Quality Time with the Whole Elephant Herd at the Waterhole & Marula Tree!

- Carer Owen captured some beautiful scenes to share with you, starting with the herd as they stop by the dam for a morning drink en route into the bush for the day. Later we catch up with them under a large marula tree as the elephants enjoy feeding on the delicious fruit that have fallen onto the ground. Tall elephants like Sebakwe use their trunks to reach some fruits still on the tree but are sure to select the ripest of the lot. The youngsters get overexcited as always and chase some of the older females, like Zindoga who tries to push Lundi away from the marulas on the ground. Zindoga often gets feisty around these yummy fruits! The carers call Tokwe and Lundi to the marula tree a short distance away so that they can feed in peace. Enjoy scenes with babies, Khanyisa and Phabeni as they receive their milk bottles in the bush from carers Herman and Last, on this beautiful day in the elephants' wilderness.
Thank you carer Owen for this footage. 🐘
And the great explanation of everything! Love that!
Thank you so much. This is a wonderful Video. You explain all so perfekt ❤
only hippos in the water? no crocs?
Yes many thanks 💝
A photographers delight to behold.
Beautiful creatures.
So handsome and majestic - watching them feast is a real feast for the eyes!! ❤
What a wonderful video to watch. Thank you Owen.
Yes, thank you, Owen, I thoroughly enjoyed that! 😂 What greedy marula addicts they are 😂
Thank you for a wonderful video and your commentary. You really have a knack for this!
Thank you, Owen, for all these impressions. It is always a joy to be part of it.
Love the way the footage is shown just naturally without any accompanying irritating music.
I agree. The natural sounds and the narration are fabulous.
You mean that videos featuring animals don’t always need a xylophone playing in the background? 🤯

The Jabulani herd is growing! Fine looking, healthy, and very loved elles. Though they had a tragic start in life, now, they are so very blessed. Huge thank you to all at HERD. And great job, Owen!!
I completely agree!
Fascinating how Owen dips us in the life of the herd. Obviously, Owen is a part of it. His huge knowledge allows us to see the intimate behaviour of the ellies.
Thank you Owen ❤
사랑스런 가족 🐘😍😍😍
Thank you Owen🙏👍
🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘💐
Those male elephants are HUGE!
Yes. They try to get everyone in the picture frame and often you don't notice the difference. But every so often you get a view of the walk and realize not just height, but feet size and width of the big bulls feet are tremendous.
It makes it more spectacular that the big bulls are so gentle, even when challenged by a teen like ZINDOGA or MAMBO. They never hurt anyone unnecessarily and when they do, it's just a poke.
That's a big herd
@@aimeefriedman822 Yes - worth remembering that teen bulls are capable of killing rhinos and were doing so regularly in Pilanesberg National Park in South Africa in the late 70s, until somebody had the idea of translocating 6 adult elephant bulls from Kruger whereupon the killings stopped almost immediately.
@@Bloodnok49Even elephants need a good male role model. :^)
@@GuantanamoBayBarbie3 Very good! ❤They do! 😀
I forgot Sebakwe was a model! As if he didn’t already have enough to show off about 😉😊

Quite the celebrity... We're lucky to see him in his private moments 😂❤
Owen, your English is very, very good. ❤
I never get tired of gazing upon and studying these magnificent creatures! Thank you for all you do and for sharing with us! 🐘💕
They’re like children picking blueberries - everything goes into their mouths!

Setombe fixed the rules !! and adorable Khanyisa seems to be boring and alone !!! wonderful day to all of you !!! 2 videos today make me feeling so good !
Really nice to hear Owen and the other carers tell the story and narrate for us what's happening in the heard. The connection is so pure and open. Thank you for introducing us to all the carers there today too! ❤

Another new video! Now I am smiling broadly. Thank You, The Herd. ❤
The scenery is so beautiful !
What a beautiful day!
False alarm, its not milk time yet.😂 I love how he takes the shortcut back through their legs and under their bellies!
fix the bottles to tasty no dung
Hey my friend Owen, you have become very skilled at filming and commentary! The quality of the filming is superb! Beni has such a wonderful, loving family and any fears some followers had regarding jealousy from Khanyisa were thankfully unfounded. A Happy, Healthy Herd. Thank you all for your hard work. ❤️🐘💙🙏🙏
Thank you so much for this Owen! 🥰🐘
The mini-elephant Phabeni is soooo tiny!
Thank you for the explanations. What a beautiful herd.
Very good video by Owen. Very interesting commenting. And all the names which we like to know. I didn't know the bulls chased their mothers away. I guess, they are saying, I'm a big boy now, don't need mom.
Thanks Owen! Wow, that is a lot of Marula drops!
❤❤❤❤❤😊
Thank you Owen for sharing this beautiful sight with us all. I love all of these gentle giants, they are magnificent sight to behold. Sending you all many blessings lots of love and hugs from the U.K..🐘🐘🐘🐘🤗🤗🤗❤❤❤❤🇬🇧🇬🇧
It's always delightful to watch the togetherness of the family unit. Their acceptance, love, and respect for the carers is heartwarming. All of the members displayed such respect and love for Owen, who did a fabulous job pointing out family members by name. I love how the herd members were attentive, listening to Owen's words. Thank you Owen for talking about the beautiful marula tree and its fruit. It's always interesting watching the foliage these majestic souls select to eat. All of the carers are so amazing showing each member attention and love, while ensuring their safety...
Thank you Owen. What a great video. 👍 ❤😊
Thank you Owen. I really enjoyed your comments about the HERD.
Beautiful family reunion ❤
Happy herd❤❤❤
Owen, you have a great voice for narrating. Hopefully we’ll see more videos with you narrating 😊. You’re so knowledgeable
Just a slice of heaven for those of us watching. What a beautiful day filled with our friends...Khanyisa is one of the family now...drinking alongside the bigger elephants. So peaceful and wonderful. So much fruit on the ground...a real feast for the elephants! Thank you Owen for capturing this lovely day.
Very interesting vlog Owen!
Every time I go to the vegetable market and see sweet potatoes, I immediately smile and say to myself: Khanyisa!!! How she loves this! Her favorite food!🍠
Who among you is familiar with this situation, my dear fellow Jabulani Herd fans from all over the world?😄😉🤩🙋♀️🌹🍀🌞
Yes, me too! Would love to be able to feed her some!
I also think of Princess K every time I’m preparing sweet potatoes! 🍠
♥♥♥
Owen, you are a fabulous videographer! The elephants show you their faces instead of their bums! Your commentary is informative and interesting. Thank you!
Is the Jabulani Herd considered to be a big herd? When they are all together, I realise how many elephants you are looking after - lots! I love the hippo in the water, but he doesn't seem to like the camera 😁 The Elephants can certainly clean up the ground under the trees so quickly. Lots of thing going on in today's video. I'm surprised how well Khanyisa holds her bottles - she never breaks them or spills them. Thanks for today's commentary Owen - it was great!
No not big at all. Have you seen when they bump into the Wild Herds? One YOUNG MOM will already have 3 babies.
Actually small herd, as the other poster said. Based on video I have seen.
Adine has described it as big in videos or getting big , a small herd would be under 10 elephants I think.
Truly magnificent animals! ❤ Thank you Owen for your amazing photography and pointing out each elephant. ❤
So proud of Sebakwe! He's a handsome guy.
Thank you, Owen, for the interesting commentary! I always love the extra information. I love watching this herd and their daily activities, to see what the carers are doing, and each elephant is precious!❤🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘❤️ By the way, I happened to taste Amarula at a friend’s house some years before I came across HERD on TH-cam. I really liked it, although in general I’m not a big fan of alcohol. And then when I discovered HERD, to learn Sebakwe is the model for Amarula is delightful!
Thank you carer Owen, this video and narration. Owen has a lot of knowledge 💕🐘🐘🐘🐘💕. It's like marulas are candy for elephants 😋😃🐘🐘🐘🐘. Thank you taking the good care of the young elephants in the marula season ❤💚❤. The little ones are there with milk bottles 💕🍼🍼🍼🍼🐘🐘💕. Thank you, blessing ❤.
Did anyone see how Setombe removed the stick for Phabeni to get thru to the tree. 💕
And Phabeni b lines it to Owen 😂. He seemed to completely understand when Owen told him its not time for the milk.
I could comment all day. I love them so much.
I LOVED this video. Thank you Owen and all the carers for showing us the Marula eating and bottle feeding . I will always love watching our baby K get her bottle. They use to be almost as big as her and now they are miniscule.
I hope Phaebini grabs his as well and feeds himself. It is precious.
I laughed just seeing the hippos ears/eyes. 😂😂

The herd is so peaceful and content. Thank you and the staff, who are wonderful. Thank you for telling us their names and explaining what they are doing. This was a great video.
Thank you Owen. Very interesting😊
What an amazing video. Thank you, Owen. Your voice is perfectly calming for this. When Fish pulls up to the water...it's like a jumbo jet taxiing. He's so handsome. They're beautiful God creatures...thank you! 💕🦣🦣
@ebillie1181 Isn't that the truth about Fish? At first thought it was Sebakwe, until I saw his leg. Fish is definitely a Big Boy!! And, what a stunning blue sky with puffy white clouds. Gorgeous.
💕
Thank you for this. Love videos where Owen is explaining the dynamics and relationships seen on the video. This is so informative. Love seeing what the HERD looks like when they're feeding from the tree and how the relationships work. Thank you Adine and carers for all that you do 🙏
How interesting! I am from Germany and know the Amarula drink - it is very delicuious :-) How cool that a Jabulani herd member is actually depicted on the bottle!
Love the amazing and peaceful footage of the herd at the waterhole and under the tree 😍

Thank you Owen! Love the narrative, and his mastery in video taking!! Such a peaceful scene at the waterhole...and fun to see the kids get a bit greedy with the marulas 😆 Was special to see little Beni walk amongst them all as he is so happy with his new family and they adore him! ♥ Setombe not wanting to share her baby...but who could blame her. A heartwarming scene with the carers calling Lundi and Tokwe over to get some treats! And baby K so proficient in downing her milk bottles...she has grown up so much! It makes me a feel I'm getting to know each carer & Adine. You are the best. LOVELY, lovely people.
Wonderful informative video.
Thumbs up for The Herd.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The story I remember about the Murala tree I saw on TV years ago. The elephants had a path to the trees they would travel every year knowing when these trees would drop their fruit. Then some builders moved in to build a hotel right on the path. So they built the hotel lobby tall enough so the elephants could continue on the path right thru the hotel lobby. Great tourist attraction of course. Wild elles going thru lobby while people are eating.
I saw a story like that but it was mango trees
Amazing place, it's up in Zambia.

Great video Owen! Good Morning from USA Herd! Much respect and looking forward to fund raiser for April🎉
Hello 🌹Thanks, Owen to show us who IS who !
Our Friends AT a Marula's party. Phabeni is waiting his milk too small yet for marula's Time.❤️😊
I jut saw a life video from 4 months ago, first meeting of Adine and Phabeni-Beni. Adine was so convinced that Setombe is not to be approached in order to introduce Phabeni, for raising him as a surogate mother. It was so sweet and far from what is really happening now.
What a strong relation, have Phabeni-Beni and Setombe, impressive and amazing. ❤🧡🐘🐘
Owen has been getting some GREAT footage for us! Thank you Owen! The commentary was spot on as well, I loved when he named them all as he said their name they would look at him as if they were giving him a 'wassup Owen'😆
Such dedication these men show the herd. Thank you for all your long hours, exhausting chores and wild treks from marula tree to marula tree to keep this herd happy and healthy!!
Thank you Owen, for a lovely video. Very good, interesting, narration. You have a good voice for this. I love how Phabeni came over thinking it was time for milk. It's amazing how quickly the ellies vacuum cleaned up all the marulas so quickly. Little Phabeni is getting good at using that little wriggly trunk of his. Wow,I didn't know that the naughty youngsters chase away the elders from the fruit. That was a beautiful shot of the whole herd together under the tree. I was surprised that no ellie chased the hippo out of the water, but noticed Jabu keeping an eye on it. The marulas look so small next to the ellies but are plum size in a humans hand.I've seen other videos of animals getting drunk on FERMENTED marulas, but the fruit will never get to that stage with the Jabulani Herd around,so no fear there. Thank you, again you wonderful carers for taking such good care of the herd.💖💖🐘🐘👍👍🥰🥰
Awwww lovely seeing all the Jubalani herd together under the Murula tree. They hoovered all the murula fruit up sooo quick. Lovely seeing the cheeky Hippo too. Lovely seeing Fishan getting about quite well considering his leg, bless him.
Sooo lovely seeing Khanyisa and Phabeni having their milk, bless them.

It is so amazing to see so many adopted elephants that became a herd.... and how anyone can remember who's name is who's...The most wonderful thing is that there are dedicated people that have a great relationship with them and how they can almost turn into to a wild herd and how humans can sit.... and learn their responses to each other ...it is wonderful that they have the trust on both sides, that they all work together to carry on the lives of these elephants.
Thank you Owen. I loved your informative narrative delivered with such a soothing authentic voice showing such understanding of and care for all the individuals in the herd. I watch all of the videos on this channel. I like Adine’s extended observe/listen/minimal talk videos as well as her chatty ones, but I also love your kind of narrated video with explanations about behavior, interactions, family dynamics and details about how the carers work to accommodate these behaviors like calling Lundi and Tokwe to different tree (they come by name!!) or keeping track of the restless “Marula tree hopping” youngsters. Please keep this kind of narration coming Owen!!!
It's so nice to see the whole HERD 🐘 drinking together at the water hole. Then it's off to the marula trees. It sure did not take long before the ground, full of marulas were gone. Zindoga 🐘 surprised me chasing Lundi 🐘 away. It was very nice seeing all of the carers that were out with the HERD 🐘today. Phabeni 🐘 and Khaynisa 🐘 both getting their bottles 🍼🍼🍼 today in the bush. They both enjoyed them and they were gone in a flash. Thank you Owen for describing who was who at the water hole and under the marula trees. Owen, you did a great job! I was so happy to see the 3 Munckins P, T & K together at the waterhole with Tokwe , Lundi and Limpopo! On the other side, seeing Bubi, Fishan Setombe, Klaserie and Phabeni was also heartwarming. I sincerely hope that Bubi now finds herself a bit less skittish and ends up being part of that group. Although, I feel she really feels more at home with the bulls. Being that Phabeni is a bull just like Zindoga, she really will end up being a good allomother to Seuntjie. None of the females, with the exception of Setombe is that attached to the hip of their offspring like Setombe is with daughter Klaserie. The exceptionally strong bond between these 2 is just incredible. Nothing except the world coming to an end would separate them!
Two videos of the beautiful herd today what a treat ❤
❤
Beautiful footage and commentary, thank you Owen. I really love how you keep up identifying the elephants, that never gets old, also narrating the scene. I was surprised that the carers at the next tree were able to call just the two ellies they wanted, and those two responded. I did not expect that. Lovely human/elephant relationships all round. God bless all.
Ho notato anch'io! Tokwe e Lundi intelligentemente ,hanno risposto alla chiamata dei carers ( SONO FEMALE FANTASTICHE ,INTELLIGENTI ,ADORABILI)!!!
Whenever I see Fishan, I am so impressed by his size! And he is such a tough elephant enduring that broken leg. Thank God he is taken care of so well at HERD. I just LOVE Fishan...and of coarse the entire herd! Thank you so much! God bless. 😍🥰😍🥰😍

I'm enjoying being introduced to the whole herd. I keep trying to memorise who is who.... I wonder what all their stories are. Whatever there stories were, they are now safe, happy and contented in their own elephant world.
I’ve been watching for four years and can only recognize four of them.
There are many early videos that talking about specific markings of each elephant.
Fishan has always been one of my favorites. It’s good to see him in with the group. He always seems to be standing off by himself.
It seems the youngsters know not to bully him, seeing as he didnt get called over too.
That Hippo in the middle of the water hole lol...wha tmust he have been thinking........it really made me laugh out loud as it even looked like the Hippo's eyes were saying "Yikes".....surrounded by such a large herd......Such a wonderful time of year, and after the rains it is fresh and the water hole looks full! Owen thank you for the narration.....it was SO funny when he said Klasserie giving the "bum"...another belly laugh.......thank you so much for sharing these wonderful and funny moments!
Setombe really is an attentive mother, and she really is very selective of others in the herd who could go near her baby. It's really impressive and endearing to see. Although, I feel bad for other female elephants who really would like to bond with Phabeni as well. And Phabeni is really intelligent when he saw Owen and associate him with milk time, and when he was told that it was not that time yet, he seemed to understand.❤🐘❤
Thanks!
Great video, Owen is the new David Attenborough.
Phabeni is so cute with his little tiny self am so glad that khanyisa is loving her little brother Phabeni and she's talking care of him ok I just hope that they don't get drunk also I I'm so in love with the elephants family they are so beautiful thank you for helping them please keep safe and please be blessed 🎉🎉🎉😂😂😂❤

A very informative and interesting commentary, very well filmed and nicely guiding one, through the herd. Each time naming the elephant and discussing the behaviour is extremely helpful. And mother nature provides her spectacular backdrop, with the large marulla tree under a brilliantly blue sky dotted with white clouds. Thank you, this was fun 😊
