Really liked all the points you made. I just returned my S24 Ultra because my ZFold5 actually was capturing better photos! Now I'm no camera expert so maybe with more knowledge I could have gotten more out of the S24 Ultra but with my ZFold 5 I don't have know what all the settings do so it works for me. Quite the change, it is indeed something else, and it does change the usual user experience that a consumer would have with a smartphone and I don't think I would ever go back to a normal smartphone (I'll stick to foldables). However, there are 2 things I don't like: the aspect ratio of the cover screen, it's too narrow, and I have fat thumbs... not easy to type on it. The second thing would be the fact that the main screen, the actual killer feature of the phone, is too reflective and makes the crease too visible. This is something that Samsung could have easily fixed by using a matt finish on the screen foil, just like Oneplus did with their foldable.

TY for this in-depth, awesome review! You sold me, I'm going to be in the market for a new Samsung (just about time to retire my S10, she had a good run!), very soon & I'm getting the Fold5!! 😊
As a Z Flip 5 user I like your point about Dex. If the Z Flip had Dex it would be amazing, anything from a small pocketable media player/Fittness tracker, to a standard candybar phone, or a desktop all in one device.

I'm old enough that I remember carrying around bricks in my pocket (first modern consumer cell phones). Didn't bother me then and surely won't bother me now.
You do understand that a wider inner screen messes up app optimisation right? Have you seen the pixel fold? Awful aspect ratio so most apps are stretched or have black bars. Samsung have got the inner screen spot on!
@@Gamer_85 Full screen single app, sure some. Multi window, a folding devices bread and butter, no. Wider multi windows are way more beneficial. If you buy folding phones to mainly run single apps, you likely made the wrong choice in phones. It's your money, spend it how you want, but that's like buying a Lambo to only cruise main street. Take that as you will. I'm in multi window 90% of the time. When I'm watching a movie, I really don't care if there's black bar bars, but a wider device will still allow for a larger viewing mode. I'm not running most apps in a single view enough to notice the black bars.
@@Jermz1979 I have a fold 5 and I don't have to make sacrifices I can open single apps on both screens with no issues and have less black bars when watching content on the inner screen
my mom was convinced to order one because she wants a tablet she can use as a phone, this is both a tablet and a phone, she doesn't want to have to set up 2 things, she wants one device to rule them all, this is exactly that for her. and I REALLY want one so she got one for me too.
You have very helpful videos on the Fold-5. Ultimately, I ended up purchasing a used 512GB Fold-5 for $900. I believe the Fold-5 is something you have to use for while to appreciate the difference between a slab and a Fold series. More so if you are a senior and the eye-sight is not what it used to be. The biggest downfall I see would be it being hard to ever go back to a slab phone.
❤ had the Galaxy you would get " free" from metro after the activation fee. Decent phone long story short, been a shit year. Became homeless for the only time, ended up in a rehab where your BLACKOUT PERIOD began by putting your phone in a locked box... Allowed to be unlocked and used after ten months in program. Screw that I wasn't paying $80 a month for a phone that was locked up so I canceled my Metro phone and my metro plan. Got out of rehab well I got an Obama phone after. Any phone is better than no phone but it has such limitations that I'm ready to go back to looking for a phone. My little heart is set p on the phone you are reviewing. Omg it's an expensive little diddy but I'm addicted to the larger screens and I love the fact that this can have that large screen. It cost me $114 out the door per month but I've been looking at reviews because for that price even I want to be sure thank you for the view it helped a lot
i was about to buy one of these until my fears were confirmed that the aspect ratio of the internal displays means most videos and movies never take full advantage of it. whats the point in having that huge screen when most movies and videos are in an entirely different aspect ratio? from what i can tell, because of this aspect ratio, most of the time a video will actually play a little bigger on a regular smart phone than on this foldable.
No it's okay in real life, it's not at the level of a tablet but a 14 pro max will show you the films etc in a smaller size than this fold 5, on the other hand if you take a oneplus open, a vivio x fold 2 or other there o yes classic iphones or smartms will have larger films
youre the first person ive seen that said you like that theyr building slowly.. fuck no samsung has gotten lazy. still have my fold 3 cus the newer models arent worth it for the same exact phone
I really miss the 10x optical zoom as well, but the AI does a really decent job cleaning up the pixelation when using the digital zoom. What I'm really baffled at with using the cover screen to take selfies with the rear camera is why there is no flash option? I used to always take "blind" selfies with the rear camera on my S22 Ultra by tapping where I knew the shutter button should be. Having the traditional flash go off always made the pics in nice clear focus and good exposure in darker conditions. I don't understand why we can't turn the flash on with rear-selfie on the cover screen. Granted, it is really nice seeing exactly what framing you are setting with the cover preview...but I don't know if the trade-off of no flash is worth it. Pictures are often subpar, forcing me to go back to my old S22 method. The rear facing camera pics are SO much better looking than the front facing camera resolution.
Had the first fold and had the later versions and I think the front screen is not wide enough .As a previous comment that mentioned the same thing . For me it’s not wide enough to use it as a normal smartphone and I always find I have to open it continuously .Which makes a simple task a bit of a production .The inside is good for watching media . Needs a half inch or inch wider . At home I prefer my IPad Pro for watching videos . I prefer as a phone the S23 ultra.
This was an excellent review. I've always loved Samsung phones and the Note was my absolute favorite. But now having Google Fi as a carrier, the Note (per Google), isn't "built for Fi" but instead compatible with Fi. But after seeing the Fold and the simple fact that it's made by Samsung and all of their packed features, I'm definitely thinking about getting one even though it is only compatible with Fi. Thanks again for a great review.
Just got the fold 5 and as a samsung power user (also got a galaxy watch, the 1st gen galaxy chromebook, and a old galaxy E tab, on top of upgrading from a Note 10+) I gotta say its made alot of my other devices superfluous. I can do most of what i do on my chromebook on the fold, albiet not as comfortably, but im impressed at the specs and the versatility of the phone. I havent gotten to dig into much of what it has to offer, but ill keep tinkering around.
Ive been an android user since the iphone 5 and was getting bored with it so i sold my s23 ultra and switched to a pro max for a little while. I will probably use this until another generation or two of foldables comes out and then thats my next move. I was very close to pulling the trigger on the one plus open but its just so hard to get a repair done where i live.
hello bro I am a long term Samsung user but not a fan boy. I Used all the previous S series and old Note series. I like Samsung for what it gives and in terms of security. Also tried one plus devices and instantly realized what i missed from Samsung and then switched back. If possible could you do a review on the One plus Open. I am now looking forward for a folding device as i need the larger display choice for certain tasks, photo editing and all. I want to know if the one plus open is actually better than the Z fold 5 or not.
If u have the money for s23u and s9 tablet might be better u save battery life on both of them. But u will be carrying both around with u. The z fold 5 inner screen is bigger then the s23u but in smaller then s9 tablet. If u really want to see the fold in action. Go to a phone store that got a live demo to try it out in the store.
First time I'm using a Samsung Fold device. You need to get used to the weight of the phone. Overall, it's a good device. I'm using it since August 2023 and got it replaced three times due to the Bluetooth issue. No problem with it now. 😂
I have a Fold 4. It will be the last Samsung product I purchase. I bought the first one in Jan 23, and the inner screen failed in Nov 23. The replacement one I got through the Best Buy Total tech didn't last 4 months, and after trying to deal with Samsung directly and through their service center, I was told that they DO NOT warranty cracks in the screen. This was the inner, folding screen that failed, not a crack in the outer screen. Twice. This is unacceptable. So, just be warned, if your phone fails due to the inner screen failing, Samsung MIGHT offer to pay 50% of the repair cost. I have a new one on its way through the Best Buy Rapid Replacement program, but it cost $100. And I have had to pay this twice now. This is a technology/manufacturing issue, and they will not stand behind their product.
I just went from iPhone 13 Pro Max to the fold Z 5 but after like 10 min im having a problem with the phone getting so hot after holding and scrolling 10-15 min on social media. Is anyone else having that problem ?
Oh wow this is scary, I just went to look at these yesterday & hadn't made my mind up in getting this . Reading all these pros & cons is scaring me now. I would be using mine alot so I do not want to have this same issue.
@@PrismSoul if the person just got it new and it overheating something is wrong. That could be a defective one. Return it to the store and find out what the problem is.
Z4/5 is good phone. However, being delusional is not an option as well. Camera is " ..ok"at very best if don't have a s23u near you. For an example I use both on daily basis... and infact won't get any fold until they will get top cameras. This is the most expensive model in a lineup,it must have the best camera no matter what. Not a question. Alfo flex mode for taking pictures... well in theory yes, in practice where is spen with Bluetooth? 😂 fold is just not a finished as product...tor samsungt just lost the vision for some aspects
Well it's at the level of a 14 pro max, it's not ok, the camera is exceptional... You compare it to an s23 ultra which is by far the best photophone comparable only to a camera with1000 dollars
I like the look and the concept. The one thing and to be honest, probably the only thing that's stopping me is the fragility of the inside display. I live by the beach and spend quite a bit of time there, walking the dog etc. sand does get everywhere. On a windy day it's worse. I'm scared that the screen will be scratched up very quickly because of this. One youtuber went as far as to say you should always keep your nails short to avoid damage. I have short nails anyway but I wonder how those with long nails manage. I can't see my wife cropping her nails just use a phone. I know people will say, 'just don't take it with you' but then what's the point in having a phone.
I do understand the fear, completely. I live near the beach and take it with me every weekend. It's in my pocket on the sand, near the waves and in the beach bags. It's always getting sand in and around the hinge and I've not once had any issues yet with sand! Just my experience but I've had no issues with durability!
Literally the only reviewer to get the point of the UDC. And yes, DeX *should* be an option to use on the inner display. I have a thread on Samsung Members with hundreds of people who agree. I wish Samsung would listen.
I have it in hand, it's been 1 month the hinge is like new like I could resell it "new" no one will notice I think it's more of a problem on the z fold 5
If frequently opened daily, maybe 100 times per day, it (the hinge) will be able to last for 5 years. The hinge is good for 200k times for 'open and close' the fold. Samsung released their statement on this. You can search it up. Hope it helps.
I really like the ideal foldable phone but for 95 % of people this is not realistic in price and use ability is the seme ideal like electric car is the foldable phone and solar panel for home and many other ideal the in papers sound great on a perfect world we living in a world with many variables
The technology is simply not there yet for this application, no matter how much they hype it. There have been tons of inner screen failures and Samsung simply calls it a cracked screen and won't stand behind it. I know, I have had 2 fail since Jan 23.
I will NEVER buy a samsung fold again!!! My fold 3 (never dropped) main screen got a black line down the middle one monthe after warrenty expired (70% use was done on front screen). They didn't give a sh_t!!!
Sitting with my fold 5 now. The camera is crap if the object is moving. My daughter wanted a picture of her in air, while jumping. It is impossible to take that image without extreme blur. I had an iPhone 14 Pro before this phone, and that could take the photo just fine. Same goes for my older iPhone 12 mini. All in all: great phone, but your claims about the camera are simply not true.
This phone is scam , I got 2 Samsung fold 3 , after over one year it has ribbon cable that’s happen to all fold 3 phone , Samsung requires 400$ to fix it , it’s manufacturer defect they refused to acknowledge it , my advise stay away from
Been a note user for years and years. Currently using Ultra note 20 and due for an upgrade totally torn between the fold 5 and the oneplus open. Anyone have any thoughts? The ome plus looks amazing but worried about it not being a Samsung.
I have had two Fold 4 units fail. One lasted 11 mos and the other 4 mos, and Samsung refused to stand behind their product. They offered to pay 50% of the repair cost, but they are calling it a cracked screen, when it is a failure of the folding screen. I won't be getting any more of their products, and I have been a staunch user of theirs for years.
Samsung has to stop the over sharpening of photos. I've not been able to use my S23 Ultra because of that. I see things on the walls of buildings or grass that were not there
There is a weight distribution difference that goes with the weight too. At this level with this style of phone, you can feel it being lighter instantly. If you can't, that's why you don't have a TH-cam channel
The ZFold 5 is far from the best phone, the S23 is better than this phone, but the Oppo and OnePlus Open are far superior to this phone, stop loosing credibility
@@ljacobs357 What is the motive behind his opinion ? The Z Fold 5 as inferior cameras ( for a flagship), inferior screen, ridiculous facing screen size, poor luminosity ... No contest beaten hands down by OnePlus and Oppo. Get your facts straight
@sergebureau2225 I think we need to hold off on making judgement on the oneplus open for now, as its their first fold we are yet to see durability and reliability for the phone. I'm saying this whilst typing on a ZFold 5 but I hope the Oneplus and other fold phones are good like the Honor so it pushes Samsung to do better on their next phone.
@@sergebureau2225 Poor luminosity? WTF are you talking about? The 1plus doesn't even hit what they claim, it actually performs a bit lower than the Fold 5 on the outer and inner screen brightness. Check out GSM arena, they actually test their claims with all the numbers there. They also claimed the front screen goes down to 1 HZ, it doesn't it only goes down to 10 Hz. Ridiculous screen size? The 1Plus has bigger black bars on the inside screen because of it's form factor/aspect ratio (it's square inside). The speakers of the 1Plus are also weaker when tested. Inferior cameraas? The 1Plus shoots terrible lowllight photos and videos and the Fold 5 shoots better. Video is also typical Chinese videos with jelly and judder when panning and moving around. Again, check GSM arena with their comparison and see before spewing nonsense. We haven't even talked about the meh software that is shared between Oppo and 1Plus. Lol.

Best video about this phone I’ve ever watched.
It makes it so difficult to use anything but a fold again. It truly transforms your phone usage into something completely different.
Can you also do a review on cases for this phone with hinge protection❓
Fold 5 is phenomenal. Nearly impossible to go back to a "normal" phone.
Strength to our wallets 🤣
I stopped using the Fold 5.
Because I am too scared of damaging it because it's not durable enough to give confidence
Wow incredible video, best fold video ive ever seen!!!!
Just got the fold 5 and as a samsung power user (also got a galaxy watch, the 1st gen galaxy chromebook, and a old galaxy E tab, on top of upgrading from a Note 10+)
I gotta say its made alot of my other devices superfluous.
Would 256gb be enough and would take a while to get full for photos and videos?
No. Take 512gb
hello bro I am a long term Samsung user but not a fan boy.
Thanks Daniel!
So if you had to chose between fold 5 only or ultra 23 + tab s9, which way would you go?
If u have the money for s23u and s9 tablet might be better u save battery life on both of them. But u will be carrying both around with u. The z fold 5 inner screen is bigger then the s23u but in smaller then s9 tablet. If u really want to see the fold in action. Go to a phone store that got a live demo to try it out in the store.
tech with benefits love the name subbed instantly & liked
First time I'm using a Samsung Fold device. You need to get used to the weight of the phone. Overall, it's a good device. I'm using it since August 2023 and got it replaced three times due to the Bluetooth issue. No problem with it now. 😂
What bluetooth issue?
I have sqare launcher and apps on sidebar. Also "one hand operation +". Insanely good.
My Z fold.love at first sight l will never go back to a regular phone again
Do you use a case with the z fold 5?
I would love an iPhone with that capability, Im on iOS, but my major stepdown is the ecossystem, I almost, almost, got one yesterday
Have you noticed the crease deepening after months of usage?
Nope! It's as is out of the box!
I have had 2 fail since Jan 23.
Great review
Great vid mate
With the new zoom anyplace auto tracking will be super good, can't wait for s24 series
Z fold deserves better biometrics and better speakers
Does sand not get inside the ports where you connect to charge your phone?
I have had 2 inner screens fail due to "crack" since Jan 23, and Samsung won't stand behind them.
I am interested in this. How do I get one, and how much for it?
You mean how do you buy a Fold 5?
Literally the only reviewer to get the point of the UDC. And yes, DeX *should* be an option to use on the inner display. I have a thread on Samsung Members with hundreds of people who agree. I wish Samsung would listen.
Super helpful thanks ☺️
Can I use the spen of s23 on zfold?
What is holding me to buy this phone is the hinge durability. Its an expensive phone. Feedback on this 😊
I have it in hand, it's been 1 month the hinge is like new like I could resell it "new" no one will notice I think it's more of a problem on the z fold 5
If frequently opened daily, maybe 100 times per day, it (the hinge) will be able to last for 5 years. The hinge is good for 200k times for 'open and close' the fold. Samsung released their statement on this. You can search it up. Hope it helps.
@@_unohu thanks
I really like the ideal foldable phone but for 95 % of people this is not realistic in price and use ability is the seme ideal like electric car is the foldable phone and solar panel for home and many other ideal the in papers sound great on a perfect world we living in a world with many variables
The technology is simply not there yet for this application, no matter how much they hype it. There have been tons of inner screen failures and Samsung simply calls it a cracked screen and won't stand behind it.
I know, I have had 2 fail since Jan 23.
Underated review
I can never go back to regular S Series after using the Fold Phones.
Love your work
What is the Z Flod 5 storage capacity?!
Thanks you convinced me to get this titan lol not that I need it as I have the 23 ultra but why not 😂
Another great video.
I will NEVER buy a samsung fold again!!! My fold 3 (never dropped) main screen got a black line down the middle one monthe after warrenty expired (70% use was done on front screen). They didn't give a sh_t!!!
I had two Fold 4s fail in since Jan 23, and they won't stand behind them. I have purchased my last Samsung product.
I would say its hard to beat Honor for taking pictures of moving objects.
Mine is getting there... you may need to go to the settings to change the duration of post photo processing
This phone is scam , I got 2 Samsung fold 3 , after over one year it has ribbon cable that’s happen to all fold 3 phone , Samsung requires 400$ to fix it , it’s manufacturer defect they refused to acknowledge it , my advise stay away from
Same here with the 4.
@@ken481959 Wow that is really messed up and I dont blame you. Think I will stick with my current phone its almost fully paid off finally lol
Just traded my iPhone 14 Pro Max for the food five can’t wait to have it iPhones were getting boring
Z fold 6 comes out next month unless you dont care you should of waiting till it came out than bought during the price drop or even get the z fold t
Samsung has to stop the over sharpening of photos. I've not been able to use my S23 Ultra because of that. I see things on the walls of buildings or grass that were not there
Unless the folding screen isn't gorilla glass then I'm not buying folding phone ever.
The folding screen isn't gorilla glass
I regret buying the Fold 4.
Best buy and T-Mobile not selling it anymore because too many returns.
This can replace a laptop and tablet
This eat a laptop ans a tablet for the dessert 🥰
Depends on your use case. No way is this replacing a laptop for heavy lifts!
I just want to emulate ds games and this is perfect
You don't even know. Maps and Spotify go hard

There is a weight distribution difference that goes with the weight too.
At this level with this style of phone, you can feel it being lighter instantly.
If you can't, that's why you don't have a TH-cam channel

OnePlus open completely crushed Samsung fold
Yeah right 😂 if your on a budget.
Someone has been listening to all the TH-camrs OnePlus paid to hype up the phone 😂😂😂
@@Gamer_85very true
The ZFold 5 is far from the best phone, the S23 is better than this phone, but the Oppo and OnePlus Open are far superior to this phone, stop loosing credibility
Your opinion, not his.
Lol.
Your opinion only. I love the s23 ultra but i much prefer the fold.
