    Pete, this is why I like your vids. Hard work, straight goods and no bullshit. Traits that are hard to find in todays world. Keep up the good work!

    It is hard work Pete as that’s how they made them. The tar-paper had pockets to keep water off the speakers if equipped. The OEM use SS screws on the outer belt molding (That is their name) but the UAW workers had 8 minutes to install rear speakers, package shelf, outer glass belt molding, and inner weather shield installed and panel. One guy one each side, the vehicle moved forward 20 feet, a rear seat was picked up on an air powered lift and placed into the car. Two guys jumped in with the bolts in there mouth, popped the seat back in place, then the seat bottom, pulled the seat belts out and clicked them in place. That is all they did their entire shift. I don’t know if their forearms looked like Popeye, or if they were just sore everyday! I watched Oldsmobile’s built in KC during the early 70’s on a field trip. The correct color interior part magically came out for each new build. Serious hard work as we get older. The inner belt molding (Window rubber strip) was inserted with the metal tabs bent over already. Something we cannot appreciate when replacing one part.
    Love the videos, learning all the time plus bring back things I forgot! Blessings to all.

    Glad he decided to stick with the OEM color and didn't change it , the first time I saw this color Blue was on my way to school, walking past the Plainview, Nebr. Chevrolet dealership, it was on a brand spanking new 1966 Chevelle Super Sport w/ black interior and bucket seats & there sticking out of the console was a shiny 4 speed shiftier. But the biggest memory of that day was, the new car aroma was so rich when I open the door, it knocked me back.
    That memory of that day is burnt in to my mind & will always be " priceless " to me. I know a small few will know what I mean.

    I've yet to see you use seam sealer on your panel seams.. I really need to see this done.. but I haven't yet seen all your vids or channels or series.. whatever.. I'll keep looking for it though as I follow along with where ever I'm at.. thanks man for being you and for being there doing what your doing

      @Ruffed Feathers >Pete has 3 or 4 videos on seam sealer he uploaded the last few years. He has one on drip rails, a Plymouth Road Runner convertible (Applied with caulking gun, bushes out w/throw-a-way bush and wax & grease remover for smoothing) and another on the right front inner fender on a Mustang that had water intrusion after a tire came apart. So, several! Just look at his channel or type it in. He has done it all seam sealer type situations, some using 8X holding power liquid nails, bushed out on the a Mustang with tire damage. Keep watching. Click like, save to a private file and share. I do. ASE Master Retired! Pete does it all.

      THAT was my MAIN question too.......ESPECIALLY those 60's colors (the poly metallics etc. YIKES!) that are KNOWN for such! PPG basecoat or not, he's a way braver man than "me" shootin in pieces. SURE looks GREAT on video though.

    hey pete, the first video i saw was you and charlie, and i didn't care for the way you talked to him but after watching the whole series of videos i understand why you get impatiant. this video is very informative as i am doing my own makeover on an 84 caprice classic, and you have really helped me out especially trim pieces, i did my first bodywork ever a month ago and prep is everything!!! i fucked up and the tailgate looked like shit, my friend liked what i did but i was ashamed of my work, but this time i got a block for sanding and an orbital sander so my bondo work is turning out to the level that i wanted

  • @SirEpifire

    Never understood why so many people (now) restoring cars want to get rid of the chrome. You look at the classics they're beautiful especially on that deep blue.

    I can make door panels those lower sail panels from scratch they get wet now out. at the shop we have black hard construction paper sheets. I guy could use thin wood from Lowes or Home Depot I make trunk panels from scratching fallow inner body curve in cardboard as tempet

    • @deankay4434
      @deankay4434 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @joey alfaro >The door panels of that era where two parts. The upper is molded plastic to make the curve into the quarter glass that holds the inner belt molding and held in place with folded metal tabs. The bottom is simple, as long as you get the right Christmas tree clips (Google it) It is made from 1/4” Masonite called hardboard. Just make sure there is a weather shield on the sail panel first. The OEM was an asphalt spray on a heavy brown butchers paper. Today, use plastic. At Eastwood, Grangers, McMaster-Carr they sell a butyl tape. Peel off the wax paper, stick it on the inner metal, the attach the plastic using a 6 mil thickness. Trim to fit. Some wrap the upper in food grade plastic wrap, then mat fiberglass followed by cloth. Use a “Chicago” screw used on belts, but attach the upper fiberglass to the bottom hardboard. It’s the best I can give you. The interior vinyl has to go over thin foam, cut for lines and glued in place with weldwood contact cement and rubbed with a smooth bone or plastic stick used in upholstery to recreate the look. They are glued but pressed together with a metal stamp and heated. Crane interiors did GM’s interiors for years. Gone forever now! No NOS. Hope this helps! Seen it done, working for GM as contract labor twice in my career!
