Vanilla Beans are amazing. They are the fruit of a species of Orchid. They have to be hand pollinated, once every 7 months, in a 12-hour window, or they will not fruit. They take 7-8 months to mature. They are extremely picky and disease/pest prone. To call Vanilla "Vanilla" is basically equatable to calling Caviar "Vanilla".
