Once ran into him in Rock Creek with my toddler daughter. I said hey and told her That's Ian MacKaye, a guy daddy is a big fan of, and she said Hi, and he said Hi back and we walked our separate ways and it was just all so nice.
He was always an interesting man, but I really enjoy seeing how articulate hes become. It seems to be a thing for oldschool hardcore kids to get into spoken word after X amount of time
Because they're real, try to keep a clear view, have strong convictions and have plenty to share and teach... it's no coincidence or formula. It's their drive and almost obligation to who they are and what they value. They don't whine about the problems, they act on solutions and share the growth with anyone who's interested in being a better human.
you prolly dont give a shit but does someone know of a method to log back into an instagram account? I was dumb forgot the password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me
Sir, I'm very thankful for what you've done and what you mean to all of us. I'm a 38 year old kid who got through some tough times with your music playing in the background and I thank you for it! Sincerely, Andrew...
I wrote a letter to Ian when I was 13. I dunno what I said I think I mostly gushed about Minor Threat (hadn’t yet understood Fugazi) and he wrote me back within a week (I live in Maryland), typed with a typewriter, on the back of a Polaroid of Fugazi playing one of their last shows. Ian MacKaye rules, so earnest and endearing
Discovered Ian way too late, but much respect. It's hard figuring out how to carve your own path in the music industry. He will definitely be an influence.
Yeah I'm from white and black twins and not afraid to say I'm white not a citizen of a foreign land. I like listening to it you don't fight you try getting young kids in hate bro
Funny how his ethos is community and everybody being themselves and having space for everyone , but if you want to have a beer at a show of his you’ll get heckled and shat on. Funny how that works . “Accepting”…
Well just like you wouldn't bring steaks to a Vegans house for a BBQ. It's called respect. You have a choice, go or stay home. If you go, show respect, or don't go.
His ego is all that you should believe in IN his mind. If you don't believe in him then you are not a person worth being alive. I used to like Ian but the more I see/hear, I realize that he wants you to live the way he does... yet the man has Milllions.
That is absolutely not the message he passes forward, the way he lives is definitely healthy and good for anyone's body and mind so of course he tries to emanate that knowledge to people, but he actually does it in a very welcoming way. I'll never be straight edge for example simply because i don't want to, but i won't lie that it's a much healthier and better way to live. I assume either you don't talk to a lot of people or is lucky enough to never have had contact with someone who tries to propagate an ideology agressively
He earned his money. Nothing wrong with being your true self and believing in your morals and values. Nobody is making you listen to his music, go to his shows or watch his videos. I'm quite sure he won't lose any sleep over it.

Probably the most wholesome comment I've ever seen on this platform

Ian has always been good people. I miss the free Fugazi shows at Ft. Reno park.
I love how creatively tangential his thoughts are.

Totally influential on all the garage punk bands.Made many of my friends and i realize we had a voice and creativity.
13:54 pun successfully avoided
Whew, close one.
I think he did that more for clarity of the story rather than to avert a pun. He likes his dad puns.
My dad's drum teacher played drums for Tuff Darts!
Lmao
Totally inspiring and impressive.

I did not know that Ian is friends with Henry Rollins
DoubleBarrel2006 they worked at Haagen dazs together back in the day, you should google the pictures! So good!
There are some good Rollins spoken word stories about them.
Isaac Williams .....he and Hank Garfield were part of the same DC hardcore scene.....

That is so woefully incorrect, it's almost hilarious.
Indeed, Eric. Critical thinking is only hard when you don't want to engage with other critical thinkers.
