USE OF SAND... It is used when rails are wet. Actually there is a compartment for filling sand. When loco engages a turn, it spills the sand to increase the friction between wheels and rails.. Hope it answers lots of doubts..

Not only the below mentioned coment but in wdp and wdg locos, the loco pilot has to honk within an an interval of 1 minute. If that doesn't happen the loco will come to a halt and the engine will turn off. This measure is taken to avoid accidents and also to drive people and animals away
There will be a security system Incase LP falls asleep then if no control Is done then engine comes to halt if about honking trains with great speed have to continuously honk to keep people and animals aware

The ring that the driver is clicking , is the independent bail off ring. It is quite a complex thing to understand and for obvious reasons, not easy to explain in a few paragraphs. When the service brakes are applied by the driver, the brakes on the locomotives come on as well. For a few reasons, it is a good driving practice to keep the locomotive air brakes released and let the train decelerate by using the brakes on wagons / coaches. So, for every brake application made, the bail off is performed to keep the locomotive brakes released. If Dynamic Braking is on, the locomotive air brakes should stay off anyway. While starting up the train, drivers need to ensure that the locomotive brakes are released. Most of us do use the bail off to ensure the complete release of the locomotive air brakes. I have watched a few videos of this particular person driving. He has a habit of unnecessarily clicking on the bail off ring. Using the bail off once should suffice.
