Mitski breaking down every song in Laurel Hell

- As explained in the disclaimer, this video was posted by a popular music publication online, that included a small clip from one of the most offensive movies ever made, over Mitski's voice explaining the creative process behind her song "The Only Heartbreaker". When someone pointed that out, the video was deleted from their channel, and said publication never apologized about it or even acknowledged it.
I decided, since Mitski's commentary is vital to understand her album, to edit the clip out and replace it with one of Mitski's scenes in the short film "Sitting", and repost it for archival purposes + for everyone else to enjoy the meaning of her songs without being slapped on the face by a romanticized depiction of a very problematic movie.

i wish i could just watch mitski writing a song
I imagine it’s that illustration of a witch at her computer floating above a rune.
imagine her writing at 3am
@@junglejim4322yahoo“ BUT I'M WRITING THIS AT 3AM „
Me too 😭😭😭
Same
"sex, trauma, disco" i am in love with her
It's so her
the way she says 3 phrases instead of 3 words is so funny
Everytime I listen to love me more, it makes me really want to run as fast as I can. She did so well in this album.
I’ve actually used it in my running playlist before
Doesn’t it sound like maniac to you?
me too omg
it makes me envision myself running/walking away fast because the feelings are all too much. Love Me More is my favorite song in the album T-T

Whenever I hear That's Our Lamp, I picture everyone you love dancing in a room at night, but you're outside looking at them through a window.
I wonder if “I Guess” could be considered a thematic continuation of “I Will”. Where as “I Will” is singing about deep devotion to someone though it’s painful, “I Guess” is figuring how to continue on without them in your life.
But honestly I just like how the titles parallel each other haha
omg that's interesting
thats a very cool idea but i will is about how mitski wanted someone to say those lyrics to her im pretty sure, but i like this link between them!!
@@sunny-qk3uk I did know this but I feel like she could mean it two ways especially after so long. Meaning evolves
its so cool how her speaking voice sounds SOOOOO different from her singing voice 😭😭😭😭
I love how she goes over 3 words
I think she meant 3 sentences or something 😭
the queen is here to feed us once again

11:04 this quote really hits me every time. i’m extremely forgiving because i desperately wish for others to forgive me too. i know ive made many mistakes so i empathize with other people through that.
working for a knife was the first song i heard after i resigne a job i was so misserable in it. it feels magic
Mitski's eyes are the most beautiful eyes I ever saw.
One time I saw heat lightning outside my window and I was like “the hell is that” and I looked it up and I was like “Oh, so that’s what heat lightning is” and then I played Heat Lightning by Mitski and watched it for a while
Fun fact, she released this on my 18th birthday and I listened to it on repeat for so long bc many of the themes played into my life and still do to this day, Mitski will always be a huge inspiration to me
Everyone makes me laugh every now and then cuz i just think
"everyone"
"who?"
"all of them"
had to repost bc of the poor quality! i apologize
edit: please read the disclaimer at the beginning of the video carefully, i included in it the name of the movie they used a clip from bc i dont want ppl to discuss it in my comments, this comment section isnt for that. Every comment about it, would be deleted.
Thank you @mitskithoughts for giving us the content we need
If we give the original publisher the benefit of the doubt, they probably just added clips from that film by accident. It's very common for scenes from old movies to be used as stock clips without the original source being known.
With that in mind I personally feel you should at least credit the original publication, because otherwise this feels like stolen content. Someone had to book time with Mitski, prepare and conduct this interview, and edit it.
I appreciate you editing the offensive clip out and posting this, it was awesome to watch.
But it feels wrong to not credit the original creator.
@@AloKanerz this comment was extremely painful to read, omg. 1) if it was an honest mistake, then why did they try to sweep it under a rug like nothing ever happened and didnt apologize like someone who makes an honest mistake does? 2) all the ppl involved in the making of this interview already GOT PAID, even mitski herself. their time and effort is already rewarded, they would never get any more money than they already got. i dont get any monetary benefit from doing what i do, and the publication itself is not getting any benefit from it either bc those cowards deleted it completely. im not taking anyone's food from their plate by posting this but u act like i did. very "i can excuse racism but i draw the line at reposting stuff from big companies" if u ask me
@@mitskithoughts8487 the last sentence encapsulates "assuming x because i read y" mentality that is poisoning common sense today.
@@amgm1996 not assuming anything, its implicit on the comment they made. feeling mad enough to make a comment criticizing me for reposting this disregarding completely why i did it in the first place even after i explain it in the first couple of seconds of the video is ENOUGH evidence of them excusing it. and youre pretty much doing the same, shut up
i want to hear her explain everything ever idk how to explain it but she’s so easy to listen to
i just feel like mitski connects people in her music through perspectives and feelings, not leaning towards to this full-packed musical technicalities. just like what they say, keep it simple but meaty.

"unless they're geniuses" but honey, you ARE a genius
I just found out about Mistki a few months ago. I really enjoy her music. I also like the perspectives she shares in her interviews.
9:24 I thought since most of her songs are about relationships, Theres Nothing Left for You was about that too and that I just related it to my chronic pain for some reason. But finding out that it actually is about what I thought it was, kinda broke me
Oh I misread this as Mitski breaking down _in_ every song from Laurel Hell. I was like yeah I'm sure you could make a supercut of that
this really puts my life into perspective about how irrellivent my problems are compared to what they will be in the future
it feels like geyser, working for the knife and theres nothing left for you are different points in the same narrative
they are!! :) not confirmed by mitski as a whole, but separately. she confirmed geyser is about her relationship with music and her love for it as the only constant in her life, working for the knife is about exhaustion from the music industry, and writing there's nothing left for you when she thought she could no longer make music and the hiatus would be permanent
i am so glad you reposted it because i watched it when it came out and since then i kept wanting to watch it again but couldnt so THANK YOUUU
"I feel a feeling" what a icon
mitski puts the feelings ive had and couldnt describe into words and thats something that will always mean everything to me and will forever make her my favorite artist :')
Her commentary on should’ve been me is so interesting I love that one of her key words for it was Nuance.
Ty for reposting and for adding context, I had no idea why it was taken down and was sad I wouldn’t get to finish the video. Now I get to watch it without a jump scare of really gross shit from the video producer
omg. i just realized her eyes are hazel
I misread the title as Mitski breaking down in every song in Laurel Hell
That’d be Puberty 2
why did i thought this was mitski having a breakdown in every song in the album
Bro I thought that too
im so glad this video exists
mitski you are so real. i cannot believe your genius and your ability to so perfectly encapsulate so many individual experiences where we feel so alone just to feel heard and embrace these feelings with your music. MISTKI I LOVE YOU SOOOOOO MUCH you are the realest in the game
i love this album with all my heart
youre so real for reposting it without that clip thank u for ur service!!!!!!!!!!
when she said today i thought she was gonna say today i will wear my white button down
mitskithoughts thank you for doing the lord's work
knowing "i guess" was written about its own melody makes me so emotional 😭 the lyrics sum up perfectly what thats like. letting go of something that has become apart of you ..that was always apart of you ..that will live on as you. only an idea. but it grew up, and it was time for it to solidify as a song. thats so beautiful & bittersweet im genuinely tearing up 😭
A lot of the songs in this album feel like movies or like they belong in a movie. They feel like the very artsy cinematography films.
i love songs so much more when i understand them on a deeper level. this is like love squared
This video is absolutely gorgeous, thank you. May I ask how did you make that vintage edit on Sitting and maybe you know how they made those red flash transitions?
i used capcut! there isnt so much into it actually, capcut has a list of transitions and i looked for one that matched the vibe of the video (glare 2 i think, its the name of the transition), and put a retro effect on the extra clip i added using the same app :)
She's so mother
shouldve been me’s explanation is so beautiful! you can tell how much shes grown as an artist and as a person! she says that she uses forgiveness as a way of healing and that’s amazing!
THURSDAY GIRL FILM YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
12:03 finally a homeowner
oh man these explanations are so beautiful 🥹
i watched this hours ago and I can't stop thinking about the explanation of that's our lamp
THIS JUST MADE MY DAY
oh my god i loved the way she explained the only heartbreaker?!?! i have never been in an relationship before but this song resonated with me so much. it reminds me about how i feel like a burden to my friends and family and im always the one that messes things up bc im devoting so much to platonic relationships. it makes me want to suicide bc i think everyone would be happy without me but while dealing with my ideation my family and friends are also suffering.
first three words are fine, it's basically that
PLS Never delete this!!! 🥺❤️✨
HOW LMAO UR ON MY FYP, MY INSTA, MY TWT AND NOW TH-cam?

thank u so much for this!!!!
9:03 about 'love me more' 🖤✨
Thank you for this
This album is phenomenal
Laurel hell is one of my fav albums it’s her most upbeat albums and makes me want to dance lol
aw they misspelled “There’s Nothing Left For You” 9:26
it was actually released like that on streaming platforms when the album was released then they changed it so im guessing they just took the track list from google and pasted it
My queen
i love her guys
good breakdown
I Just loved it💖
Shouldve been me always sounded sarcastic to me its interesting to compare my interpretation with the song and her vision of the song
she is amazing.
diosmio como kiero a mitski
I resonate with 9:16 🥲
thank u
i thought breaking down as in she broke down crying omg
Huh
Thank you for editing and uploading this video! Btw can I ask what song(ASMR sound?) did you use at the beginning? I really liked it
It’s crazy how I totally interpreted should’ve been me differently. In my way, I think of it as a song by someone who wasn’t loved back by the person they chose so they went to find a lookalike, it’s happened to me and I’ve done it to others, I guess because I have no experience with cheating, either way it’s beautiful!
Omg i love you
5:52 maybe shes talking about lush or retired from sad new career in business 👀
9:00
confused as to why Birth of a Nation was out in the og video?? hello?
could u add the time thingys in the vid?
I wish she taught me how to write lyrics
Legit geared up at i guess
I LOVE LAUREL HELL i think it’s wayyy over-hated
She seems sort of sad in this, I hope she's doing good
i wouldnt say sad, but careful. mitski is really private about her personal life, and in this video she talks a lot about her emotions, which can be difficult. I'd say she's reflecting and choosing her words carefully.
I think in a podcast or something, i dont remember where, but I remember hearing that she wants to quit making music but she owed another album for her contract
ratings on all songs:
valentine, Texas: 7/10 (Good, but too quiet)
working for the knife: 8/10
stay soft: 10/10 (fav mitski song
Why do I feel the same way? Like, the exact same way!
omg im the 69th comment
This album is phenomenal
