    First off, love this channel!!
Can you elaborate on using the "lower pitched stick" in your dominant hand?
I've never heard that before, so some insight would be great!
Thank you, and keep up the great work 😊

Thanks for the positive feedback. Much appreciated!
Your dominant hand tends to hit harder, and therefore sounds louder. Since humans perceive higher pitched sounds as louder, the higher pitch in the non-dominant stick helps to correct the imbalance that the listener hears. I'll admit that it's a small difference. But if the higher pitched stick is in the dominant hand, it makes the imbalance worse, so it's worth thinking about.
Thanks for asking an awesome question. Let me know if you have any other questions about it.

You covered every topic one could ask for. 5b is the only stick, I stopped searching 20 years ago😂. I can highly recommend Dom's Padstick for rudimental practice which is not available anymore, but just ask Claus Heßler who still has some in stock for some mystical reasons. 😂
    Great information as always.👋

Thank you! I’m a huge fan of both of those players. Thanks for the tips! (Ooh…bad pun…)

I’m really enjoying your channel. For years I played heavy oak sticks because the harder wood lasted longer. I played the Neil Peart or Ed Shaughnessy signature sticks for years. I developed tendinitis in my right hand. I switched to much thinner hickory sticks that are much more forgiving. With the softer more flexible sticks the blowback on my hands decreased significantly. I also hardly ever crack a cymbal. I avoided surgery on my hand. Switching to those light “wimpy” sticks saved my hands.

Thanks for watching! Yeah, I have definitely gone through many different models of sticks over the years. I'm currently in a, "let the stick do the work," phase, so I'm playing sticks with a little more girth, but letting them rebound a ton. In college I suffered some pretty bad elbow tendinitis, so I focused hard on getting my technique to be super relaxed and efficient. I still struggle with it a bit from time to time, but I've learned a ton. Thank you for the comment!

I started with 5Bs because as you say they are the default kit stick. Migrated to 7As which are kind of the default jazz stick. Found the Vater Fusion which is hybrid of the two and mostly use those.

Regaltip 7a Nylon Tip. They have a slight tack coating on them. They don't go flying and feel great in my hands. They don't cause wrist pain like some of the other ones do and I don't get vibration in them.

I couldn't tell you how I ended up playing the sticks I do. This should be interesting.

I have no idea what I played for the first several years. I don't think I gave it much thought until college, tbh.

For some reason I'm stuck on the promark 7A's.

Those are great sticks. I have a couple pairs that I use for jazz and lower volume gigs. They feel good, sound good, and great response.

A really good video on the topic! Not much fuzz, simple and easy! Well done! Your advice with the Vic Firth 5B´s is absolutely correct. You can't go wrong with them. BUT: Since about two years I actually use Cooper Groove %A´s and 5B´s. The shaft has grooves near the bottom which makes playing much easier for me. I learned about them through a good friend of mine who uses them because he had pain in his elbows which is massively reduced since the plays Cooper Groove Sticks. I suggest you get a pair or two of them and at least give them a try. And if you like them, don't hesitate to recommend them. 😉👍🏼

5A would be the stick I chose if I could only have one.
