      Oh please. Those are some very decent shop welds for a maker, but don't try to talk them up to the standards of what a professional welder would do on a pressure vessel of any sort.
      Jimmy is a genius at what he does, but there's no need to try to portray him as a welder of the caliber of which you're speaking of.

    Since it’s aluminum you could run a radius on the weld seams. Cut, buff, and polish. But the tig walking looks good too.

  • @kusler67

    One way of ensure that polished aluminum doesn't show any fingerprints is to cover it in fingerprints, that way you won't see the fingerprints.

    Looks really great. The way you made the dove tail joints was just so smart and looked really good. Very shiny as well. Brilliant job.

    • @1pcfred
      @1pcfred ปีที่แล้ว +7

      As the name suggests dovetail joints look like a dove's tail. They're angled fan like. \ / What's used here is called a box joint. Which is often confused with dovetails due to a superficial similarity. They are considerably different joints though. You'd be hard pressed to cut decent dovetails on a table saw. I won't say it can't be done but no one does it. machined dovetails are cut with a router and a jig template.

    • @dougidoug
      @dougidoug ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that I didn’t know the name for that joint but do now. Either way it does look smart and was a smart idea.

    • @ejthompson4950
      @ejthompson4950 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@1pcfred You can cut decent dovetails on a table saw, but you have to build jigs to make it happen. I want to say Tamar at 3x3 customs made a video about it years ago, and made some damn good joints with it. They didn't look hand cut, but they were certainly dovetails. Although given the jig and the setup time, if I were using a table saw I'd go box joint as it's a much easier and more repeatable setup. So you're right, it can be done on a table saw but it's a lot of work.

    • @1pcfred
      @1pcfred ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ejthompson4950 the main problem is the corners of the tails are not right angles. So they cannot be cut properly with right angle tools. No jig can change that either. You'd need a beveled blade to cut that angled corner. But no one has one of those. If you want to machine cut dovetails you use a router. That's the sensible solution. It's what everyone does.

    • @kronographer
      @kronographer ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@1pcfred ridge carbide makes beveled blades for making exactly that sort of cut. I don’t remember if Tamar used special blades or cleaned up the corners with hand tools. It is possible and the tooling exists but unless you’ve got a production shop setup running multiple table saws for each blade type and angle…. No one is really using the tablesaw method at home.
