Nardwuar also speaks really highly of Jello Biafra's record collection. Not so much archives, just general history and music/pop culture knowledge.

I used to get like that hunting for music from Phoenix all the way up the PCH to the border. But nothing like these gentlemen.

Ian Mackaye is the only person that I’ve ever seen that Nardwuar is clearly a bit nervous when speaking to.
I remember back in the late 90's i once wrote a letter to Nardwuar's label asking to send a mail order catalog to buy other recordings & aside from the catalog Nardwuar also sent me a hand written letter using the same paper seen at 17:21. He gave me free gifts.... 3 Evaporators band stickers, a CITR radio magnet & a Hulk Hogan sports card. I still have everything, I've archived it !

Ian's really well-preserved and mentally sharp. He's a living illustration of why the straight edge lifestyle is a smart move.
There's his version of straight-edge, and then everybody else's. Someone isn't necessarily going to remain mentally sharp if they don't exercise their brain; he's definitely a big reader and thinker. Some were never sharp to begin with. There's a lot of straight edge idiots out there; they're a notorious breed, so much so he distanced himself from the term. It's even possible to stay healthy and sharp do a lot of drugs, if that's one's prerogative; it's just very often not, so those users don't study how to do that. I don't think he ever wanted to do drugs; if he ever did them, I doubt he'd advertise it (although I could swear he said in a Thirsty Ear interview ca. 2000 that he's drank a beer here and there, though don't quote me on it).

Ian is a LEGEND! I grew up in the DC area and I was too young for Minor Threat but I saw Fugazi many times....they are AMAZING!
He has always made such charged and passionate music while simultaneously being a sensitive and gentle guy. I really admire his attitude. He exudes a lot of passion and patience and is a very honest and real person, it's a rare temperament and it can sometimes feel like we're living in a world where it's becoming antiquated.

We opened up for Fugazi in 1995 at Clyde's in Columbia,SC. Prior to the show we had lunch with Ian. Truly a great guy, great stories. Nothing like seeing Guy and Ian standing to the side watching you perform then thoroughly blowing you off the stage when they came on. Great memories.

I like how Ian brings up the fact that Nardwuar is animated and aggressive in his interviews, which is his style and you either get it or you don’t and the ones who don’t are put off. I mean his interviews are all titled “Nardwuar versus so and so” which I find hilarious. I’d like to hear what he’s like off the record.
I bumped into Nardwuar at SXSW 2014. Let me just say his interview persona is only a mild exaggeration of what I experienced talking to him. He is a major, major music fanatic, and friendly as can be. Nardwuar is full of stories about our heroes going back to Kurt Cobain and is easily as big a fish as many of the people he interviews.
He gave me doot-do-la-doot-doo when it was time to part ways.

Amazing interview. We all know how much Nardwuar dodges questions about himself, I love how whenever Ian asks a question about Nardwaur that he skips over, Ian immediately goes back to the question he asked forcing Nardwaur to answer it. Lol most people would just continue on.

Ian explains exactly why it took me SO LONG to warm up to Nardwuar. His interview style is so over the top that it feels almost aggressively invasive, as if you’re expected to be aware of who is, which feels somewhat presumptuous. But once you’re in the know he makes sense; but that still feels a little unfair. But he’s Nardwuar.
So great to see Ian now. Wish he had explained the "the spot" reference. And one of those Coriky albums waiting at Dischord House is mine! Can't wait to hear it. Great interview.

The show Ian mentioned in Fredericton before Halifax, was actually in New Maryland outside Fredericton, almost across the street from the house I grew up in. It was in a rec center, and I couldn't even believe I was watching Fugazi live in this old rec center out in a rural community where I had gone to for many different things over the years as a child. My friends band was one of the opening bands that night. I grew a huge amount of respect for them that night for playing such a cheap show and where they were playing and for the most part just blending in with the rest of us.
Just a great show with no bells or whistles needed. Such a great experience. Thanks for working so hard and retaining your down to earth values over the decades.

i've lived in Vancouver for 20 years, and I worked in a restaurant, so outside of my work all i ate was Uncle Fatih's pizza by Tinseltown. And until today, even after going their EVERYDAY for many years, i thought it was uncle FAITH's. I always called in uncle Faiths!! I can't believe i've misread it for so many years.

Coriky had a placeholder release date on Bandcamp and I wrote to Dischord to ask about it. Ian personally wrote to me and explained that it was a placeholder and the new release date had not yet been decided. He’s such a great man.

This podcast style of nardwuar, i think is the ideal way of interviewing for him and it would be cool to make it more often but physically. And its amazing because Ian is such a warm interviewee and you dont see that often
Ian just seems warmer and more patient the more of these interviews he does, like a patient grandpa tolerating his rambunctious grandchild

Ian MacKaye and so many Dischord bands provided the sound track to my teenage years.. I can't even tell you how happy I am that the Dischord office still is as it always was. So much good here! And Ian is just the coolest nicest guy ever. I want to be like that guy when I grow up. Much love, Nardwuar!

I have always had great admiration for Ian mackaye I grew up listening to Minor Threat seen Minor Threat live as well as Fugazi great shows great times I even like that side project he did with Al jourgensen pailhead I also love the fact that Ian is a 30 year vegan I'm also a 30 year vegan he looks fantastic and I look forward to listening to his new music and nardwuar you're the s*** I love your show

I saw Fugazi play in Vancouver (actually Burnaby) a long time ago. Before the show Ian did the interview with Nardwuar in front of the Archery Butts. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen. They played for three hours and they played their hearts out.
