The street food in Malaysia is unparalleled, and one of the best cities to experience the amazing flavours, tastes, and smells of the country is in Penang. We started our street food tour in Penang, Malaysia, at a shop that’s been around for over 120 years making handmade biscuits, the most popular of which is their coconut tart. We were blown away by the time and effort that goes into making this delicious and popular Penang food.
We continued our street food tour in Penang, Malaysia, trying out the best street food in Penang, like oh-jian, the famous Penang asam laksa, and the popular and famous cendol. These street foods in Penang are so strong in flavour, we couldn’t believe how tasty everything was!
To finish off our street food tour in Penang, Malaysia, we tried one of the most popular foods in Penang, char kuey teow. Char kuey teow is one of the best street foods in Penang, potentially one of the best street foods in Malaysia! With rich flavours and each portion cooked fresh to order, this delicious Malaysian street food is not to be missed on your next trip to Penang.

I'll be leaving US for PG in a few weeks... it'll be a foodie heaven on the cheap. Definitely try the mamak mee goreng, pasembur, nasi kandar and murtabak. And the varieties of nyonya kuih. Also the Chinese wanton mee, kuay chap and Penang version of chee cheong fun. Bon appetit. Oh, don't forget a nice cold sugarcane juice.

The noodles in assam laksa is called lai fun. The sourness mainly comes from the tamarind and even sour/unripe pineapples. Lemongrass is more give it a citrus fragrance/flavour not much of sourness. Lemongrass is a common ingredient in most of the curries and chili paste. That brown sugar is called gula melaka. It's actually different from palm sugar if you are to ask for it and buy it from shops. I miss Penang food! The popular stalls were soooo crowded last time. DId you try the chee cheong fun? In Penang, theirs are served with prawn paste. Also Penang rojak. Love Penang Char Kway Tiao, it is the best version.

Glad they've made it in Penang. 1st time I see Coconut Tart topped with Walnut Biscuit is a must try. Oyster pancake/omelette also one of Taiwanese famous street foods. Assam Laksa Steph had didn't had coconut milk in the broth. They finally got to my favorites Cendol that green jelly actually called pandan noodles and is refreshing dessert, and Char Kuey Teow of course and they also added green chive in there as well.

Mungbean sprouts n chinese chives are a must in char kuey tiow. I spell it 'tiow' instead of 'teow' as written locally for foreigners to pronounce it easily. Like i write for Americans 'wonton' instead of local 'wantan' to facilitate their pronouncing!
