- I went to show you the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival.
Information I should have mentioned in the video, but my head was all over the place due to things going wrong all day:
The sky lanterns are where people write their wishes for the up-and-coming-year on the lanterns, then blast them up into the sky for the gods.
This is a festival that I think won't be around forever, due to the amount of people against it due to environmental damage, and the issues it causes for wild and stray animals. If you get the chance to see it, do it before it is gone.

I have lived in Taiwan for nearly 14 years now, I moved here in 2010 when I finished university, so over time I have just learnt all about places in Taiwan from living here.
I love the sky lantern festival, it is great seeing them fly up in the sky, however I do agree with people who hate them because it is bad for the environment and animals. A bit of a juxtaposition I know.
@@donmaarko again wow 😳😳 I had a friend from NZ , he love Taiwan and he also want to move and live here in kaoshiung 😍 he just finished his 環島，around the island with scooter, he love It , I believe you did it already haha
I haven’t rode around the whole island on a scooter. I’d love to though. My scooter is a mess right now, it still works but I need to find out what’s wrong with it because a car crashed into me recently
Oh that sounds bad , hope you are ok , the driver needs to pay you all the cost for fixing the scooter, you have a Yamaha 155 CC Force?
@@teyunglee6887 I have a Yamaha S Max, it is in insurance claim now, but not all the problems are covered because the mechanic said he didn't think all were from the car impact unfortunately.
I am not so sure, even if they were not caused by the impact of the car, they were made worse by it. Oh well live and learn.
The good thing is no one was injured or killed.
Will they continue to engage in this activity on February 26?
Are they going to release lanterns?
They will do it one more time at Shifen on 24th February, it’s starts at 6pm. You’ll need to look up the location as I have never been to Shifen to watch it but they’ll definitely be releasing more lanterns. That is the last time to see it until next year.
Please double check the the information before you head off there.
In Shifen on 24th feb they will release the lanterns. Don’t go to Pingxi, it won’t be there.
