    There are people who think that a dog's whiskers have no purpose, and are simply longer unruly hairs that are best snipped off at the groomers to make the face look neat and clean. Such people are wrong, and the surprising function of a dog's whiskers is to help to make up for the limitations in the dog's visual system.
    The whiskers above the dog's eye are the easiest for most people to associate with the visual system. These whiskers are designed so that when the airflow or some object causes the whisker to flex, indicating that something is about to impact the eye, it causes an immediate protective eye blink.
    your dog's whiskers might make his face look untidy, you should not let your groomer trim or cut them since by so doing you are actually effectively removing these valuable aids to the dog's visual system.

      I was looking for someone to comment about this. I would never do that with my pup.

      I had never seen anybody talk about trimming a golden's whiskers but after watching this video I looked into it and see that is not uncommon when showing goldens. But goldens may use their whiskers when sniffing (a major activity for goldens) and to help navigate in the dark. I'm sure the woman who made this video knows about the issue. My golden came from a conformation breeder who has had a lot of champions (including my dog's mother) and from pictures I've seen of her dogs at shows, it looks like she trims whiskers. I don't show my dog so don't have any reason to trim her whiskers.

      Judge if you want...this golden and all of my Goldens the past 24 years showed and had their whiskers trimmed before a show as expected after their 1st year, we never trimmed whiskers on puppies. I have NEVER had any noticeable differences or problems from it. My dogs were show dogs, therapy dogs and spoiled pets. If they were hunting, or working dogs, I would not trim the whiskers. Don't attack me for doing what is necessary for the show ring. If I noticed any problems from trimming I would not do it because I am a lover of Goldens first!

    The trousers is NOT trimmed on this video, though a lot of golden retrievers stain their pants when they poop. Suggestions on that? How to cut it without making a carnage in this beautiful pants?

      I would use thinning shears or a long gaurd comb to trim but still look natural

    silly question, but how do you get such a large dog on and off of a folding grooming table like that? Do you lift them yourself, or use doggy stairs?

    • @cjsmytouch
      @cjsmytouch  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      My dogs love to be groomed so they usually jump straight up on the table. This is a portable table I bring to shows. At my shop I have a hydraulic and an electric table that lowers and raises for them although they will still immediately jump up on it before I lower it

    how you can cut whiskers for your dogs this is cruelty

    • @cjsmytouch
      @cjsmytouch  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In the show ring it is necessary. It didn't effect anything she did and they grow back. If she was a working dog hunting I wouldn't do it.
