"dropping everything to focus on 12 rotor" "dropping everything to get ready for the race" 2 rotor 2200 haha
Only working on the 12 rotor. Lol
Underrated comment. ❤
And then you watch those other two videos and wonder.. what did u just watch lol
you have to wait for parts etc, doing those times it wouldnt make sense to not woork on what you have that can be done. if im waitng on stuff for my 240 i cant get locally i work on my bike build or my police scat pack. doesnt mean the 240 isnt still the focus
I couldn't help but notice an invoice dated Nov. 7th 2023, so I'm guessing this video has been around for a little while before the 12rotor plan and Pikes Peak news.
At this point Rob can definitely take apart a Rotary engine blindfolded....
Except for that he fucked it up when doing it
How are you gonna fuck up the thermal pellet?
Have you ever considered drilling small diameter holes under the apex seals into the rotor to get oil supplied under pressure under the apex ?
Rob can probly smell what type of apex seals they use
Yeah, that's easy. Putting one together blindfolded would impress me. 😂
only Rob would upload at 10:30pm
Only 1930 here in New Zealand. But we are a day ahead
It's 13:36PM here
6:30am here in the UK
It’s 1:30 am for me lmao
1:30 am in New York
Nothing gets me out of bed faster than Rob Dahm uploading at 12:30AM Minnesota time
Fellow Minnesotan! Good on you. Fix your sleep schedule tho.
Lmao same here😅
Me as well. Lol Too warm anyway, cant sleep😂
it's 1230 pm in here 😱🫣
Helps my night shift go by...
Rob: So I've flattened a seal.
Japanese sailor: First time?
This hurt to laugh 😬😂
39:56 Rob you have it backwards. Those two throttle plates on that FD UIM are for the Double Throttle set up. They don't actuate at low rpms as you think. They work based on engine temp and stay closed full time until the engine comes up to a safe temp. Mazda did this to prevent the engine from over boosting when cold. The factory throttle body itself has the delayed opening of the secondary throttle on top that feed the secondary runners separately. So on the FD, at very light throttle, the top two plates are closed and then slowly open with more throttle.
Now the #1 reason you have low end idle/drivabilty issues with open UIM is because those manifolds don't separate the primary from the secondary. The open chamber to both runners slows down the air flow substantially, which makes it turbulent. That inconsistency of flow also keeps the fuel from automizing. Also, remember that the secondary runners opening timing on the plates has a slight over lap on the intake side. That doesn't help flow on the bottom end either. I'm an NA guy who builds my own intakes, so you have to have an understanding of flow. My NA 20b has secondary throttle plates that open at specific rpms to help drivabilty. You can hear how smooth my engine sounds on my starter upgrade videos for reference.
@RobDahm look at this one
I’d post this again on his next video if he doesn’t see it^
What was backwards? They way you explain it is more or less the same way Rob explained it...
@LeftysRule22 On a stock FD upper, Rob thought those two upper butterflies actuated on and off depending on throttle position/rpm. Those particular two throttle plates only stay closed when the engine is cold. Once the engine is warm, they open and stay open continuously. There is no open and shut with engine rpm on the factory setup like he was claiming early on. The throttle plates on the throttle body itself have delayed mechanical opening. Now, once he put back the FD UIM on that new machined single throttle body, he was able to use those plates as secondary shutter valves. I was just explaining that those plates don't work that way on the factory car like how he's used them in the video.
@@rotaryperfection He was just demonstrating the concept because his throttle body doesn't have the second butterflies.
I'm busting ass trying to get my $1500 85' RX7 build done before Pike's Peak to drive it out and watch you.
Never worked on a rotary before, bought a trashed engine and a $300 roller, teaching myself everything to rebuild this shitbox.
Never seen any race in person, this needs to be my first ever. Can't wait to see you and your build in person.
Keep this stuff up, love your work and your character.
That’s epic
You are taking on pleasure of life...... while having moments of pure madness. Welcome!
I just got my 86’ running, are you in Colorado? Hit me up if you need some help!
HELL yes brother, get that car done! You can do it 💪💪
godspeed brother
As a machinists seeing full speed rapids and lack of use of single block is giving me anxiety. If we are really watching the first time run of new programs.. one day it isn't going to go so well and you're going to learn the purpose of rapid override and single blocking. Been a machinists for 20 years and I'm currently the main programmer/operator for all the 5 axis in our shop, It's not IF you crash the machine, its WHEN you crash the machine.
I watch Rob Dahm since his Detroit days, and I really gotta say Rob changed a lot on his approach of modifying car, from absolutely butchery to absolutely professionally crafted! I admire your ability to change & getting rid of the old stuff too.
Late night Rob post
I’m here for it
Only weird rotary things happen at night haha
18:01 Daaayum that technique! Watching a master at work. 🙇♂
sheeeesh i was about to say the same thing, no beginner know how to put their hips into it like Rob does.
So happy to see Isaiah again! Watching this master work his art is amazing
Yah same 😂
I still want to see him put a three-rotor in the RX-8
The fab guys really make these channels special! Isaiah , Tye from Cleet, Wyatt from BosstedBoyz
@@marcopoloonpollo5937 100%. I still have hopes of seeing the rx8 get redeemed
Wohooo, isaiah is back brothers
Been waiting for this since the instagram tease!
X2
I saw your insta post a while ago asking for applications for a fabricator, then Isaiah stopped appearing in the vids. Glad to see he's back, I was getting worried!
The first part of the video was old, the second part was newer. Hence why Rob was welding. I don’t want to speculate but just pointing that out
Stoked on the FC getting some love! Rob though, PLEASE start using the single block function on your CNC, which pauses after each line and use the feedrate knob! I used worked as a CNC machinist for around 5 years and you basically ALWAYS want to use single block on a fresh setup and fresh code, then use like 5-10% feedrate to get in close to your part. Once you see that it's not going to crash and looks good, slowly crank it up to 100% and listen to it to make sure everything's good. After the line of code finishes, hit your next line at 0% and slowly bring it up, then hit it to 100%. I get time is money, but sooner or later you'll put that poor HAAS out of commission going full bore every time. If you don't feel you have the time to babysit the machine through all of that, at the very least do that at the very beginning when you're moving 10 inches per second, or whatever. At a slow cutting reedrate you'll fuck up the part or the tool at worse probably, but at the beginning going that fast and crashing hard can do a lot more damage than that.
With that said, you're doing fantastic work with that thing, especially with not slaving it out in a traditional shop and learning on the fly!
The FC is finally faster than the rotary corvette, justice served.
ive never watched one of your videos 1 MINUTE after posting. glad i was here early. Love ya rob, thank you for proving to me that anybody can do anything that they set their mind to.
It's been a real pleasure watching your channel grow, I remember watching videos about getting more comfortable with the camera, how you afforded a Lamborghini, and other random content.
The fact you're still so excited to learn AND to share your experience(s) with us is amazing. Thank you for taking us all on this ride!
I had a '91 RX7 NA version I bought new and it was a joy to drive especially with it's road handling capabilities. Idling oil pressure was 64 psi. It pulled strong as a mule all the way up to 100 mph and the 0-60 mph in first gear was something out of this world
miss mine as well
Sold my 93 fd in high school miss it every time I see a rob video
@@ronin_117how did you have an FD in high school?
@@bentleypixel763 because they were 13k back then
@@ronin_117 how did you get 13k in high school? That's quite an accomplishment.
feeling sick, slept horribly, woke up, see a Rob Dahm video - boom, instantly my day is infinitely better.
His turbo talk boosts you.
@@phillgizmo8934 absolutely!
Doctors hate this one weird Rob Dham trick.
Don't forget that, while the plugged O2 sensor might last longer, the sampling delay will be significantly larger too. Those extra holes will allow the gases to quickly vent right through it, but with only 1 hole at the top, the new gases passing by will have to first mix in with the old gases that sits in the little chamber before it can be read accurately
I'm always impressed with the amount of genuine engineering Rob does for his builds.
My mans welding skills are imaculent.
FabDaddy with that clutch extraction!
Amazing work. Really appreciate your knowledge and your willingness to share it.
I've spent my life in the wrong areas, doing the wrong things. Time to make a change. Thanks for the inspiration
Man that is super light weight 😮 power to weight is wild. I was hanging around at laguna seca while you fixed the break solenoid but missed out on meeting you. My brother did get to those keep it up rob
That came out stronger than expected!
Always love a bit of FC action, also happy to see Isaiah again!
finally you took on what bumps/PK has been yelling for years . secondary throttle delays when set up as boost /load only is a huge win . and 2.5 inch pipes support 650 hp
Pro tip: get yourself some FUPA cups for your tig. Makes aluminum welding 100x nicer. They're from Furick and they sell a really nice kit that should fit your CK worldwide torches. Total game changer for aluminum welding.
Your build videos are very clear and concise. I've never worked with rotaries, but you have it down to a science. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what it can do in a 1/4 mile.
Loving these videos, really shows the ins and out of the rotary engine and how good they can be with a little work.
I gotta say, the B roll is so well shot it feels cinematic. It's been that way for a while, but the panning and rotating shots in this one are so smooth!
That intake information is so useful even applying it to my holley on a 12a all year I was try to get the dead smooth idle the stock nikki has but I probably never will be cause the holley is just flowing so much more air at idle than is probably 100 percent efficient. It's cool for you to share your information and help out us little guys that don't have access to what you've created for yourself. Thank rob keep it up man.
Awesome VID Sir R.D . U ALWAYS CATCH My att. Your team IS TOP NOTCH. Thank u
So good to see the FC getting some love, I absolutely love these cars!
Absolutely amazing work and a crazy amount of power for a 2 rotor! Congrats!!!
Rob at 33:37, I hate when people say they're making more power with less boost. then Rob at 33:56 so I'm making more power with lower boost. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
i love Rob.. he's like a mad scientist that just sees things differently than most techs.. i wish him and VIN would collaborate on some projects - my fav youtuberz!
Rob uploading for the East Coast... of Australia! Thanks from Australia, Rob!
Once again another well made rob video with amazingly paired music.
Dahm is a true gear head cause none of his projects are ever finished lol. Always room to make it better, faster, stronger, and to learn.
Just love how Rob explains everything. It mind blowing.😄👍
glad to see the FC getting some love!
Wow... That's really impressive numbers.... Rob is definitely a rotary guru!
I never expect middle of the night uploads, but I always love them.
Rob man you can really do it all. Such an inspiration 🥹🫶
Wow, amazing work! so much knowledge
Rob, you have a great team!!!
Great video, as always! I LOVE that fc. I sold my last rotary mazda in 2010 (fb Rx7). I recently picked up an Rx-5 cosmo, and then in the dyno scene, I see one on a lift.😯
I love the little montages of Tig Daddy with the smooth music ❤❤️
1:08 I LOVE how preverted you are its great!!!🤣😂 "Professional Prostate Exam" 🤣
so glad you still upload. i remembered you out of nowhere
We know the crew have mad fab skills, but can we take a moment to appreciate the camera work? Amazing production too!
Rob and the boys. I have to say your channel is in my top 5 that I always check for a new video on. It's so cool to watch what you do and has inspired me to buy a classic Toyota and fit a 13b as my first rotary powered car. I'm not sure if you have any video's but I would love to see a NA build series that shows what needs to be done to get the most out of a NA build.
Great job! Learn't a lot from this video!
Thanks!
I love this style of video just huge progress on one car love it
For cleaning the coolant passages and stuff in the rotor housings.... I use various bore cleaning tools on a dremel with a mix of detergeants.
"What does this mean? It means you need a THIRD o2 sensor." Words to live by! I'm hoping to get my own FC and learn to work on these beautiful machines this year!
Wow that thing is wild! Must be insane to drive with that power to weight ratio. I always liked the fc more personally so im glad to see it back making content.
Thank you for giving me motivation to work on my Turbo II
Man... I feel like this will be a missed detail. That segway into AG1 was flawless and a really apt description.
I'm always down for a late night episode of Rowdy Rob's Rotary Radventures 🤘
You are the dividing line between built and bought. Rich enough to afford the best quality parts and vehicles, but smart enough to make them better with the help of your team.
Nice job in building the S4. Looks like the rear plate won't crack when done right.
Somewhere there's an FC patiently waiting for me to acquire it....... Keep up the great work!
Hey Rob, I saw you measuring your wires with a tape measure. Just stick a steel ruler (1meter/2meter) to your shelving unit then you don’t have to hold the tape all the time.
I swear, watching someone make a rotary work is like watching someone try and qualify for the pole of the Daytona 500 with a flathead Ford. I give Rod a lot of credit but it's amazing to me how good a modern EFI system on a 4 stroke works in comparison.
I'm so happy to see a FC get some love
It’s 2:26am on the east coast, I’m stressing about a flight in 10 hours, but the first 8 seconds of this video put the biggest grin on my face and I gotta say thank you!!!
That harness that you clipped could be reused with a nice bulkhead connector, keep ya from running whole built harnesses through the firewall again
This is kick ass watching you guys custom fab parts in youre own shop. Every car guys dream!
Isaiah Saved the engine 🙌🔥
Oh the sweet sound of daddy dahms rotory to lull me back to sleep at 1am
Micromanaging every single aspect of an Engine always makes me happy.
My NSX needs some of that love...but no one around here knows how to do it...and im just trying to get a more smoother passage between gears😭😭
Love to see the FC getting some love!
please more 12 rotor vids rob PLEASEEEE I NEEDDDD
It's insane seeing how much Rob has learned over the years!
28:23 That throttle body came out cleeeeeaan! I’m loving this video so far. All the fab work, wiring, detail things. Fucking love it man! MORE!
50 MINUTE VIDEOS ARE BACK HELL YES
We still need a crazy Dahm-style 1-rotor!
i'm amaze by the possibilities of using a CNC, good job guys
This dude having to upload right when I need to sleep for work is the best and worst thing
Funny on my semi pp build that I’m working on I’m doing a similar trick using the FD manifold with the butterflies and then a dbw throttle bodie. Thanks for doing the research for me 🤣🤣🤣 keep it up brotha 🤘🏻
Hey Rob, been watching ya for a bit, we need longer vids like this one, thank you, also this build reminds me of my geo prizm
My favorite car in the fleet, love the video Rob!
Well, at least I know you're my #1 Fan, Rob. Thanks for taking the time to prove me right.
efficient power is sooo satisfying
It's almost like dieseling at idle with those full open manifolds definitely a good observation and something to look into and experiment with for the future
Awesome work!
Rob Dahm, you get to do some of the neatest stuff!
I absolutely love seeing my old girl getting all the love! 👍🏽👍🏽
We use the Rear turbo oil drain on my wifes FD for the right hand side breather, on my FD we use the location of where the OMP usually is but is gutted not. We run a -10 line like we do from the oil filler side
Love the lower intake adapter. I’m not sure per runner O2 sensors will work correctly when they are installed in an environment with 900 degrees and 4 atmospheres of EMAP. Also I flattened corner seal springs around 10 years ago. I was using E85 fuel + water injection and experimenting with ‘lean’ air fuel ratios looking for power on a small turbo setup. I attributed it to detonation resistant fuel and very hot EGTs.
out of all the youtubers you are the one that is making me want to buy ag1. love your vids man
also where can I buy all the wiring supplies like the connectors and such. I'm dying to make my own custom harness for my ls swapped 240
Darude, sandstorm!! My respect for Rob has greatly increased 👍👍
I bought a sample of AG1 I didn't like it until I hit it with the Soda Stream and added some arborvitae which is my usual heath and joint supplement, the two are actually perfect for each other in amounts that don't exceed certain vitamins.
Love that eclipse in the back ❤
Just fyi, if you turn the ac frequency up on your tig welder, not only will it make it easier to weld but also clean the metal better making the weld look a lot better.
That's a beast bro 💪🏽
