I would say Kerbal Space Program and Minecraft also have a community that have optimisation mods, though so far I've liked Cities' community the most :)
The FPS Booster option "lower framerate when app loses focus" seems to be directly tied to your cinematic cameras as well. so although it is intended to be lowered while you tab away I actually leave it at 60fps so that i can get smooth cinemas.
So, a couple weeks ago I commented about having a ludicrously poor framerate despite having done all the tricks already. Finally found the solution thanks to a reply on my Steam thread on the subject. I went into the launcher options and forced the game to launch with DX9 instead of 11 or 12. I instantly went from 3-8 FPS to 60 FPS. I forget the exact command, but it should be easy enough to search for.

BIG agree with page file when talking about RAM. Even with a VERY modest list of mods (Mostly a single pack of roads and the "standard" suite of mods), I used al 16 gigs of RAM at about 80k population in my most recent city. On a hard drive, using the page file as much as cities would need to when exceeding the limit will CRIPPLE your game to a near unplayable framerate, with stutter and lag galore. It's borderline impossible to play. On a SSD, it's a much better experience, but it's going to rip through the lifespan of your drive and is VERY unrecommended for long-term use. Really, he is telling the truth when he says that you either need to trim your mods or upgrade your RAM. It's unfortunate but there's no way around it
I have a mid range desktop gaming PC with a Nvidia 2060 super. No issues there. I upgraded from 16 MB to 32 MB of ram and noticed a significant difference in game performance. I also feel that I could move up to 64 and might not use that but would improve the overall gameplay. It still takes an eternity to load the game initially but once in game I don’t have any issues with FPS unless there was something that didn’t load properly. This is a great video but I think it proves that a new version of the game is necessary So that more people can enjoy the Modded game. If I was on Consol or didn’t have a PC that could handle any mods I would be pretty disappointed to play the vanilla game when you see all the customization that can be done to this game.
Someone actually calculates that 45-46% is CS' equivalent to actual speed in real life The good thing about setting the game to that speed is that even if we chose to sped up our game once, the speed will double to 90% which is also what YUMBL said to be beneficial to our PC!
That was a LOD to take in LOL. Very insightful on LOD and how to modify to optimize frame rate. Also the directions for load order mod made a improvement on eliminating errors I was noticing on game load. Videos are very helpful to newbies like me.
Lower LOD asset versions use less triangles so are less detailed and therefore less RAM/CPU usage. You can make less detailed versions in prgrams like Blender (free). Its similar to builds made in Second Life.
Great tips! Another thing that affects frame rates is where you point the camera. Point it away from high activity in your city (like the more rural areas) and watch the frames increase. Point to your downtown and it will decrease. When I want to see the best frame rates I find the best compromise in camera position.
Thanks for this! il try out the speed slider since i havent yet. also the Hide it mod gave me a few extra frames by hiding things i didnt really notice anyways (animals, decorations etc)
You are fast becoming my favorite Skyliner on TH-cam. I already have all of these mods except LOM, gotta get that asap. I run speed slider v2 at 60% just so my cims walk at a more realistic pace. Even with these mods I still get less than 20 fps downtown. My system is older (i7-6850k oc'd, gtx 1070 oc'd, 32gb ram xmp) but at this point I think my game is slow as the main world thread is doing to much. My gpu just sits there at maybe 50% load which is a sign that the cpu can't feed it fast enough, even at 4.5ghz. This game has terrible optimization XD
You called that old? I play this game on a freaking i3-3220, GTX 750 Ti, and 8GB but only 3-4 is available, the rest is eat up by the system. If you called that old then my must be in the stone age.
i have a ryzen 2700x and an rtx 2060. i livestream at 1080/60 with no issues. granted, i don't have crap ton of assets or mods, but i do have the essentials. like you said, it's all about working within your system capabilities. i'm always scared of using too many mods or assets because there was a stretch of time when my cities would get ruined. my favorite mod is speed slider.
im running on a laptop with 7.8 gigs of ram these mods took so much load off my ram and gpu i no longer have to run potato graphics on bigger cities thank you
9:29 How much fps do you get from using the FPS Booster? I've seen some comments on FPS Booster steam workshop saying that the mod improves twice as many fps before. Personally, I use the mod but I didn't get that much of fps boost probably just around 15-20% of increase (In my case, Visibility Control LOD settings affect more performance). Also, the game (after the mod) does not seem to utilize 99% of all the gpu anymore (usually around 60-70%~) causing it to averaging around 35fps~ when completely new map/saves instead 50fps~ when vanilla (the 99% GPU Utilizations is only when the camera pointed, located, or zoom out away from the crowded cities). Do you have any thoughts on this?
Thanks for the tips. I can't wait to try them, although I'm pretty afraid what all these extra mods might do to my loading time. Even with the loading screen mod active, the game takes anywhere from 30-45 minutes to load so I'm sort of "gun shy" these days when it comes to adding anything. Nevertheless, the tips are very much appreciated since you've shown me things I never knew existed or how things actually worked when it came to certain mod options. Now, if I can only figure out how to make my cities looks as beautiful as yours..hmm.... :)
A few more: Bypass Paradox Loader - Not an actual mod but a reconfiguration to load directly into the game. Less Steam - Suppresses calls to Steam for faster loading. Load Order Mod removes the advertising panels on the title screen but I'm not sure if it removes the actual calls. Skip Intro - Save a few more seconds while loading. Stacking the above together along with Loading Screen Mod significantly reduces the time it takes to get into the game. Instant Return to Desktop - Save time while quitting. Monitor It! - Doesn't cover everything but is a convenient in-game performance panel with utilization figures. Dynamic Resolution - Ostensibly for increasing detail via supersampling but can be used to decrease as well. Useful for potato PCs. Transfer Broker - Moves traffic AI to its own two threads. Helpful to squeeze a little more utilization out of higher thread count CPUs.
DYK I was one of your first subscribers (I love to keep up with all my fellow designers) I haven’t watched one of your vids in a while so it’s nice to see how far you’ve come, your presentation is so much better and your content has really improved. Here’s my question what are the specs of your system? It will be quite interesting to know and to see how it matches up with my specs I rarely get performance issues unless I go into full customization. Great work as usual and when did you pass a 1000 subscribers ? lol.
@@YUMBL Good to know we run in similar fields . That means this video extremely useful. I’ve used all suggestions since they’re arrival.. Loading screen mod is my most necessity but I’ve yet to try out Load Order Mod I’ve looked at it but haven’t gotten around to it.. My specs are also not high end but it’s a great little system AMD RYZEN 7 5800x, AMD RX 6800xt, 48gb ram
Of course all of the frames I save with these tips will only allow me to load in more mods that eat up frames, lol. I suppose it's about what you're willing to accept.
Good advices when it comes to improving performance. As a curiosity LOD objects are often combined and rendered as one object which greatly improves performance. Unfortunately it has some drawbacks, like e.g. all objects needs to use one texture, so game needs to create big texture atlas with textures of all LOD objects. If game can't fit all textures in full res in the atlas, all will be downscaled. With regards to 11:20, increasing fps at loading screen might significantly speed up loading process because some parts of loading process are divided into chunks and processed each frame, so more frames per second, less time spend on those type of tasks. Some of the mods also spread their work across multiple frames to not block loading other things. If you are waiting 2-3 min to load savegame probably won't see much difference, but if you love assets and PO the difference might be even 30-40% of loading time. I'll add a note about that in the upcoming update ;)
The page file (about the loading screen mod) is automatically managed by windows, so fiddling around really isnt recommended if you dont know what you are doing. Dont touch it, but also you dont need more ram necessarily if you cant afford it/add it to your system.
I don't have the best computer speed wise, it's not a gaming setup. I changed my gameplay settings from high to medium resolution to help with my frame rate. My current city is using the realistic population mod and I have a great transit system. My traffic is at about 78%, I have a population of 330,000 and 6% unemployment. The fps seems to be quite good and smooth scrolling, I only get the odd slow down or stoppage when it does a save which is around 5 seconds. If I was to change back to the High settings I know it wouldn't even load as I get the cities.exe is not responding notice. I try not to have to many mods running but I have enough to enjoy the game.
I watched this after experiencing major lag when I hit 65k population (metropolis milestone). I only have a few mods...81 tiles, move it, TMPE, and a few vehicle assets. I tried these mods and your advice and nothing worked. 3x speed was like 1x speed, terraforming was a joke in some spots. I pushed through after reading up on this issue and seeing most people talking about it being the game and not optimized. I didn't notice any difference in performance after trying out these mods and settings so I turned them off. I hit 80k population and the final milestone. It was literally like a switch. Same as when I hit 65k, everything went to shit. Then hit the final milestone and it was back to normal. 3x speed, terraforming, like nothing ever happened.
My Vietnam Cities skyline community always recommend Page file. Glad I know better than them that faking RAM isn’t much better than real RAM. They really always try to find a short cut in everything.
@@YUMBL I was wondering about that. I just watched your realistic intersection video, clicked subscribe, and have your mod video queued. Your city looks amazing and I love all the unique, realistic assets.
Just another thing just in case anyone is watching this in late 2023. What people forget is that capping your fps or reducing it from say 100+ to 30 or 60 fps is possibly a major, major power saving on your energy bill.. Overhere in my country electricity and gas is so expensive now.... Like truly silly (especially compared to the US prices)... If you shave of 40 frames a second... In a months time that could save you 30 euros a month... Another thing if you have an overly powerful system with say a 4090 or something and the game itself is actually bottlenecking you at a pretty low framerate... Make sure to power limit your GPU itself so it doesn't still go full power usage even though it only spits out half the frames. Again, major, major power usage and cost saver.
Load order is great. Its just a bit more advanced than most other mods. As in takes more savvy to implement. I’ve actually got a few mods since starting to use it so i should probably run it for harmony order again.
I use to play SimCity 2000, great game... Guess I will give a try to this one in 2025 if they even release some new version that help around multi-core performance. I wouldn't bother playing if big cities are so much a problem, I love complex things and this game seem to struggle a lot on this old engine at end-game. People talking about running on 64-128GB of RAM with a proper M.2 via PCI-E 4.0 for high OPS using another 64-128GB of virtual memory is way too much :(
Wow! I thought I had to buy a whole new PC. I did upgrade my ram from 8G (yes, 8!) to 38G. But the problems had I with crashes on saving.. weren't solved with ram, obvs. Thanks for the easy to understand instructions.
9:42 there's a skyscraper right above the word "options". I would be very grateful if you or someone else could leave a link to it (or tell me its name).
Wonder why the simulation has no optimization whatsoever. I'm sure there are aspects which could be further simplified or follow a more hierarchical structure to reduce the amount of calculations the CPU needs to perform per clock cycle especially if it's not pertinent to the gameplay or analyzing of the simulation data. It would also help with reducing the amount of RAM required to run the system. I'm sure the traffic simulation could be significantly optimized by not having to keep track of all realtime agents everywhere on the map and just instead rely on general traffic density routing data and compare it with the effective capacity of the road to estimate traffic congestion. This could be triggered based on the FOV distance and camera location. I'm sure it could also make it much easier to have more 'active realtime agents' whenever the camera is within an adequate FOV distance of a location that you could have hundreds if not thousands of simulation agents within view of the camera and not utterly decimate your CPU, GPU and RAM utilization and would give so much more life to the city without really breaking any immersion because really it doesn't take much to depict lots of activity if your smart with where specifically it's implemented and how smooth the transition is.
Went and subscribed to these mods, but learned the hard way that the FPS Booster mod isn't compatible with the latest macOS version (I'm on 11.4 "Big Sur"); for unknown reasons, the mod throws an error on game start when it tries to load the latest patches, and the error logs basically say to disable / unsubscribe from the patch loader and FPS Booster. The developer's notes on the mod do say it's "mostly" Mac and Linux compatible, so I'm guessing it needs some kind of update to work correctly with the latest OS. Posting here so any other folks playing this on Mac are aware. Please no comments about my choice of platform. I'm 51 and you're not going to make this tiger change his stripes at this point. 😉
Oh, when subscribing to mods do so individually. Reading and understanding each one before implementing it. You may find you dont need some. I have a huge collection in my links and people are hitting “subscribe to all” without looking at them. Be careful!
@@YUMBL I’m not so indiscriminate as that. 😜😅 Out of your list of 30-something mods used for Twitch and TH-cam, I think I only subscribed to 10. I just look for “quality of life” mods and relatively easy enhancer mods like Node Controller or Intersection Marking Tool. Just stuff that lets me maintain my “zen garden” style without going into all kinds of über-control or OCD.
You should follow all instructions from the dialog once you enable PatchLoader. If you skip that part you will see that error every time you start the game which basically says that FPS Booster is not working because PatchLoader (core dependency) has not been initialized correctly at game start (game needs to be started in slightly different way and I can't automate that process). If you haven't seen that dialog with instructions, open content manager in game, go to Mods/PatchLoader nod and then re-enable it. I don't have MacOS so I can't create a clip showing the process in details. You may also ask why you need to do some manual things - because of a Unix(MacOS/Linux) way of handling specific libraries the mod requires to run, sadly.
@@krzysztofg7677 Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, I already tried modifying that JSON config to point to the CitiesLoader.sh script instead of default ../MacOS/Cities with no better luck. After doing that, even with a restart or disabling/re-enabling PatchLoader, the PatchLoader mod gives an error that it couldn't find a config file. I'm guessing this has something to do with the ever-increasing security lockdowns happening in MacOS. It *might* also be due to the fact I keep my Steam installs on an external HDD instead of my built-in 1TB SSD, simply to save space with all the massive Steam downloads I have, but that seems unlikely. I appreciate the effort to help me debug this. If I find down the road that I'm starting to see FPS issues I'll take another look at this. But right now, I'm still working on getting a city over about 2,500 population without losing track of all the essentials that need to be in place and the city dying a horrible death. So FPS worries are probably still a ways off for me. 😉
@ClanOMoraign to bad it doesn't work (I assume you didn't (un)subscribe mods while game was running). The other reason for that error might be "wrong" order of launching apps. Somehow to make it work you need to start Steam first and then the game. Maybe that was the issue? Anyways, I've got reports from other MacOS users it works but looking into their logs it seems like they are still on 10.x so you might be right about OS version, sadly.
Other than being restricted to 16GB of RAM (no where near enough with all my workshop content loaded) I was shocked at how well the M1 MacBook Air ran this game. I'm chomping at the bit for Apple to release an Apple Silicon Mac that can take at least 32GB, or even better a 64GB RAM machine. My wallet is ready!
Dangit. I'm already doing everything except the speed slider and LOM (have it, but haven't set it up) and I still drop to 3 FPS when I zoom in on a nearly empty map. I'm running an R5 3600, 32 GB RAM, and an RX 580... not great, but not a potato. Absolute best I can manage is 30 FPS and I don't even have 1,000 cims in my current city. Got rid of some mods that were supposedly broken, didn't make a huge difference. Set ULOD to cut things pretty quickly, but that doesn't help when you zoom in. Keep searching for an answer and coming up empty.
FPS Booster on: My GPU temp hovers between 95 and 100 degrees celsius. Turn it off, temp lives around 60. The mod is amazing, but 100 degrees can't be good right? I took the mod out.
Guys be really careful with your gpu temp, you can check it in task manager, for example i had to limit my fps at 40 because my graphics card (gtx 1650s) was reaching 75 degrees
I have followed your advice on several of your videos and it has assisted greatly - thank you!!. Although loading time and FPS have greatly improved for some reason it takes me ages to open my landscaping tab, if I select trees via the find it mood I have no issues?? Any advice from your side?? Thanx for awesome content!!
You probably have that old prop mod running. The one that makes vanilla props ploppable, when find it does the same thing. Get rid of “more beautification” ;)
Sadly it looks like the latest version of FPS Booster seems to have dropped the option to reduce loading screen fps. In version 0.7.1 it simply doesn't exist.
Could be for older or les core CPUs I noticed my gpu and cpu had a problem with not doing anny thing in the game.. Cpu 25 % 8 cores, gpu rtx 3070 8gb using 97 - 99 vram.. With no mods or assets.. It hogs more virtual ram rather the physical ram me having 16 gb ram it use at max 11..ok well windows does take 4 or 3 gb so it takes it.. But after forcing my game on Nvidia to run in Resizable Bar (expanding the cpu to gpu buffer) letting it work more efficiently) and applying msi tool message signal based interrupts... My fps went up 25% utilizing my system and that optimized my system
So how come Cities Skylines is dumping assets in my page file (located on a fast m.2 nvme ssd though), instead of ALL my ram? I have 64GB of ram in my system and when I load up my city it take 38GB of physical ram and 42GB of the page file. Why does it not use more physical ram, for example 58GB physical ram usage and then only 22GB in the page file? I agree with you saying, don't use a page file, but add to it, "on a hard disk". A sata ssd is already somewhat better, but still limited due to the latency over sata, and of course an m.2 nvme ssd is the best choice since those have a direct link to the cpu and can give you the highest IOPS (Input Output (operations) Per Second) that any storage device currently can give you. With the newest PCI-E 4.0 equipped motherboards you can even get m.2. nvme ssd's that go up to 1,4 million IOPS in read speed, and as far as I know that is roughly HALF the speed of your average ram. My current m.2. ssd does 700,000 IOPS, but that is still over PCI-E 3.0 on 6 year old ASUS-X99-A motherboard. It's also wise to simply check ALL the background processes before starting the game, the less CPU usage of any program or service whatsoever, the better. Check that out in the right corner how many 'agents' you see, and use task manager (or CCleaner) or disable all those services you don't need. Many of them are for example services that constantly check for updates, which is not necessary. You don't a daily update on your GPU driver, or Adobe Flash or Java, or Anti-Spyware programs, this you do all manually when you see fit. Every one of these items might be small, but add up pretty well if you don't do anything.
I went through last night and purged a bunch of assets- I have 24GB of ram and as my city has grown now it's edging closer and closer to that and turns orange (on the loading screen mod) just as the city finishes loading
In my experience it don't matter how much ram you throw at this game. When I had 16gb the game would use 12-13gigs. I upgraded to 32 and now it's using 26-28gigs no new mods whatsoever.
I actually think you have building LODs turned a little too high. You'll notice that when you're zoomed out, all the little windows and details look kind of nasty, with jagged edges and such; that's because there's just physically not enough pixels in your screen to squeeze together all that detail. The next level of LOD uses lower resolution textures and models, which means all those details become a bit less... detailed, which looks better at a distance. So LOD has a secondary purpose as well, it's not purely for performance. Of course this is all down to personal preference in the end, and it also depends on like, the resolution of your monitor and such; there are also other things you can do to make the visuals look better, like anti-aliasing or anisotropic filtering.
as someone whos played this game since launch I really just just start with removing old assets. Unity is the real issue at the core, I'm not sure which version its based on (at least its a 64 bit one, that was a major issue in Kerbal space program 32bit only allowing 3.5gb)
with the paint color, it depends on how fast the drive you're running it from is. if your paint color is on a super fast NVME SSD, your should be ok, but absolutely do not run Cities on a page file if your page file is on a SATA spinning disk, or even a SATA SSD.
If you run data into your page file and your page file is on an NVME SSD you are shortening the drives lifespan. You need to get more ram. Never run it off the page file especially if its any kind of SSD.
Sorry I'm confused with getting all missing assets shown in the loading screen mod. Wouldn't the inclusion of those assets (mostly small props in my case) be an extra burden on your computer resources?
Disagree with the page file point. I use a dedicated 500GB SSD as a page file, and that has absolutely allowed me to expand my asset collection far beyond my computer's RAM limitations. I would have recommended that people use a hard drive *not* running C:S to set up a page file (using the same one as C:S causes crashes).
@@YUMBL motherboard only supports up to 32GB and that's what I have installed. Page files work, just can't be on the same drive as the installation. Been using this technique successfully for years.
Sir, I have Core i5 6 gen with DDR4 8gb ram and amd radeon r7 200 series 2GB graphic card. Please suggest to me the best mods and settings run cities skyline smoothly Thanks
I always hear how people are running on 8,000+ steam assets, which blows my mind. I'm keeping mine under 2.5k with most of the DLCs. Maybe some day CS2 will be able to run that many without lagging or the aver computer will be able that many.
Yeah dude. Human eye won't see much or any difference higher than 60fps. Besides, it turns your pc into jet engine ready to take off, turn my room into an oven, raising my bills and kills my hardware especially GPU faster. I only use more fps if i want to do some benchmark or doing some stability test. This why i always suggests my friends that wanted to buy used GPU to check for any fan issue or some overheat mark before buying unless they sell it much more cheaper.
and i have a good experience with pagefile size loads way faster but still can have issue after 4000 assets of ram max usage for load but i can keep going lmao ALSO ran this on win 11 and it does run way better even without the directstorage dunno bout that yet though
@@YUMBL Wait...48GB? I thought RAM was in a 2x2, 2x4, 2x8, 2x16, 4x2, 4x4, 4x8, 4x16, etc configuration because of DIMM sizes and the number of channels (single, dual, quad)...What configuration is a 48GB kit?
It's pretty wild how the community optimised the game for the developers. How many game communities are that supportive?
Cities is a rare treat :)
Rimworld. That's another community. Those folks are insane 😂
The best way to play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. isn't even with the original game anymore but rather standalone mods like Anomaly, Gunslinger and A.R.E.A.
I bought the university city add on along with the campus dlc and I actually had to install the theme manager mod to use it lol
I would say Kerbal Space Program and Minecraft also have a community that have optimisation mods, though so far I've liked Cities' community the most :)

Thank you very much! :)
You called that old?
I play this game on a freaking i3-3220, GTX 750 Ti, and 8GB but only 3-4 is available, the rest is eat up by the system. If you called that old then my must be in the stone age.
Don't even play cities skylines anymore but still watch all your videos lol
Thanks for being here :)
i have a ryzen 2700x and an rtx 2060. i livestream at 1080/60 with no issues. granted, i don't have crap ton of assets or mods, but i do have the essentials. like you said, it's all about working within your system capabilities. i'm always scared of using too many mods or assets because there was a stretch of time when my cities would get ruined. my favorite mod is speed slider.
I run an rtx2060 as well. The great thing is it has a dedicated encoder. 1080p60 always.
Great content. And your subscribers are increasing rapidly as deserved. Keep up the great work!
Thanks a lot :)
cities syklines 2 really needs a better optimised engine.. or at least a option to turn off citizen, cars etc.
Turning off citizen, cars is not an option for a good City game. It needs to have a engine that fits city building, and not fps'
I had no idea that speed slider saves you some fps. Will definitely try it out. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching :)
Love the speed slider. More FPS and more realism. Win-win.
Just found you and your content is great. Keep it up and I will follow you into the mists of Avalon!
Welcome in! :)
im running on a laptop with 7.8 gigs of ram these mods took so much load off my ram and gpu i no longer have to run potato graphics on bigger cities thank you
9:29 How much fps do you get from using the FPS Booster?
If you haven't found a career yet, you should be a video trainer for large companies. You have the voice and the upbeat feel for it.
That sounds amazing! I actually just went part time at my day job to have time to create more. If i had a day job using my voice id love it
Thanks for the tips. :)
You can use loading screen mod to exclude loading vanilla assets to save space and reduce load times :)
@@YUMBL Ooh, I did not realize that - excellent! See -- there's yet another thing you taught me today. Thank you!
this is the best tutorial about mods that aren't full of random unnecessary things
Glad to help! :)
A few more:
Bypass Paradox Loader - Not an actual mod but a reconfiguration to load directly into the game.
Great work as usual and when did you pass a 1000 subscribers ? lol.
RTX2060, i7 8700, 48gb RAM.
@@YUMBL Good to know we run in similar fields . That means this video extremely useful. I’ve used all suggestions since they’re arrival.. Loading screen mod is my most necessity but I’ve yet to try out Load Order Mod I’ve looked at it but haven’t gotten around to it..
My specs are also not high end but it’s a great little system
AMD RYZEN 7 5800x, AMD RX 6800xt, 48gb ram
Correct! I would never typically recommend adjusting the page file. Buying more RAM is generally the answer.
Just a comment for the algor rythm. This channel needs a bigger following.
Thanks a lot! :)
"manage your expectations"... wisest words I may have ever heard lol
Always! (But especially with Cities)
You saved my city game! Thanks dude
Glad to help!
My Vietnam Cities skyline community always recommend Page file.
Glad I know better than them that faking RAM isn’t much better than real RAM.

Sadly, I am at the limit for RAM... 32GB... My next step is new PC.
Damn DDR3 limit...
Thank you for your video, you have nice tutorials and your vid about realism changed my view on Rico. Keep it up!
Thank you! :)
Best thing to do is use the load order tool and then change loads by harmony order and bam 100 mods from stock order to epic fast load
Load order is great. Its just a bit more advanced than most other mods. As in takes more savvy to implement. I’ve actually got a few mods since starting to use it so i should probably run it for harmony order again.
Thank you very much bro ! Helped me very !
I use to play SimCity 2000, great game...
Guess I will give a try to this one in 2025 if they even release some new version that help around multi-core performance.
I wouldn't bother playing if big cities are so much a problem, I love complex things and this game seem to struggle a lot on this old engine at end-game.
People talking about running on 64-128GB of RAM with a proper M.2 via PCI-E 4.0 for high OPS using another 64-128GB of virtual memory is way too much :(
Great vid. Just installed it all except for the last one mentioned. My Mac is 4 years old which in today’s vocab, is near Jurassic lol.

Thanks! Theyre in my “about” page :)
I honestly think that the cars and sims are way to fast for it to be "realistic". So the speed slider comes in handy :)
True, realistic speed is about 40% of the default game speed.
Well done.. your explantations always got the point :-) Thanks
btw. can you publish a list of your used mods?
Thank you! Mods are linked in my about.
Thank you Yumbl! Very useful and my PC will be less miserable now (I hope ;) )
Nice! :)
I got 32gb ram and ive modded it to a point where it uses 30 gb
Time to buy 2x32 sticks :D
You should get more ram or less assets :)
@@YUMBL More RAM obviously 😂
Yup, same here lmao
64 GB RAM here, and with the number of assets I use about 10 GB ends up in the page file upon load, afterwards it goes down to about 45 GB
I usually run my game at 30% with speedslider, any faster with 3500 custom assets and 70k population means 10 or less FPS
75 is fine for a GPU
Celcius, Fahrenheit, or both? ;)

All that matters is that the “top number” in Loading Screen Mod doesn’t turn orange or red. That means you have enough ram.
I went through last night and purged a bunch of assets- I have 24GB of ram and as my city has grown now it's edging closer and closer to that and turns orange (on the loading screen mod) just as the city finishes loading
Ornage is ok. It just means you can’t add much more.
Thanks ' again, interesting stuff
Thanks for watching! :)
ty very much for this..... this helps a lot!!!!!!!!!!
:)
as someone whos played this game since launch I really just just start with removing old assets.
Perhaps, but not having those props used within assets may cause issues. Maybe try getting them and see if it helps/hurts
WAT UP! THIS IS VERY USFULL CONSIDERING I HAVE A POTATO PRO PLUS PC :3
Good! :)
You should buy more ram.
@@YUMBL motherboard only supports up to 32GB and that's what I have installed. Page files work, just can't be on the same drive as the installation. Been using this technique successfully for years.
It definitely works. The latency is massive though, and will reduce performance. Id prefer fewer assets to loading assets into the page file.
Sir, I have Core i5 6 gen with DDR4 8gb ram and amd radeon r7 200 series 2GB graphic card. Please suggest to me the best mods and settings run cities skyline smoothly Thanks

Maybe some day CS2 will be able to run that many without lagging or the aver computer will be able that many.
I’ve got plenty at 2600-2700 assets.
What a gorgeous city design! is it downloadable, it has so many features to learn from!
Thank you! Its not on the steam workshop, no.
What are the RBG meter of your black roads? I want too use them as well (I already know the mod)
I have a video called “dark roads” that explains my settings.
Okay, thanks!
Hello, how do you make your roads look darker?
Yes, but 120 fps absolutely looks smoother than 60.
and i have a good experience with pagefile size loads way faster but still can have issue after 4000 assets of ram max usage for load but i can keep going lmao
ALSO ran this on win 11 and it does run way better even without the directstorage dunno bout that yet though
