Hi Dawn, Love your colours! I have knitted mine magic loop. I just knitted the cuff starting with K2 and then just switched it back when I come to the cable. Another tip is if you are starting with a purl, purl the first stitch and then place the yarn to the back of the work and tug a little bit before you purl the next stitch. That should fix any tension issues. In terms of the stair striped I just made sure i stretched out the fabric a bit when a started knitting with the new colour yarn. As the yarn is travelling a few rows at the back of the work. I am so excited for clue 2!! Isn’t it fun! x x
Hello my lovely, really interesting video and discussion around knitting magic loop, some very good tips and pointers. Well done you for persevering and I am looking forward to watching your journey as you progress xxx
I found the left leg pattern must less fiddly to work in the cable section! Cabling in front was much more smooth for me than the Back cables in the right leg. I’m using 9 in circs. Flew through left foot compared to the right. Love your colours ❤
I’m so pleased you preserved..😉😉😉 I think starting on the left sock would have been easier… I’ve managed to conquer starting with a purl using magic loop… but it would have been good to have included that in the how to video… I’m loving this sock, also my first SW, can’t wait for clue 2… your colours are lovely, so well done …👏👏😊😊
Hi Dawn, your socks are looking fabulous so far, I really live the colour contrast you are using. Magic loop is my preferred method of making socks. I haven't yet made any of Stephen West's patterns but you might just inspire me to have a go. I agree that his shawls are perhaps too big a project to start of with. Thanks Dawn, take care Xx❤
Thanks Fran 😁 I'm glad I didn't give up because I'm really enjoying them now. I think his honeycomb hat is probably a bit easier to start with but I like a challenge 🤣😘
Hi Dawn! I'm not doing the KAL. I'm knitting my Christmas in July socks and I got the first one done. 🥰🎄 I'm using the All is Calm pattern on the WYS Silent Night colorway. ❤ I'm glad your sock finally worked out for you.
Hi Dawn. Love your colorways! I just got my yarn so I’m a bit behind, but I don’t mind. I just enjoy the knit. I’m a total DPN sock knitter, but I can’t stand to start a needle with a purl stitch. When I run into that situation I just move my BOR a stitch or two over so that I’m starting the needle on a knit. So far I’ve been lucky and that little adjustment has worked out. My main color is bright orange with a forest green tonal contrasting color. Time to cake yarn and get going. (Currently working on some Tits Up Socks by Nancy Wheeler and I’m really loving the pattern.) Salam wa sa’aadah
Arch dawn, I know how you felt I’m managing loop too, and I fell in trap of actually doing k2p2 to bein with and then saw peoples comments, and just switched it around, im pleased with mine, but do fear size
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the SSA. I knit on magic loop. I'm not keen on a purl stitch starting a row but it's not the first time I've done it as one of Kay Jones patterns has that but only one row of the pattern repeat. I did think about shifting the start over on the rib by two stitches but as I wasn't getting a ladder I decided to persevere! I'm on Ravelry but don't do IG much. Looking forward to clue 2. SW gives a suggestion if you want to shorten the leg which I may do. I don't like long legs lol. and if it were up to me I'd go straight to the heel flap etc from clue 1. Jane xx
Wow! I had trouble moving to the cable section. The pattern was written well, I just wasn't paying enough attention and missed a P2K2 repeat and didn't figure that out until I got toward the end of the row and the stitches didn't count out properly. When ripping, it frayed the yarn a bit and I ignored it. Got to cable Row 3 and totally missed the P2 at the end of the repeated pattern....all the way around. I was tempted to go on, but good sense told me to rip it back to midway through the ribbing and just keep going. Wish me luck! It sounds like you persevered! 'Hope I can too!

Hi Dawn, love the colours, the pattern and your tenacity 😂xx

Ooo that's really good to know Susan. If I can get clue 2 done quickly, I'll cast on the 2nd sock 👍😘😘

Yes I agree, I think a magic loop video would be really useful. I'm really enjoying clue 2.... so far 🤣🤣😘

Oh Dawn ,,!!! It looks so good!!!
Good feedback,,,,if I decide to give it a try!!!
Never done a west knits pattern or cables,,,,

Wait until you see clue 2... Another technique I have never done 🤣🤣🤣😘
With magic loop I pull on the second stitch on each needle and it gets rid of the ladder for me. I love the socks so far.
Thanks my lovely 🥰 I think a video for that technique would have been great but I'm glad I stuck at it 😁😘

You'll definitely be ok on dpns Linda 💪 I've not heard of those socks, I'll take a look 😘😘

I've not even attempted to try mine, I've already resigned myself to them being house socks 🤣🤣😘

Yes they're definitely much longer than I would usually knit 🤣 I'm thinking they will be my winter house socks 🤣😘

Oh no 😱 I totally feel your frustration!!! If I hadn't committed to filming them I'd have given up but I'm so glad I didn't 😁😘
