    Cue floating cars phasing through the walls of the parking garage on the left.

    To simulate underground parking for downtown skyscrapers, I place some "parking lot roads" components inside the footprint of some of the buildings to complement the visible parking garages. I'll even add some to the parking garages to boost their capacity since they don't ever actually fill up to capacity.

    • @YUMBL
      @YUMBL  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Just wiped my collection of mods and downloads for a new start. Had 1,076 "pages" of downloaded stuff and no clue what most were or how many worked. Looking for a more realistic, and not so cumbersome, collection of stuff for the future. And I stumbled across this video....♥️
    I had traffic manager (kinda understood it) and RICO revisited (couldn't figure it out much at all). I have just gained more knowledge about these two then from watching dozens of other videos about these two! You made them so simple. I now know how to tackle my future builds.
    Realistic Population...didn't know about this one. But was always scratching my head with a large spawn office building had only 20 people in but a single family house would also have 20 people in it.
    Anyway... subscribing to your channel and will spend the rest of the day watching many of your videos!
    Thanks for making all three of these easy to understand, ESPECIALLY the RICO!

      The other addition you may want to do is "realistic cims" which basically adjusts the speed they move about the city, they look like they are running to places LOL. This MOD makes them walk in a more realistic speed and it looks so much better. Can't recall the exact name for that MOD but I think it is a MUST have.

    Just a note about levels for RICO revisited (I'm learning as well but I've seen it used in a few builds); Changing the level definitely makes a difference for the building, in that certain buildings will not strive depending on the land value around said building.
    In other words, if you have your shopping center as a level 3 building, but the land value around it is low (due to no parks, or city services, etc), it will become abandoned quickly. Think of it as a building upgrading in your city. As the land value goes up, buildings upgrade. Thus, having a high-level asset requires a high land value.
    I see this video is 2 years old, but if anybody is using this mod and also wonders what the levels are for, hopefully this helps a bit!

    I've been banging my head against a brick wall trying to figure out some of these mods without much success. Other TH-camrs, although well-meaning and very enjoyable, run through what they are doing way too fast with little or no explanation seeming to forget about those of us who are new. I really like the way you explain these things in detail without talking down to us or OVER-EXPLAINING...( this is a spoon, hold it in your hand, open your mouth...LOL)
    Thank you for explaining the RICO and also now I am able to change the decorations on roads like the trees and lights....AWESOME!!!
    Can you please tell me exactly with parking lot roads you are using in this video, or maybe you did and I missed it. I have some, lots actually, dealing with parking but they don't seem to be the correct ones.

    Great list! One thing I would add is the Real Time mod, which changes the timeline from days to hours (and allows you to control how quickly the hours pass, and has separate controls for day and night, so that if you want to see how your city looks at night, but don't want it to last forever, you can do that) creates realistic rush hours (suuuuuper challenging, with the realistic traffic of TMPE!), and creates 'events' at large unique buildings, which generate extra traffic. Extra challenges, for sure, but definitely more realistic.

    The trouble with stacking a high density residential on top of high density commercial is the residents will keep complaining, getting sick and dying of *noise pollution*...
    Love your series man. I felt particularly inspired by the road hierarchy and interchange episodes, and I have applied your interchange tutorials in several districts of my current city. I'd love to see if you have some tricks up your sleeve to manage the horrendous cargo harbor and cargo train station traffic.
    Keep up the good work!

    • @YUMBL
      @YUMBL  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thank you! You’re correct about the noise pollution. I recently turned noise pollution off using mods for just that reason. It no longer suits how I play.
      Cargo train and cargo harbor traffic are solved by switching from a cargo harbor to a cargo hub and creating an internal cargo train network. Creating trains instead of trucks to ship to stations throughout your city. See my “Internal Cargo Network” and “Guide to Cargo and Passenger Trains” video for ways to implement :)

    Ploppable RICO mod is the most overpowered one I've used in the game. I had 160,000 residents before and over 250,000 after a couple of hours of using it. I can also get people to work more because I can just place copes of the same building with hundreds of jobs in each one. Its so cool to turn a certain unique building into a residential, commercial, or office building. I also like how you can make low density residential buildings have fewer households and high density residential buildings have way more households. By the way thanks for making this video.

    My 2 cents on the realistic population mod: Just an assumed explaination how Paradox comes to this maximum of 32 workers or in general unrealistic low residental numbers even on bigger buildings: Per default as far as i know, only somewhat 65000 cims are going to be simulated at all in the game, (of course moddable) and to ensure that your city looks still large and great even with that amount of population, they seemed to take a compromise by "spreading" the residentals in more buildings, so your city looks bigger, but still has not that high population. If you e.g. build a skyscraper residental with 1000 families (3-4000 pop) you might only 20 of those to max calculated population, and what is a city with only 20 skyscrapers? ;) so what Paradox did, made sense when they programmed it at the beginning, they didnt know that we do have an awesome community to build mods, assets, and creating tons of great videos (count this one in ;) ) to make Cities Skylines community a great place to be in.
    Dont get me wrong, i dont see this mod useless, just explaining from Paradox potential site why the game mechanic in vanilla works as it works :)

    Well, time to get RICO revisited. I already have realistic pop revisited and it has doubled my city population. Interesting note: right before I found realistic pop I went through my city and completely remade my public transport (bus and metro) from scratch. I tried to build it to be as robust as possible. I then got realistic pop and watched 30,000 new cims move in. Surprisingly, my public transport *held up* to the massive spike in demand. I only needed to make small adjustments like adding more busses or a new bus/metro line. The existing PT infrastructure never buckled under the load although it is being tested rather hard.

      I get that, but does it make a difference when you convert a unique building to level x or level y? I’ve not noticed if a converted lvl 5 residential actually holds more people than any other level. With realistic population it uses the buildings dimensions, which are the same regardless of level, right?

    Great video. I don't know what to think about realism in Cities:Skylines. It's not exactly realistic for a town of 35,000 people to have 2000 people working or living in one building. Cities that size usually don't have big traffic problems. They typically have very little if any mass transit. All of this can change if the city is part of a larger metropolitan area, but cities in the game are typically on their own. I've decided to pretend that if the population number in the game is 35k, it's representing 350k. Just multiply by 10. And even then, there aren't many cities that size with really big skylines and a ton of mass transit. Atlanta, maybe, but it's the principal city in a much larger urban area.
    Either way, I'm getting back into the game after several years of not playing, so your channel and a few others have been valuable to me. Lots of new mods, and I have such a bad memory I couldn't even remember how to play anymore. Years before CS, I used to play SC4 and when I first got back into CS, the two were conflating in my brain. It's a process.
    Thanks.

    • @YUMBL
      @YUMBL  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What you’re describing realism wise has less to do with the mod and more to do with your decisions. A 2000 person residence or office wouldn’t fit well in a city that size. It may be more a matter of using buildings that are proportionate to the size of the city you want to design.

    • @saddestchord7622
      @saddestchord7622 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@YUMBL Yeah. I think it's that way because people want to have fun and build big cities, but limitations with the engine and computing in general just aren't up to it. They've sought to strike a balance and the mod is there to give the player more control on how it's balanced. It's just something that stuck me as weird after being away from the game for so long, seeing these 35 or 50k cities with all this infrastructure. I'm reluctant to add a bus line even when the city needs one because I haven't yet acclimated.

    I assume the "level" is the upgrade level, i.e. when you have zoned areas, the buildings upgrade from level 1 through level 5 as they meet their demands. A level 5 residential building would need well educated citizens to fill it.

      @YUMBL  3 ปีที่แล้ว
