  • In this Range Report I get some range time on an Sig Sauer P210 pistol. This is a target variation with the addition of Armory Craft Grips. The P210 is considered by many to be the best pistol Sig Sauer ever designed and the most accurate military handgun ever produced. Original Swiss made ones sell for a premium. This is a U.S. made version with modern design features and manufacturing. This video documents my personal thoughts, opinions and experiences, your may vary.

I have and love the p210 target and carry. The target is the only gun I don’t wear gloves with. The curved wood grips fit my hand better than any other pistol.

@@thetexasgunvault They no longer make the version P210 that I am after. The numbers imported were really small, and no one sells them.

I have had a few long chats with support folk in New Hampshire lately. They say:
The P210as in all flavors are made in small, infrequent batches. While supply is short now, they are not discontinued. When one goes "out of the catalog" it is because of "lack of sales". The P210a Carry was dropped from the catalog a few months ago. When I bought mine about four weeks ago, a local large, very large, truly large, many things outdoors store had maybe six in stock. They probably still have a few, as well as the Target as seen in this video.
The Target (5") is still in the catalog. And a new Custom Works Carry make for the second of only two models in the catalog right now. It is very, very shiny!
I am forbidden by my orthopedic surgeon from using any firearm for a too many months. He rebuilt my right shoulder a year ago and my left shoulder one month ago. So I am sitting here with three P210as and cannot shoot them. When I can get back into shooting, my Target model will do NRA Bullseye duty. I actually carry my Carry model. I am undecided about what purpose I will put my Custom Works Carry. My best guess before testing trigger pulls is less than 3.5 for the target and ~ 4.5 on the Carry.

Armory Craft also makes a set of aluminum grips if you want some extra weight.

You are correct about having to fire a gun in self defense. It should always be the only option to protect your life or someone else's life. However, I disagree with a 5# or above trigger. I can't stand bricks - aka Glocks - for that reason. The harder the trigger the more likely you are to jerk the gun and miss your shot. If you have doubts - you should not be carrying to begin with. Practice, practice, practice and when you think you know it - practice some more. If you draw a gun - in self defense - keep your finger off the trigger until you want it to go BOOM! Even a brick will go BOOM if your finger is on the trigger. Known as TRIGGER DISCIPLINE! If you don't have trigger discipline DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT CARRYING!

    • @thetexasgunvault

You make good points but there is a learning curve with a trigger like this for many people.

What surprises most is that the standard and target model's slides and frames are 100% stainless steel. The dark finish that Sig puts are the stainless is more durable than bluing and is flawless in coverage. The carry model uses the same magazine as the standard model. I was able to score the carry model and really like it. It has a trigger that is about 1 lb heavier that the target and standard models.

I have had my Standard for over two years. I did put basically the same grips on it from Houge. But checkered on the back strap. It’s a favorite pistol. The standard has been out of production and is getting hard to find. The target went up 400 in price recently. Will Sig keep making it much longer. It’s no longer a bargain at 1900 bucks.

Great review. I tried asking sig a couple of questions about these pistols. And could not get a straight answer. Could you tell me all the american-made New Hampshire models of the sig p210 forged frames and slide? I kept asking cig and they insisted that the frames of the 210 standard are all forged aluminum as is there karaoke version. I know that's not true if you have any information I would appreciate it thank you.

I have the same American P210 Target and have the same issue with the grip. I think there is no reason to have such a fat grip on a single stock magazine pistol. It would be perfect to modernize it to a double stock, same as 2011 in comparison to a 1911. That modification would make this wonderful pistol perfect.

Have always hated Nil grips. I got the Standard just to avoid them. Took my Standard to the range today and got a good grouping at 25 yards - that about as far I as would want to shoot a pistol. Excellent gun, but the trigger is not as good as my Sig Legion 226 SAO. Still an awesome firearm and an excellent range toy. Like you said, trigger is too light for a self defense gun.
