I have one - it's my "party pedal" when I want to make loads of mad noises. Also you can get a really good eighties synth bass sound I use in cover bands.
It's an interesting sound but how useful is it as a bass sound in a mix? I was a bit disappointed when I tried one, that the synth sound is quite high pitched. I suppose I was hoping for more of an enhanced octave pedal or monosynth bass sound, which does seem more usable in a mix. I quite liked in on guitar. Reminded me of the Rubarb and Custard theme! What do you think?
Yes - I feel the same with the bass, but as long as the direct signal is there, then great - I've recorded with it with two inputs - dry and effect, and then tweak the effected version. Often, live, you can send the direct out to the bass amp, and then the effected out via a set of guitar pedals into a guitar amp! Fun fun, but yes, limited in usage...Rhubarba and Custard: yes yes!
It depends on whether your sound went through the console or direct from amp. I hd the same issue recently with an envelope filter going through the console. It was a fucking nightmare.
@@DanBakerMusic funny you ask. I did look but for some reason my wife was significantly less impressed at the idea of spending that on "another toy". Im not giving up on the idea, just going to save up over a couple of months.
You can also hold the foot switch down to keep the pitch steady..
Best explanation from all videos posted so far. Thanks a lot!!!
Thank you very much - good old Boss pedals - they constantly reinvent themselves....

I play guitar and chose the SYB-5 over the SY-1 as I think it has better sounds.
Consider if you have a modern IOS device using ToneStack's RoxSyn for bass synth sounds. I use it with my guitar and absolutely love it!

Dear Dean, could you give us the setup of MADNESS (Muse)?
I use mine mostly on guitar.
Interesting bit of kit. Queue imminent Amazon search for product 😁
Did you find one?
