Thanks for posting this. As I was watching this video, I was like I’m sure / I wonder if he’s an admiral by now. Then I look at the comments, and BOOM.
Sir, Congratulations on being successful in your life and not going down the wrong road. You should be extremely proud of yourself! I served in USN as enlisted dental technician. Loved it! Wanted to stay 30 years but was only able to make it 5 1/2 years due to a disabling illness. Have so much pride for our country and our military! Praise God! Also live in SC.
This is the ship my dad was on for 10 years ever since 2010. He’s been in the navy for 21 years. He just made master chief which is amazing to see him do. 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Capt Pringle you must / should be very proud of yourself, your colleagues, your crew, your ship and the USN. You play such a huge part in defending the Free World even when not thinking of it. Coming from a retired member of the Canadian Army 🇨🇦that sadly has to acknowledge over the last few decades my country is sorely lacking. Stay strong.
Awesome video. I had a chance to visit the Makin Island during San Francisco Fleetweek 2010, and its so great to see the real people on board who make her mission possible. Great job!
Wait….when was this video taken because I’m a plankowner. Meaning I was onboard the Makin Island while it was being built in Pascagoula, MS and Admiral Pringle was the second XO I served under.
Was a Marine.. Was onboard the USS Ogden that took us from Vietnam to Okinawa, around March or April of 1967,,,, Made a amphibious landing off of the USS Paul Revere, 15Mar66.... I don't think I could have been a sailor on a ship, but certainly respect those that sail the seas...
I can't believe I'm considering going back. Definitely a love hate thing but looking back on it, I took it for granted. It's fun in its own way. Thinking of going the Officer route through one of the maritime academies to get a "second chance" in the Navy with a renewed mindset. Got nothing else going on, might as well.
I miss the Navy and navigating God's great Oceans. Thirty years ago I could have gone back into the Navy as a Lieutenant, but all the Navy had for me at the time was as a commission as a Weapon Systems Officer on board a Destroyer. I wish now I would have taken it.
Am I the only one who noticed LT was wearing the same Warfare device for officer and enlisted. I don't know about the surface Warfare device but in the submarine Force if you are a Mustang and qualify both enlisted and officer Warfare devices you only can wear the officer one
Must be an LDO. He is wearing both so it must be okay. Some officer of senior NCO wouild have tightened him up before now if it were not I would think. Or maybe the Navy has just gotten lax. I seem to recall someone from my time, 1987-2000, wearing both with no issue though. Not sure.
god miss that ship can't even lie... wish i was back on the flight deck with my boys! can't wait to get out of the middle east... take care makin island n be safe on this deployment! see you guys when/ if you guys get over here!
A Captain in the Navy is not the same rank as a Captain in Army, Marines or Air Force. A Navy Captain is a full bird, the same as a Colonel in the other 3 services.
God bless Capt Pringle and all who serve in US Navy. I still wonder why sailors wear the blue camo uniforms. Never liked them. Anybody have info on why and when those uniforms were introduced?
@2JKuSHiTT to be honest, commissioning through regular college seems to be the better deal. Enjoy college life, and the Navy officers degree completion programs.
It is in theory. In practice, I think they do well but not perfectly in that regard. That said, for my first 10 years in the Navy, at least one person in my chain of command was black, and usually more than one (and it wasn't just LPOs and LCPOs, but officers as well, up to and including the squadron commodore). Overall, IIRC, about 22% of enlisted and 18% of officers are black, which is greater than the population percentage for the USA at large. (I'd have to double-check those figures - they're recollections from probably 10 years ago.) I'm not sure about COs and CO-grade officers specifically (O-5 and O-6), though. There definitely are a fair number, but I can't remember if the percentage still tracks that for officers in general or not.
@proclub77 4 year degree in college. u can get a scholarship for NROTC and they will pay for your tuition and everything else, (if your in high school). then you have to go through OCS (Officer Candidate School). its a process that takes time, but its worth it. Im trying to get an NROTC scholarship. i still have two more years though. For more information you can go to Navy's website and look at education opportunities.
I really like the name tho..I thought it’s was a some random name for a ship but when I do some Researched on it....so it’s was Makin island atoll from kiribati 🇰🇮...and I’m From Makin Island so yea thanks for Everything USA for everything!!!!
Who were all the officers in medical? Are there names listed somewhere? The asian officer smiling at time 4.35 looks eerily familiar. Can anyone help? Thanks.
Besides improperly wearing both the SWO and ESWS badge concurrently, he is wearing the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal upside down. The center stripes are blue, white, red (blue to the wearer’s right) and not red, white blue as he is wearing.
On the captain's NWU, what is the pin or badge is under the left pocket flap (is it still called the blouse)? Looks like a trident of some sort pointing up. My computer monitor is not the clearest of them all.
skyserf There was no enlisted surface warfare badge in my day but, in general, once you qualify for the gold badge, you may no longer wear the silver version.
Gold Winger I wasn’t in the Navy, I’m just guessing. It could be that things have changed or he could be wearing it incorrectly. The Expeditionary ribbon does look upside down.
@2JKuSHiTT if you're not a junior in high school or below right now and don't have a gpa of atleast 3.2 and a high ACT, then the chances of you getting in are a miracle, no offense, just the facts :P. - accepted to west point and USAFA

Captain Pringle is now Rear Admiral Pringle. Got to see the man himself when we visited my ship. (USS COMSTOCK)

Yeah Pringle clearly is made of the right stuff.

Man, maybe I am just getting old, but Captain Pringle looks young!
Johnny Z'Salt He graduated from university 32 years ago. He’s now a Rear Admiral.
You sound a bit salty.
Ya, I thought, what's that kids job. LoL.
Wow, now Admiral Pringle as said below, still looks like a young kid. He is aging very well.
I love that the military doesn't care about gender, race or religion they just care that you love and support the great US of A!
Inspiring Leaders and definitely part of many American heroes. THANK YOU ALL for your service and leadership.

You got this 💪💪
@proclub77 They also have direct commission so you can join in a technical job then be promoted to an officer.
They have an O-6 as an XO...?
China Sailor Yes, they fleet up to become CO after successful tour as XO
China Sailor yes.. The USS Makin Island LHD 8 is a major warship and not uncommon to have an 06 for her XO.
For those platforms, yes.
I was on an LHA which is pretty much identical to that ship and we had 2 O-6's as CO and XO. Totally normal.
Woow, that was my first thought too. A full bird captain as an XO. It must be incredibly demanding. And subs have O-5's for CO's!
My step dad helped build this ship

The amphibious land was off the coast of Vietnam, PhuBai area...

He's now a Rear Admiral.
@@juliusgrover7262 that’s awesome, looks like an awesome man. And probably an even better man to serve under. I can feel his motivation from here.

God bless all of you.
@KillerBeeKiller yeah, he's actually in the wrong on that. The moment an officer earns his/her SWO they are no longer authorized to wear ESWS
more than likely they work for LT! we learn alot about our officers due to working side by side with them alot!
God bless Capt Pringle and all who serve in US Navy.
I still wonder why sailors wear the blue camo uniforms.
Never liked them.
Anybody have info on why and when those uniforms were introduced?
I heard that they were designed in order to hide oil smudges and other stains of that matter
Wow this video has some old timers on it!
those uniforms are fire

How do you become an officer for the navy???
what is the percentage of white vs black ship commanders in the navy, is it equal opportunity?
It is in theory. In practice, I think they do well but not perfectly in that regard. David Harrity Regarding the Lieutenant, it sounds as though he was enlisted first. Perhaps that’s how he got the lower badge.

Uuummmmn chicken adobo.
because this video is about officers, they have the available time to put on makeup.
that was a funny video
You know this is just for the cameras because the XO would NEVER request permission to come aboard on his own ship!
It's not his ship. It's the Captains ship.
Cole Thornton As of December 2017 he had been promoted to Rear Admiral and took command of Expeditionary Strike Group 3.
Every XO I have always seen does so. And it is not HIS ship.
