    I graduated from Navy OCS , Class 42, May 1, 1959. It
    was a vastly different orientation than it is now, for good reason. The Cold War was looking like it was going to heat up, and there was a draft of qualified 18 year old and above men. I had a tough time with some of the technical classes, but had gifted tech types for room mates. I have always been very proud of saying that I am , LT USNR retired and I did ship board sea duty as part of my service.

      My son will be starting OCS in October. Do you have any contact with your son at all during the 13 weeks? If so, how is he finding it? Oh…and what is ‘sucky Saturday’? 😳

    • @theshadowlands14
      @theshadowlands14 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@BarbraGeorgellissucky Saturday is not a thing. Might be something from an old outdated OCS family support website. Saturdays are usually spent doing self PT at Nimitz field, or doing extra drill practice with your drill instructor. You won’t have contacts the first three weeks of OCS while your candidate is in INDOC phase, but if they make it to JOC without getting rolled then they’ll earn privileges to use the phones on the quarter deck to call home. If your candidate rolls during Indoc phase, then you’ll get a phone call from them a lot earlier than you’d expect where they basically tell you that they’re going to spend an extra 3 weeks at OCS.

    NOCS Class 81002 - NOV 1980-MAR 1981 - 16 Week Program. No Small Arms Training (Rifle or Pistol). One USS Buttercup DC Training Session mid-DEC 1980 - Bay Water was cold! No Firefighting Training Program. One YP Practical Navigation/Seamanship/Underway Session FEB 1981. No USMC DIs at that time. Commence Navy Supply Corps School - Athens, GA 6 month BQC Afloat - APR-OCT 1981. Different Era. Different Resources. No Information Technology Resources. Current program much more challenging! Prior Enlisted at much greater advantage.

    I don’t understand the obsession with getting beat. They already beat you a handful of times prior to the inspection in other evolutions that you have to pass and now they beat you during the inspection and even take you out to beat you again right before you get pinned to move on to the next phase (Junior Officer). Not to mention taking the PRT 4 times during the 13 weeks you are there. Most of these guys/gals aren’t going to an infantry or combat unit.
    Some of that time could truly be used for more productive activities to make you a better officer. Testing your critical thinking skills, thinking outside the box, being more strategic etc. For example the academic subjects could be increased, officer training on an actual ship for a few days, etc. They need to evolve the training.

    I’m planning to go in the NAVY and the job I’m requesting to go into is Special Forces and be an SO which is NAVY SEAL and I wanna be a Navy Seal because of one reason and that’s to fight for the fallen brothers and sisters that are dead from the bombing blast on August 26th 2021

      @Redbeard327 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know I am late but I hope this answers your question. It depends on your desired course of action. This video is outlining specifically the school associated with becoming an officer. This has nothing to do with becoming a SEAL unless you are trying to become an officer in special forces. SEALs go through a plethora of schools including the infamous BUDS. I recommend doing some research specifically on becoming a SEAL. Congrats on your decision, and I wish you the best of luck!

    • @tickles5289
      @tickles5289 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The "SPECIAL FORCES " are the US Army Green Berets. So the answer is NO! You mean Naval Special Warfare.
      Make sure you get with someone who can prepare you physically for that. Research channels on TH-cam that are dedicated to helping people train for SEALs and other special operations.

    Certainly hope the class officers and senior enlisted staff are being empowered to roll/seawall/OLQ candidates who want to just fart around during Battle Stations.
    I can only say that the eighth week "personnel inspection" when I went through the program back in 2010 was done by the candidate officers (just one class ahead of us), and it was NOT stressful. 😑

    • @theshadowlands14
      @theshadowlands14 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Khaki uniform inspection is done by RDCs and is more so a check to see if you can properly wear the uniform and test your knowledge on the service songs, national anthem, sailors creed, and the six original frigates. It’s not a terribly stressful inspection, but there are always a handful who’s fail and need to reinspect. Don’t think I’ve ever heard of anyone getting rolled for it. Then the OPI inspection during 9th week is a lot tougher which tests your working knowledge of Navy platforms and mission areas. You’ll see a handful of people get rolled for failing that inspection. It’s conducted by LTs.

      @sfh05004 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@theshadowlands14 Good to hear that they're at least trying to not let the candidates go into "cruise control" too early in the program, and OBVIOUSLY hope that the Marine Corps DI's are still doing all the drill training, i.e. it helps the time go by just that much slower. 😁

    • @domesticrhino6853
      @domesticrhino6853 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I’ve heard of one person roll for 6th week. OPI is week 8, not week 9. Battle stations is very intense now, with a lot more physical training. DIs are very much still involved in drill. Overall training is well run and OCS is a good program.
