- In this video I am showing the differences and similarities between these two knives. The influences the Mikov auto has on the Cobra is undeniable. I will let you decide if this is something to be frowned upon or not.
The MIKOV Company is one of the oldest knife companies in the Czech Republic (former Czechoslovakia). Established in 1794 by Ignac Rosler it quickly became the leading producer of quality cutlery in its region. In 19th century the company had two factories - Sandrik and Koh-I-Noor. In 1955 those two factories united and MIKOV company was founded. Nowadays MIKOV is the biggest knife company in the Czech Republic - a manufacturer of a wide variety of folding knives, fixed blades, kitchen cutlery, scissors and office equipment.
It is possible to say that if there is any traditional knife in our country it must be a Mikov folder.
Materials: Mikov auto knives have blades made of 440A stainless steel. Exclusive lines use Damasteel and now also RWL-34. Some fixed blades are made of 440C steel. Scales are made from black or yellow ABS plastic, exotic wood (Cocobolo, Turkish walnut, Snakewood, Amboyna), real stag, buffalo horn and bone. All singlebladed automatic knives are made for left handed users as well. - บันเทิง
Love my Mikov's and wouldn't think of dumping anywhere from $495-$600+ on the Microtech Cobra. Price is rediculous and its definitely a copy. To say it isn't is absurd and even Microtech said its fashioned after the Mikov. Mikov's also come in carbon fiber and with clips too. Not bashing Microtech and own several, but Mikov's the original and a beast of a blade. Replacement springs can be bought on several web sites too. The one you showed is their low end model, but is awesome regardless.
Exactly. He is presenting lowest version of mikov made of steel 420.
Mikov has also elite version made of Damascus steel costs 500€. I recommend Stonewash version made of elite steel N690 www.mikov.cz/nuz-241-bh-1-stkp-stonewash/
Lol yeah the microtech elitists use mental kung fu to talk up anything microtech when there's plenty of knives out there on par and even better. Microtechs bullshit prices created a subculture of overpaying otf elitists.
The Mikov is the OG; it's been around longer than Microtech has existed. :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
Facts
I have Mikov auto with walnut scales ,I bought it back 1992 and for $45 new at a gun show ,it’s a very nice knife I’m glad I got one
Nice score!
I have a mikov on order. Thank once again for the overview.
Got this Mikov when I was 10 (1988), and it's still fine :-)
used it how much?
VicariousReality7 well 5-6 years quite often being scout, later quite rarely 2-3 times a month in average.
Have you ever had to replace the springs? I've heard most people say that I've heard that mikov is really good about giving you a replacements
Lucky dog I wanted a switch blade since I was 10 I had to wait till I was 29 to get one. Just became legal in my state.
Great video! Thanks so much for the info. I wanted the cobra but never could afford it before they sold out. So glad I found your vids now I will get a Mikov and it will be more affordable.
I love my mikov. Got it from PVK two years ago. Fantastic knife fires hard, same today as when I got it. Thanks for the vids. Subscribing.
Nice video as always.
I think I like the classic look and style of the Mikov better than the Microtech.
Mikov made now Stonewash version made of steel n960
I have a combat troodon that I just got a month ago. After lots of open and closing the blade is starting to not close all the way. Is there a place on the knife I can clean or oil to speed up the action? I foo have the tool for the screws but have never taken a otf apart. Thanks
cool vid man
The "241 NH1c" is your Mikov with a pocketclip.
Mikov > Cobra
+Vin Ellis totally
Great job brother forgot about this one thanks for history on knife didn't know all that man Microtech has some nerve lol
There are several handle options that are stock from mikov, cocoBola, g10, and stag handles are all available options
I believe you are correct that those spring loaded nubs are designed to slow the blade but its not to prevent wear of the backspacer. The issue with many microtech knives is what I call blow back. It can happen with any leaf fired microtech and I have even seen it happen with halos. Everyone wants a knife to fire super hard and super quick. The problem is if you use too much spring power the blade reaches the end of its travel and bounces back towards the handle in a ricochet effect before the lock even has a chance to engage the blade. Those nubs probably slow the blade enough to where it wont ricochet. I have seen halos fire so hard the the blade bounces back into the handle 1/4" and it hits the end of its travel so hard that if you arent holding the handle tight the charging handle comes loose from its retainers.
I'm interested to hear about the custom. A negative review from you is pretty rare.
Could you please make a video about the spring in the Mikov??? I have an identical one and understood that the spring can be removed and put back in seconds, but mine is missing the spring :( Want to recreate it to put life back into the knife. Thanks!
On the mikov a new spring can be just pushed up into the handle from the bottom. You push it up against the back spacer or spine of the handle, small end of the spring goes in first . You push up all the way into the handle making sure that the larger portion of the spring goes all the way in flush with the bottom of the handle unitl you hear that click and thats it. Make sure the notch on the bottom of the spring is facing away from the spine..hope this helps
you can also visit my TH-cam chanel to see video on how to remove the spring.
Mikov FTW.
This is a cool comparison, I have a few Mikovs with dark horn handles and for knives made the traditional way peened together they are great knives especially good users and for its time very innovative like being able to change out a spring without taking the knife apart . As far as the Microtech Cobra Im sure its a great knife but unfortunately its a clone of a Mikov. Im going to look at them the same way I look at any company that steals a design and calls it theirs. Its a shame because Microtech has great designs of their own I just dont see the point why go there.
were did you buy the Mikov Automatic Knife? and how much do they run for?
Matthew Hennessey You can get them on bladeplay.
Nice knives but I just can't justify the price of them. I think I would take a fixed blade over a folding blade for anything $100 and over. I do like the stability of that cobra, I don't like any kind of wiggle room for a folding knife.
Very good review
Just got mine man mi
Mikov is amazing
Sure is!
What happened to hating people stealing others designs?
The Bladed Brony !!! When it's cheaper, it's a disgrace. When it costs 5x more than the original, it's an "upgrade".
Vin Ellis No. that's called being a double standard hypocrite
The Bladed Brony !!! Exactly.
i was just able to add a Blue/Grey G-10 "dagger" model to my collection...$600, and it's never getting sold...unless i pick up a CF model...a few weeks ago i just missed out on a Green 2001 plain edge Amphibian...but the seller had the above mentioned Cobra for sale and a Brownish-grey 2004 satin/serrated Amphibian..so i bought both...then i REALLY STEPPED IN SHIT and SCORED a 2002 first gen Tachyon for $400.....my streak might just continue if i can close a deal on a 1999 BB/plain Kestrel m/a ....it's killing me that i don't have the cash right now....it would be my 45th MT....
What it might do the 2 ball bearings. Is it might reduce the chance of the blade bouncing forward and not locking in position.
Exactly! I realized that after receiving my custom Mikov which has that exact problem.
Wow, what is up with MicroTech just stealing everyones design lately? Yes, its better built than the Mikov, but thats no excuse.
And yet microtech complains about people stealing they're designs
Better built is debatable.
None of my mikov knives ever has had blade play. That's strange! They're one of the best knives on the market as far as I'm concerned. And the steel they use I can shave my face with it it's like a straight razor. Nope. Mikov knives are fantastic. The new once I bought do have pocket clips. But believe it or not, I really like them better without the clip.
good to know
the holes drilled in the microtech blade is just plain ugly.
great looking knives!. what is it with Microtech copying so much lately?. forst the Matrix now this?. Not saying that it bothers me or would make me not buy one, i mean, if its a great knife, its a great knife, just kinda strange is all
buying a mikov for my family. I can by one for each of us and still pay way less than the microtech.
The cobra does roll on bearings
من وكيل سكين ميكوف في السعودية ؟
Nice vid but what I got from this is that microtech cloned someone else knife. When all you see online in vids is people saying someone is cloning their knives and talking shit about it. I was in Tiawan around 16 to 18 years ago and purchased a lightning from a street vendor. I really want to know if the scarab from microtech has been around that long because all you see is people saying ooooohhhh the lightning is a scarab clone. I dont think it is; I think its the other way around. Now dont get me wrong microtech is making some dam fine knives but I want to see the facts straight.
The Microtech is uglier. Or maybe, more attuned to American tastes.
Thomas Ijon Tichy not even us Americans like the microtech
Yea. I gotta say, the Mikov is looking better to me. The thinner blade and more traditional styling. I am not a fan of false edge daggers though.
I'd rather have the mikov .
🤘
Mikov all day
😀
Mikov's range between $55 to $140. Microtech is $175 to $440. I do not think they step on each other's demographics. Mikov is a work knife. Microtech is pro combat. I would buy the Mikov myself because it is going to get the job done.
I love my switch blades own a good amount of them an here in cincy Ohio they are costly for the price of some of the hi end ones at the gun an knife shows here you could walk out with an ak or sks . Ohio it is still banned for carry here . but you can go in .most gheto corner stores an get China crap for 13 to 15 bucks in the hood.
Last name Mikov, first name Jack.
haha
My Mikov has a clip. It's my favorite knife, and I have many that are much more expensive. The Microtech is a overpriced copy. Any marketing spin touting the features that go into the premium price of the MIcrotech clone are just that -spin.
👊👊👊
+Trojanman5000
Sorry homie.
Micro have too much teenage style.
Sebastian Romero exactly, hate how it looks so tacticool, just make the original bad ass design
Mikov is knife from real life. Good version Stonewash is made of elite steel n690. www.mikov.cz/nuz-241-bh-1-stkp-stonewash/
But for $3,000 dollars....
Love the microtech except for the fact that they stole the design.
OSS, what is that? A bambi version of the S.O.E.? >:D
+martK banjoboy I think OSS was some Special Forces in ww2
It was a joke. O.S.S. was the derivative Office of Strategic Services controlled by US authorities (Think Wild Bill Donovan). The Strategic Operations Executive was controlled by British authorities (Think MI-6 etc).
martK banjoboy ok, thx ^^
Don't know when homie bought his knife , but they have gone up in price quite a bit. Gunbroker & guns America have them for ?$100 abs & $150& up for better ones. Microtec sux for just stealing designs of others with no regard for laws. Just like benchmade
Go to Mikovknives.com!!! Straight from the Czech Republic!!! for more info see my video...
troman5000 ya but the guy who sells them exclusively from Mikov uses PayPal and they don't allow the shipping out automatics. He doesn't take credit cards.
Marc Ribaudo Prices are the same as when I bought mine and when I bought mine, I used PayPal and had no problems!!!
Lvduggo69 Prices are same as when I bought mine and I ain't yer homie!!!
You can patent a design for 10 years, after that anyone can copy that design. Just sayin.. that’s copyright law
Thats funny when Cina clones sabenzas all these knife reviewers wete all over it .microtec does it then its OK.
CHINA
Were
to bad they're not legal to carry
In czech republik not problem.
Microtech is copy of Mikov.
yes
Lol, Microtech steals Czech product, seriously?
Zajímavé no 🤣🤣
yup
Unfortunately, steel used in Mikov is extremely shitty. You could cut blade like a cheese with top high carbon steel.
Mikov doesnt come with a pocket clip.
