Looks like all the Florida locations closed down and she is still in Indiana. There's a pretty big market out for cookies. For example, Crumbl cookies came out and had absolute rapid expansion in the past 5 years and they seem to be leading the way in the industry. I personally believe her traditional look to the business is what was keeping her back in new locations, even looking at their website it still has an early 2000's feel to it and there has been no efforts to modernize the look and appeal that most younger audiences are looking for.
Omg me too. The site checks for security, only for an old html page to open. Who even designs webpages like these? But yeah was taken back to my schools days comp sci classes 😅
@@genetlemma3724 I’m not saying they aren’t successful. I am saying the look and style of the business probably is the main reason it didn’t go off in Florida and that’s why they probably haven’t expanded anywhere else in the past decade. Take a look at their website…
She should of talked about the online purchases of their cookies. I would get these in Indiana and now live in Texas. The online ordering has been great. The cookies arrive perfectly and I get an a bath of them about once a quarter. Online eliminates brick&mortar costs and centralizes the supply chain, allowing for sustainable and scalable growth.
She should've opened a pop-up location first to test the market down in FL. Not all markets are the same - it's different from West, East, South, and Midwest. I think she got too overconfident in her brand.
@romanboxing9454 she did. Frankly, I don't think her cookies sold well in FL because of the type of cookies it was. If it was in Miami, cookies tend to be more artisan, bold, and interesting. Her current cookies look dated and old-fashioned, even down to their branding - which was very grandma. It may have worked in Indiana, where the customers are more traditional.
agree- expanding too fast when unproven in that market, if 4 locations fail that can bankrupt a business or at the very least add a lot of debt, 1 location fails, you just move on and learned something at a much lower cost
@danduran4981 fast forward to now, if you read the reviews online, Blondies charges about $5 to $6 a cookie, and some are $7. The company is really trying to gain loss profits by increasing their prices tremendously. $5 to $7 a cookie is well above the average cookie price in Indiana.
Don't ever expect to get a deal from the sharks with an outrageous evaluation and $800,000 in debt. It's quite obvious Blondie was building her cookie business too fast by moving to Florida.
The logic of 4 stores makes perfect sense. It was clearly however the wrong state. You don't take junk food to a state where people go to the beach every other weekend year round. At least that's not the second location.
Should’ve opened up more locations in the Midwest, or even in Indiana, where they already know your name😢 Bet them cookies are good though 🎉🎉 Bring them to Missouri Please!
By the looks of it, they're kind of ordinary and her branding is very old fashion and traditional. I don't think it would do well, if not at all in the west and east coast markets.
The figures don't add up. How do you lose $1 million in a year (the debt, plus the operating loss) opening 4 cookie outlets in Florida? You could roll out to every mall food court in the state for that money.
It’s because she was stubborn and wasn’t really listening. Their advice was right about the Florida stores, it was the wrong move which happens but she was unwilling to take their criticism. They knew it would be tough to work with her.
I Love Cookies!❤ I eat lots of them! However, I almost never buy from specialty cookie shops. Too many grocery store bakeries produce excellent Cookies at a reasonable price. Mrs. Fields is not the example, they are a well established competitor. I am out.
The 3% of an enterprise w/ 4 locations bleeding 💰 and 800k in debt..... 200k for 3% of a better opportunity actually might be enough...but here "no offense" it's just cookies in Indiana and 4 failing ones in Florida....that's the bigger issue. Nothing special and basically underwater...from an outside investor POV....a great little family business for them
@@jeffswanson3417 yes, I assume so too... I don't think it was wise for her to expand before paying the debt off... The new branches will suffer from having to pay off a debt before they were stable...
Can someone help explaining how they came up with the valuation of 70M ? I know somehow the debt has its influence but I'm not sure how this is calculated exactly
They said 7 million dollars. The post-money valuation is equal to the investment divided by the percent equity the investor stakes. Blondie nets 3% of her company with a $ 200,000 investment, the post-money valuation is $ 200,000 divided by 0.03 = 6,666,666.666666667. Round that off, if you add the $ 800,000 debt...gives you complete valuation.

Blondie has a good heart and cookies obviously. I think she can do it well on her own over the years. Maybe 3% was little too aggressive because sharks are too big to collect just few thousand $ a year. Mr. Wonderful won’t even be able to buy his next watch even after years selling cookies 😄
Kevin can be offputting at times with his straight to the point mentality. Damn dude. let the woman finish what she's saying before hammering her about her valuation.
The issue is that the cookies don't look healthy! There's an abundance of frosting and sugars, which are already prevalent throughout the US. I've rarely seen healthy yet delicious cookies in the US. Most of them seem to be of poor quality, yet people still enjoy buying them.
