻
There is always something new to learn in every video. You are an inspiration Jimmy. And can’t wait to watch the Netflix show with my grand children x
Man, Jimmy. You're a master with that bandsaw. Love it. Thanks for the awesome content!
Damn Jimmy, this beautiful... I think Sam would be impressed! Thank you for sharing.,
You are a surgeon with that beast of a bandsaw
That is a gorgeous chair. I love the organic way you shaped all of the parts. I could watch this all day. The aesthetic is so cool. It almost has a fantasy element to it. I'm inspired by this!
Wow, super piece of art. In the beginning I thought you are making dining table chairs.
Do you ever tire of hearing how talented you are? We tell you all the time, but why? You already know that. We are inspired by your creativity and talent. Wow this speaks volumes.
i've been following you may be for ten years and i'm still impressed by your dexterity with a bandsaw... Very nice chair Jimmy.
lol that tiny blade on that huge bandsaw is awesome
This will awesomely haunt some luck place rocking alone in the middle of night
Something real spooky about a rocker chair rocking on its own 😂nice work jimmy that chair will last a long time
It's gorgeous Jimmy.....really beautiful !!!
The way you're able to do this with the bandsaw mostly is so cool
That was awesome! That was the Ghost of Tom Joad at the end rocking back and forth.
Mis respetos...eres todo un maestro así como lo fué el Maestro Maloof...eres un genio!!!!
Can't wait for your new show to air!!
Absolute wizard on the bandsaw!!!
You have such a good eye for design. I like seeing these artistic projects.
There's something inelegant about Jimmy's methods, yet he creates incredibly elegant things.

Una obra maestra Jefe! Un vídeo relajante, que cosa más bonita, gracias por compartir!! Saludos desde Andalucía en España
Super fun to watch a Master. Inspiring.
This is why Jimmy is the MJ of makers
MAGNIFIC!!!!!!!
Hello Jimmy Diresta beautiful chair good job well done
Fantastic job Jimmy.
That is a beautiful rocking chair 👍👍👍👍
Kinda looks like Batman. Great looking rocking chair.
Wow,fantastic and beautiful Jimmy!
Whenever I see someone making a rocking chair on TH-cam, all I can think of is the movie the patriot.
Nice! Very classic design, very well done. Has a very organic feel to it.
Dude, when the footage slowed down as you had the grinder in your hand I thought it was going to catch and rip something off. My heart sank a little.
I think this is one of the most impressive projects, I have seen on this channel. The freehand work is truly amazing and a great tribute to Mr Maloof. Fantastic. P
Thank you 🙏🏼
Diresta, the fastest sawman in the west!
Jimmy is like a band saw ninja with those precise cuts…
love the idea of the resin and wood dust used as gap filling glue, gona nick that idea
Really is incredible how organic the chair looks and how you basically sculpt it.
Nice work Jimmy!
He freaking free handed it on band saw. I mean holy.... That's next level.
Bam! Excellent job Jimmy! I’m amazed how you can whip these ideas right outta your brain and just start doing… I’d still be in the computer… not doing yet lol

Stunning!
A true piece of art.
Thank you 🙏🏼
That little slo-mo bit by the 17:30 made me anxious as hell. I was expecting disaster or something for some reason.
I imagine 20 yrs from now, you and Samurai sitting in your rocking chairs, having a hologram zoom call.
Incredible man. Such an inspiration.
Amazing, Jimmy... I have no words! 😮
Beautiful isn't enough to describe it! Truly fantastic looking chair!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
A project so nice, I watched it twice. I know you've said this isn't your favorite project, but I still think you managed to get nice flowing organic shapes that are definitely a hat tip to the style. Thanks for sharing!
your most beautiful piece Jimmy!
