    Oh my wife's gonna love the Trail Hunter! It's gonna look so good in the Trader Joe's parking lot. And the line to pick my kids up from school. But when it comes to actually hitting the trails and leaving cell phone service... I'll be taking the 5th gen.

    I don’t feel the interior is nearly as refined as the 5th gen, it was always a more premium feel. I’m not sorry I got my 5th gen knowing this was coming out.

      When the world says they want a new "interior" all they're really saying is they want a larger touchscreen.
      Design, fit & finish, or quality is not what they want or what they're truly asking for.
      Just the screen and some disco lights is what the world calls "modern."

      LOVE my 5th gen! She's a beast. So solid inside and out. Let's face it, the interior of a vehicle is half the daily experience. I wouldn't be satisfied with a flimsy feel. That would be a huge let down for me.

    Turbo: needs oil changes 5,000 miles, as it runs 15deg hotter.
    Only last 80-100,000 miles, as the heat hurts longevity.
    Premium fuel, in order to get the higher horsepower.
    4 cly with twin turbo mounted on top of engine, never a good long term placement.
    Talked with an retired Toyota Dealer: the dealerships got their wish, as now they have
    Engines that will not last as long. As the dealerships often complained to Toyota that
    their customers never came ‘back’ to the dealership, resulting in less profit per vehicle.
    The forgot to ask their customers, forced by govt to put in smaller engines, that needed turbos to
    get the horsepower up with high octane gas. Been a mechanic, had Toyotas for 25 years,
    Saddened, now driving a Acura MDX, reg V-6, has much less parts and runs well.

    I love my 4 runner because it runs through town like a can & I can park in the compact car parking spots.
    then I can go off road or on the beach without needing a different vehicle...
    I got a plain white SR5 4x4 & it goes anywhere I need to go.
    camping ,hiking, fishing, beach. hunting. sunday driving down to san francisco for a festival or music in the park , snow , mud, grocery store, the mall. fast food drive thru's, & will get 22 mpg on the freeway going long distances but about 16 in town...
    only upgrade was some 10ply E triple snow flake mud and snow tires with 75,000 mile warranty.

    Thank you for this vid, really appreciate the point of view of a current owner. While I love the design language of the new Toyotas, I think we are all waiting to see how these new drivetrains turn out in the wild. One thing to point out: I’m happy to see Toyota kept the rear window movement, was pretty bummed when the LC300’s lost the split rear hatch.

    Great review but the big thing will be price and reliability. Since the prices have come out for the Tacoma TRD Off Road Pro and Trailhunter, with both starting around 65k for no add ons, then the 6th Gen 4Runner TRD Pro will be around 68 to 70k with the Trailhunter being around 70k or more. So now the middle trim Land Cruiser looks pretty good and the Gx550 Overtrail is looking damn good.

  • @mrvang8077
    @mrvang8077 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    To think by putting in a smaller engine it would give you better fuel mileage,but it just give an even worse gas mileage than the V6. So NTY! I'd much rather stick to the V6 NA.

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yea this will be literally the same fuel economy as the V6 maybe +/- 1 depending on how you drive

    • @mrvang8077
      @mrvang8077 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Just imagine going 70 to 85mph down the highway and you seeing that fuel gauge slowly going down. The longer the travel the faster you'll be looking for a gas station instead of getting to your destination. I already witness upfront with the new 2023 Subaru awd Outback that I rented from a Enterprise. It was so bad I swap it out to a more fuel efficient car after just 2 day. No way I was gonna spend $100 for fuel after just 2 day. This new 4runner is NOT a good investment period. And the saying for turbo engine, they burn oil faster than that 5000 mile oil change interval. More like changing oil every 2500 miles. And if you're very bad at routing maintenence that could spell a dead car after 2 years or less depending on how often you drive. Just looking at it in the video here on this new 2024 4runner I can already see SO MANY things that just never look right let alone made any sense with all of those features. This is the type of vehicle like every other vehicles on the road that never look right with a lot of hidden problems down the line. The only thing that looks good is the new exterior look. The interior is a thumbs down.

    Im curious if the trd pro is just an appearance package again like the new tacoma trd pro and they didnt make any improvements suspension wise for high speed offroad it was made for. Example, the new tacoma trd pro has the same length lower and upper control arms as every other trim, so no increased suspension articulation for maximum wheel travel. The added width was from wheel offset and fenders which is sad.

      I am not talking about the snorkel attachment at the side (@2:49). I am referring to the vent on the hood that is permanently fixture on the hood (@4:13, on the grey 4Runner at the center - but not on the 2 teal color 4Runners on the left and right side).

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sorcererstone3303 my bad I misinterpreted.
      From my understanding, hood scoops are angled down to begin with making it more difficult for water to get in.
      Some companies have a drain to run the water out so the water coming in is very minimal and the bit that comes through gets burned up by the heat of the engine so it's a non-issue.

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      previous gen tacos and tundras were built just like the 5th gen 4runners. They felt robust and solid, their reliability was great as well. Where it's made is less of a concern, how it's made is the real concern and the thinner cheaper materials they are now using.

    • @PWCDN
      @PWCDN 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      built in Japan means nothing if they don't design for the Japanese and consume this in Japan. Even if its built well, it may not be designed well because exports are different market, different customer mentality (throw away leasing). Japan RARELY consumes big cars and if it is, they're minivans we can't buy here that are WAY HIGHER in quality than the Sienna and people use them like limos, they're most likely making this for export only. The only "SUV" I saw in Tokyo was a RAV4, usually they prefer K-cars smaller than that. Expect JDM's to be way higher quality than the exports we get (as usual). Toyota just needs to do better than Honda or Subaru, they don't see the need to be perfect anymore. Customers are drooling to buy Hyundai's for the design...Toyota is waking up to how North Americans behave.

      Lexus LS 460 until 2016 was made in Japan and it was a turd with many issues and they killed it for TTV6 which also sucked. It's not a magic bullet. Power train is crucial and the Infotainment is made in USA which is garbage.

    The one thing I was praying for (besides a manual transmission) was for them to keep it the same size or even make it smaller than the 5th gen... which of course they didn't... they made it even bigger. Fuck me. Why always bigger? It gets to a point where it doesn't even matter what fancy off road components you throw on there (for a premium price) because the truck won't fit down the damn trail. Let us remember that the thing that originally made Toyota's so good as off roaders was their compact size, short wheelbase, and high clearance. The new 4runner has none of those.

    All the new Toyota's are going to have issues. They've never had hybrid trucks and decide to release like 4-5 new ones all at once within a span of 2-3 years? You really see the new direction the new CEO is taking this company. Hybrid max is a new technology with zero proven track record. Their hybrids has never been stressed (passenger cars, not work capable vehicles body-on-frame) with a proven track record especially the turbos. Unless its the 4 cyclinder hybrid found on the Sienna and Grand Highlander, these things have yet to be proven other than brand name. Customers will pay the price for this R&D experiment

    I own a 2023 Limited. Not liking the powertrain of the 6th gen. Historically speaking, turbo requires more oil changes and more frequent maintenance. I do like the exterior design, though. If I could put a 4.0L or higher V6 or V8 naturally aspirated engine in one, I would. Both powertrain and drivetrain are still fairly new so I would not be surprised if there are more recalls like the Tundra/Sequoia/Lexus LX600.

    You are right about the quality and the lack of appreciation of good quality. The Teslas are a good example of accepting mediocrity and plastic products.
