It's true...somehow when reviewing this video we ALL missed the fact that we completely left out the finishing off the bacon jam with apricot jam, apple cider and cayenne. Sorry about that! We can just blame it on Chance 😉

Never been teary-eyed over an episode of STCG, until this one. Grilled cheese and tomato soup (albeit not as put together as this one), was my dad's favorite go-to of all time. So, i get back home, and find out this video was released on the day we laid him to rest. I know y'all didn't make this video for me, but i'm going to go ahead and tell myself that you did.

OK, I finally succumbed to trying the mayo, salt and pepper and fresh squeezed garlic for my grilled cheese/jalapeno sammiches.
First, I have been a "nothing but butter" guy for my 52 years on Earth. Second, my God why have I never tried the mayo mixture on grilled cheese?!?! I am freaking hooked on that flavor. So much more savory than bland butter. I feel as if I need to make up for 52 years of missing out!
Thanks for this. Fairly new subscriber saying thanks from sunny coastal North Carolina!

I’ve commented before asking if you could do a whole episode of knife skills, maybe an episode of knife skills & the proper way to keep them sharpened would be 🔥 and super helpful!

    • @SilvaDreams
      @SilvaDreams 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Well first of all that metal bar that might come with your knife set isn't a sharpener, it's purely to de-burr or keep the edge straight as when the knife begins to dull the edge is curling over and that will straighten it back into shape (for a bit) but as for the proper angle each knife will have a different angle so... You might want to just look up some proper knife sharpening tutorials from experts. I rather not write an entire book but you'll have to invest in a few sharpening stones as well, those cheap machines don't work and just eat your knifes.

    Three criticisms:
    1. Don't use vine tomatoes. They are commercially grown for color and size but not flavor. Heirlooms, Campari, Kumato, and if it is the season local cherry tomatoes would be better options.
    2. A focaccia instead of a crusty bread.
    3. Shred your own good cheese. Or use slices of good cheese. None of that pre-shredded crap.
Okay, a fourth: thicken the soup. More tomato paste and let it simmer longer.
    I loved the bacon jam.
I am actually gonna buy those ear buds because the ones I have alway fall out of my ears randomly.
    Love your channel.

SAM! The bacon grease discussion got me to thinking.... Have you ever made fried corn? My mom used to make it every now and again as a treat with dinner. Basically; fresh corn kernels off the cob; throw a tablespoon or 2 of bacon grease in a pan (depending on volume of corn you're frying) ; once heated up to medium-high heat, toss in the corn and fry it up until you get delicious golden brown spots all around. (Salt and pepper right at the end) You will not find a better unhealthy (but DELICIOUS!) veggie side dish anywhere.

Did I miss something? He said “there’s more coming to this, just not yet” (referring to the bacon jam). But next thing I know he’s adding it to the grilled cheese. So is it just bacon, red onion, and tomatoes?

There's supposed to be apricot jam in there. They forgot to add the clip of it or something...

Check the link to the recipe. He forgot the last 4 ingredients.
One pound maple bacon, finely chopped
      1 red onion, finely chopped
      2 cloves garlic, minced
1 large tomato, finely chopped (about a cup)
      and the missing ingredients
      1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
      1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
      1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
      1/2 cup apricot jam

Sam, your grilled cheese and tomato soup combo is the epitome of comfort food! I'm a huge fan of tomato soup, and I recently whipped up a veggie soup with roasted tomatoes. Your recipe definitely adds a touch of inspiration to my kitchen endeavors. Keep those flavors coming!👍

I saute my onions with bourbon or rum, then add cooked bacon in so it will absorb some of the liquor. Keep bacon jam in the freezer all the time, will keep well. Great cook!

Making this for my mom, she loves tomato soup. Funny part about watching this, during a storm, a big thunderclap goes off and you are right on cue saying “Oh Sniz-app”

This bacon onion jam is THE ingredient. I just used it on pulled chicken bbq sandwiches and it’s just the best. I’ll keep this in my fridge going forward. 0:56

This is awesome, speaking of biscuits and gravy.. I've been craving a country fried steak, but a skillet version layered with hashbrowns, onions, mushrooms, cheese, and of course lots of gravy! Keep up the great work guys!

I made this the other day (but just saw note about missing ingredients). I had leftovers at today heated up some of the soup with a couple dollops of the jam. I made some croutons with leftover bread. Then I put some of the leftover cheese mixture on top! Delicious!!!

Hey Sam and fellas! A 25 year old Clevelander here who loves your videos. I already loved cooking because My parents are super solid cooks, but your channel has actually taken My cooking to the next level. Okay enough kissing ass. You should do a taco bar episode, setting up all your favorite combinations that could go into tacos. Then have you, Max, and Chance make your favorite combination. There’s a lot of party and tailgating opportunities coming up. It would be super solid. Thank you guys :)

Sam, I've always loved your channel and I've made many of your meals! Especially your Frenched bone pork and scalloped potatoes to impress my future in-laws! Turned out amazing!
My wife and I were super excited for this "Comfort Food grilled cheese and tomato soup" what happened to the videos of jazzing up some Campbells tomato soup and making a great simple but different grilled cheese anyone could make.
I've always loved your channel. Turn easy simple meals into next level and trying new simple ingredients that make life better.
