I had tears when he was talking to Hannah and he said "you hear me?". He cared so much but it was just too late and he knew he failed her.

This scene brought me to tears. You feel for this guy. He knows he should have done more, could have done better, and has to live with that the rest of his life. One of the few characters I think that actually changed for the better after this experience. He’s going to be a great school counselor (haha yep I know this is fiction) somewhere else.

He's always been a great actor, ever since Antwone Fisher and Friday Night Lights over 15 years ago now. He had a good stretch on Empire as well. Idk why he doesn't land more roles. Maybe he just chooses his work more carefully than others.

Mr. Porter carried almost this entire season! Barely gave a rat's ass about the other characters and I was just waiting for him to wreck shit up. Him intimidating Bryce and then beating Justin's kinda-stepdad were the only moments that kept me going until episode 9 or 10, which is when this season really started getting (somewhat) interesting.
Rodrigo Ele Preach. kind of upset they just got rid of his character after this, but what else were they going to do with him? I think Mr. Porter and that new guy Cyrus kept me watching the series.
the actor who played mr porter in this scene nailed it to the fullest, i cried so much watching his scene in court & can't stop thinking about it re/watching it and thinking about what could have happened.

Thing is he ACTUALLY didn’t mean to let her down. He wanted to help and after what Bryce did, she was afraid to be straight to the point.
I was saying the same thing, she didn't flat out say that "I was raped by Bryce Walker" , if she said that then he would report it !! I don't think him or Clay deserves to be on the tapes
This man literally did nothing wrong and he got some bullshit tape blaming him for something he wasn’t to blame for
I don’t think Mr Porter was the main reason she died he was put on the tapes because she went to him silently screaming for help and yes she was not making it easy for him but she’s just a kid who was obviously ashamed of what had happened to her and scared of what would happen if it came out but nonetheless she needed the help or she wouldn’t have gone to Mr Porter for help and he as an adult and a counceller who should be worried for his students sorta brushed her off in the end and said “ok well this is the best I can do for you” when the whole point was that it was not enough he should’ve pushed her a little harder he should’ve probably not answered his phone when he clearly knew something was not right with her and you can tell he knows he sensed it but he still let it slide. The whole point of Hannah’s death is not to blame people but to make people reflect on their actions and how they can affect people greatly and also people still don’t do anything even if they know someone is in pain that’s why Hannah included a second tape for Justin and in a way it was hers as well because it’s about the guilt of knowing someone just went through a great deal of pain and you don’t have the heart to tell them it lives inside you and it grows and grows until you can’t bear it anymore and it destroys you.
Literally just came here to say this man’s acting in that court scene is insane, I’m a 22 year old guy and not even gonna lie that brought tears to my eyes

In an otherwise emotionally and empathically empty season, this episode brought me to tears. This felt real, and it felt relevant. Like Hannah was a real girl, with real parents, and that the grief was real. I was stunned at this award winning moment. Oh and one more thing, it brings his arc from being angry at others, like Bryce in ep 1 or 2, to admitting to his own responsibility. He took the blame out there, and internalized it. That is a satisfying end.

This is such a powerful scene. I was raped by my ex. I was passed out and my ex raped me. Everyone didn't take it seriously and tried to blame me and say it was my fault. People need to stop blaming the victim. Rape is rape. Period! Just because my ex was my boyfriend at the time, doesn't make it right. I truly loved my boyfriend and I trusted him. I had no idea he would do this to me.

His tears are genuine, and real, and raw. I share these tears with you, Mr. Porter. I cry for the people I haven’t lost yet. I still cry.
