2 days back to back? Awesome
Has to pay for all that titanium!!!!
+1
Cranking hard for PP
look back at it
Hey Rob, here’s some HUGE advice as an aerospace engineer who works on jet turbine designs.
Seeing an exhaust header gap/overlap (@ 10:50 mark) THAT far off will honestly be a host of turbo efficient tuning problems. Especially that close to the turbo.
- Say that manifold, at the collector, has an inner diameter of 4 inches(101.6mm), or [y].
- That overlap is at least 2mm(on both sides, and top and bottom), so there’s at least 8mm total lost from that collectors full circle not being smooth, or [x].
- What you just lost as [x] from [y], we can now solve as a %, of air now creating turbo lag, or [z].
[x] / [y] = [z]
[8mm] / [101.6mm] = [7.87%]
You now have lost 7.87% of laminar air flow per 2mm overlap on that manifold, that’s now creating turbo lag from turbulent air flow.
And seeing as how that overlap is on all 4 sides of the manifold’s collector(both sides and top and bottom), all 4 sides together, you now have 31.48% ([z] x 4) air creating turbo lag each exhaust pulse/rpm in that manifold at a certain rpm(most likely lower rpm’s).
The more rpm’s, the higher that turbo lag % grows until air flow becomes too strong, forcing air flow to become more laminar again(most likely higher rpm’s).
TL;DR,
Laminar (smooth) exhaust air flow leaves the engine and becomes turbulent (not smooth) air flow because the manifold gap/overlap at 10:50, thus creating roughly 31% turbo lag at a certain rpm.
A great example of this is porting/polishing engine intake/exhaust parts. You want laminar flow going in and out of an engine, especially into a turbo, no matter the size.
Destin from SmarterEveryday agrees that laminar flow is the best 🤣
Seen this overlap also and it's a big no no. So easy to fix before welding. Just weld where it's flush then a few taps of a hammer where it needs to go in.
Now that is a comment! 👏🏻
I know very little about exhaust building and the like but I'm glad my instinct of thinking it was too big a lip was correct. Thank you
+1 hope he sees
This is nuts, never seen an exhaust that beautiful before.
Kji🎉k ih k🎉 1:21 ul kikk🎉kk😂🎉j

Bro, how do you have an 18 hour old comment on a 1 hour old video?!?!?!?!
@@makinwaves8147he’s subscribed to his paid stuff, they see videos early
@@makinwaves8147probably a channel member
between moving the engine back and the way theyre doing the exhaust the cabin is going to be 1,000,000 degrees. RIP Rob
Going to need a turbo blanket for the whole firewall 😅
He just needs an air conditioned race suit
The secret is that he needed a way to keep his massive balls warm.
Yeah, it's probably gonna be a lil toasty in there... 😅
Don't forget the oil tank too 😄
Love to see Shrobs in the shop, he's so talented and one of the best dudes, all around, hands down. Stoked he had a hand on this thing!
Excited for you all, can't wait to see how Pikes Peak goes.
Hi mike!
I connect with Rob a little too much. Procrastinate/last minute decisions -> stressful crunch -> perfectionist tendencies battling with "fuck it theres no time" leads to things like bespoke, incredible titanium exhaust and questionable body work 😂
Rushing a car build for pikes peak makes no sense imho. He changed a lot of things, from suspension to engine and chassis. I just hope nothing bad happens!
@qwe4dsffe745 When you got the ADHD brain it doesn't make sense to most folks. Compulsive decision into short-term obsession is pretty much how I live my life. A 1/4 project at a time 😂
Same. I have adhd so I suppose it makes sense, you basically described it for me.
Body work and paint is always optional lmao
@@qwe4dsffe745 I assure you, Rob is far from the only one. Being prepared isn't the most common situation outside of professional level motorsports lol.
13:46 that is the stance of a man who knows what he is doing
I was gonna say power stance haha
Def, got have a stable stance when you weld.
13:45 Jack Black would be proud of that power stance
Bert should be the mascot for the Thicc Bois Racing Team
man, the welding is super satisfying to watch, too bad everything's gonna be covered up. Good luck on the race!
Why nobody makes body parts of transparent plastics. It's popular in PC building, why not in cars.
Barely one minute into the video, and there's already a Grade-A pun from Joel (the camera guy). Well played, sir. 👏👏👏
Hey Joel, huge shout out for including the music in the descriptions! I know you've been doing it a while now but thank you!
Rob startin a fabdaddy sweatshop over there xD
Absolutely love watching Isiah fabricate an exhaust, every time!!!
Rob, I'm just as proud of you for you being a decent human being as I am of your car related achievements. Letting the mouse go really speaks to you being a good person. Wishing you the best in the future and lots more achievements to come!
Humans are so many contradictions walking around ,save a mouse , build car that when it starts up two legged mice die of fright ....
No one can end a video like Rob. Even mid-measure on the background music.
10:06 turn up your back purge and it will flush your weld on the inside
Isaiah’s fab work is unreal, that whole section of him cutting up the passenger floor is so sick with the music going!!
Yes! MORE VIDEOS. Thanks Rob! This build is so insane. If you want to save more weight, you should adopt some of what promod cars do. Use titanium for interior paneling and some other small parts. Really stoked you used that header shielding. Idk why other people in the automotive TH-cam sphere don’t use it more often. For the love of god Joel, do an outro lol
No, its tradition. Mid-sentence exit's are what we have leaned to love 😜
I can’t wait to hear this titanium rotary boom tube
My Zen moment for the day: Isaiah cutting and welding. That exhaust channel looks so good
>-> are we getting more consistent Rob Dahm uploads now??
Nah, probably just last minute crunch stuff
No
Nahh once pikes peak is over he has no deadline and it goes back to normal
The only thing you forgot on the exhaust is expansion bellows (think aircraft bleed air ducts). It will prevent cracks due to thermal expansion of the tubing.
I’ve seen exhausts fit perfectly and grow way out of shape when heated pretty crazy to see
The vibes are pretty dahm vibrant in this one.
I hope through all the rushing and chaos you guys can take a second to realize how truly incredible what you're doing is. I've been watching you build these cars since before i could drive and I'm in awe of how far you, the shop, and all of the projects have come. It takes a special person to dedicate that much time, knowledge, skill, and attention to detail to all of these different systems and to see a shop full of those people just getting shit done and proving that nothing is impossible is just inspiring.
13:47 He struck a pose for the logo on his new fabricating shoes😂
Isaiah is looking like Super Saiyan Gohan in the hyperbolic time chamber 🤣!
This means so much to me I’ve been working on that anime hair 😂
@@FabricationFather 🤣 great for you good sir!
Isaiah is so fucking smart man, he may joke about shit all the time but he legit knows how to commit to an idea when it's necessary for the system to function; def need a shoutout to titanium guy, if I could get more info on him that'd be sickk
Rotary with boom tubes! ❤
Loving Isiah's work, dude is a pro and the god-level mullet is just a bonus
Honestly this team is amazing! It speaks volumes about Rob that he can attract all these talented, hard working people who create just awesome pieces of art in every area. Amazing team, you guys are killing it.
I swear I could watch Isaiah fabricate and weld for hours....man is a legit fckng Wizard
having to work late and being blessed with two days of Dahm videos really pulls you through
Awesome craftsmanship! It looks so good besides saving weight!
I love the power stance at 13:48 !
Isaiah's hair is majestic af and im here for it
I'm happy they decided to recirculate wastegate back in. Open wastegates on the rotary are especially bad sounding. 6:15
Wow. That is incredible. This whole build. Really rooting for you Rob and team. I'll be sporting my Ahura shirt on race day for ya.
I dunno what the team is running on... but it aint sleep... good luck guys....
Thank you for posting the music you use - digging one of these tracks so it's nice to have the name.
Loving the uploads back to back....these deadlines be good for the channel and much appreciated.🎉
Rooting for you from the Netherlands! Defo gonna tune into the PPIHC livestream, even if it's at a (not so) ungodly hour here!
2:03 AYOOO
That exhaust is a work of art. And shout to home boy cutting into the car, AGAIN, and creating that tunnel for the exhaust. These guys are a blast to watch work and solve one-off problems they create for themselves.
I love it !!!! 2 videos this week . You could post anything daily and I watch it but I know how hard content is to find make and edit but thank you for another video this week. 😊
The level of welding in this exhaust is amazing, thats a great team!
High quality ti welds pretty much all of it is colorless even though it doesnt have to pass cert. I've seen other big shops not shield it that well but it still works.
All of those sections of exuast will actually help the airflow stay away from sticking to the walls of the tube it will act like a helmholtz resonator 👍 that exuast is a work of art 🎨 👌
21:47 8===D
So much respect for you after seeing what you did for the mouse! Great job 🙌
I love these rapid short update videos.
We need to buy more rob merchandise to fund his builds so we get more content.
I Love Isaiah! he is definitely one gifted brother.
Rob your so lucky to have isiah dude is worth his weight in gold.
Isaiahs waterfall is gorgeous.
Marvellous. Next step in future project, 3D Scan of car and parts, to match everything perfectly prior obtaining (no trial and error any more). Or something like thermodynamic calculations. Now "only" pipes are made to fit, without knowing how this changes the flow behaviour of the air and the thermal load of certain places. But already insane level!
That is one amazing exhaust pipe build and should sound AWESOME! Cant wait to hear it screaming up Pikes Peak!
no wonder why Rob needs the welders, they're doing their job as perfect as possible for a human being, even on titanium
12:30 get that man a grinder for Christmas 😂
That exhaust is a work of art! great job guys!
That is one serious mullet you're growing there 😳
You know, some amount of turbulence in your exhaust system can be beneficial.
It seems counter intuitive, however, air will stick to highly polished smooth surfaces.
This added friction can work to slow down the fliw rate.
Roughing up the flow surfaces a little, therefore, can work to prevent this. As such, it will work to make the air flow more freely.
They did not put "dimples" a Golf Ball for grins😂
Longer Drive Distance + Spin for draw & fade😅
The bulk of exhaust gasses aren't flowing directly against the wall of the tubing, a boundary layer forms along the surface that effectively acts kinda like a bearing surface. Smoothness/roughness of the surface will affect how thick the boundary layer is; the rougher the surface, the thicker the boundary layer(this doesn't make it "lower friction" or anything); when a thicker boundary layer forms inside of a tube, it reduces the effective inner diameter of the tube. So, in an intake manifold for instance, if you're running an intake with runners that have too large of a cross section for your engine combo, you can rough up/dimple/whatever the walls of the runners to make the intake work better for your engine combo, since it will reduce the effective cross section of the runners. But, as far as airflow is concerned, that's the only thing you're really affecting.
Outside of airflow, you absolutely want a rough intake surface if you're running a 'wet manifold', like a carb or a throttle body injection system, because the fuel will try to stick to the walls. A rough surface encourages the fuel to stay in suspension in the plenum/runners. But, as far as airflow is concerned, it just doesn't matter. This stuff has been tested over and over and over since it's always been a debate - there's never been any solid evidence that a rougher or smoother surface in a dry intake "flows better".
The golf ball dimple effect
Absolute artwork! Hard to say if it's form or function first. Great work guys.
Beautiful exhaust. Really well made. Man... can't wait to hear this monster roar up to PP.
21:42 nice art
Gutted we didn’t hear the sound ! Great to see the team in the videos
I could watch these guys weld all day
Amazing
Thats a truly piece of art, congrats to the whole team, best of wishes on the pikes race!
Rob is a chill lad.
That exhaust channel and oval titanium stuff is so sick
Titanium is used in the construction of exhaust systems in Formula One cars. It's a preferred material due to its high strength-to-weight ratio, resistance to corrosion, and ability to withstand high temperatures. Specifically, F1 exhausts are often made from high-grade titanium or Inconel, a nickel-chromium alloy known for its heat resistance and durability.
While Inconel has been the traditional choice for its excellent high-temperature strength, titanium alloys have been explored for their potential to reduce weight, which is crucial for enhancing chassis performance. However, the use of titanium in exhaust systems is not without its challenges, particularly regarding its strength at high temperatures and oxidation resistance. To address these issues, special treatments and coatings are applied to make titanium a viable option for F1 exhaust systems.
So, titanium as a metal is allowed and used in Formula One.
That exhaust is a work of Art! Especially that split!
That thing is going to sound absolutely rowdy 👌
That's some wild music to play to a dude welding an exhaust tunnel under a race car lol
That’s a good sounding MIG FabDaddy
Vid tomorrow???? Need to hear that braaappp baby! Insane progress! Everytime I watch an episode I get motived back on my car!
so much work so little time, mad respect
You never cease to amaze me Rob. I'm restarting my M50b30 stroker build to get ready for a turbo setup to shoot for 600hp. Meanwhile I'll be building my 04 f150 heritage with a boosted ford 300 4.9 and going full racecar on my truck. I guess you're stuck with me posting stupid comments on your videos for a while again.
you could make a throw away mold for ovaling the tube out of MDF that can be used in a harbfrieght hydraulic press.
Splitting 20b exhaust to duals is tricky. I put in a center divider in my straight pipe before the Y to get perfect 50/50 separation. You get nice even pulses from both sides with no weird resonance or sounds. The flames should also split evenly.
Let's go love the back to back episodes
As soon as I saw the exhaust fit up into the car I went “holy hell it looks painted on it’s so perfect”
21:44 Definitely spotted a foreign object drawn on the metal plate 😂
Can't wait to see you at Fan Fest in Colorado Springs! Wish I could be there for the race but they jacked the prices up bad this year :(. Hope qualifying goes well!
making a pipe oval is really easy
just use some 2 rond bars and stick the inside the pipe and than make a mechanism to push them away from eachother and use some pressure from the ouside in the middle to help the pipes make the oval
Awesome as always
Yeah, Awsome. And we get to hear it tomorrow? This is one hell of a teaser if I ever seen one.
I wasn't ready for it to end!
WOW. That’s an exhaust! Amazing.
You guys are absolute maniacs. I luv it.
I dont know what Im talking about but making the bolts holes oval or open on the header, will help with the installation or remove of the header.
Rob will just geek out on absolutely every part of a car it seems
Thank you for the video updates two days in a row.
(Fc from thailand)❤
This channel is my shit. I’ve been here for years and it just gets better and better
BACK TO BACK!
I thought I'd have to go weeks before an update
2 dinners with the 3 rotor in a row
🙏
Wow.. absolutely in your craft
Rob,your a tubesteak.
Awesome craftsmanship all around.
Gosh that exhaust looks amazing
Hell yeah Brother Man team work!
2:41 Thats a very nice hat ❤
That titanium "impossible" exhaust is truly a work of art. Flood that gas babyyyyyyy! Hope it's not too tinny, titanium exhausts can be very tinny.
Sure is nice to see passion for the art. Unbelievable team of misfits! God speed Team Dahm
