I love Clapton too. When he's having a good "guitar day" I struggle to think of anything that sound as good. At least to me. Sometimes mr. vamos does kinda the same for me. This song definitely does not translate to the stage. The studio version, with its electronic beats and loops, is such a thing of spartan beauty, which perfectly matched the solemn darkness of the lyrics. This generic "rock" arrangement just has no nuance or subtlety at all. It's a bit too feel-good for such a dark song.
