    🤦‍♂️
    I’m so used to ribbing starting with knits and the purls that I just automatically assume that’s how it was. So I guess I’m knitting the left sock first and then the right sock because the left sock does start that way.

    Hi,
    I love to follow you and your instructions are among the best.
    There is one thing I learned from my grandmothers (yes, I had two to teach me; sounds like hamony, but life can be soooo differnt from our ideas).
    They both casted on holding two needles in their right hands. So the knits are a bit wider and the first round is much easier to knit.
    Best regards, Claudia

    • @resourcedragon
      @resourcedragon ปีที่แล้ว

      Norman of the "Nimble Needles" channel also does that. I usually use a needle a couple of sizes larger than the needles I'm going to be using for the ribbing to get that extra stretch when I cast on.

    Loving the first clue!
    I’m fat, so my legs and foot needs different sized socks. I usually knit short socks, so that I don’t need to think about it, but that’s obviously not an option for this pattern. Will it be possible to decrease stitches after the heel so that I can get a sock that fits both my leg and my foot?

      I Just Read That Some People Do K2togs After A Section To Drop Down To The Next Size, Say 84sts To 72sts... To Get A Smaller Sock, From A Bigger Cuff. I Don't Know How Good This Will Work, But Maybe It's An Option For You.

    • @StephenWest
      @StephenWest  ปีที่แล้ว +11

      You could knit the next leg section shorter so the leg isn't as long. Another option is to cast on a size larger for the cuff and leg and then when we decease stitches later before the foot, you could decrease more stitches to get a smaller foot circumference.

    Stephen, I've got a 10" cable sock set. Would it be better to use a 40" cable for magic loop or would the 10" Knitters Pride sock set be okay? I have both, as well as double pointed sock needles.

    • @StephenWest
      @StephenWest  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The 10” should work I think with the stitches stretched out a bit over that circumference. The magic loop may be more comfortable though. I love magic loop for hats and sweater sleeves but I found that DPNs are my favorite way to knit socks. I like the long DPNs and how they feel in my hands because I have larger hands.

      @delilahdolittle1623 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are you a member of Ravelry? Your question might be answered faster over there - in the forum - many helpful knitters there. I think it is up to you - if you want to carry the end behind the slipped stitches and keep on weaving it in, or stop and snip off the remaining tail when you get to the slipped stitches. Also depends on how long the end is I suppose. This is just my opinion. I am not a professional knitter 😀

      @@delilahdolittle1623 I am on Ravelry (xraymd) and that is a capital idea! I do the weavin' stephen cross after any knit stitches. I just let the yarn float along the back of the work when I slip stitches. Then, continue doing the weavin' stephen after the other knit stitches until I've done about 10 - 12 wraps.

    I’m not very good at different cast ons, is this cast on a stretchier one than a standard cable cast on? I’m very excited to start, just winding my yarn that I picked up today. 🥰

      It’s a bit stretchy, yes. If you prefer any other cast on for your socks then they should work great as long as your cast on doesn’t feel too tight around the top part of your ankle.

      Thank you Stephen, I’ve done my normal cast on and it’s quite stretchy, so far I have done both ribbed cuffs and excited to start the cables today. This is my first knit a long with you and will be the first time to knit two adult sized socks.

    Isn't it necessary to trap your floats when using 2 colors (lines 5-8)? I didn't notice you doing that. Why not?

      You're Slipping Stitches, Which Means You Just Carry The Yarns Up The Inside. You're Not Doing Colorwork, So No Floats!

      @@KathleenNelson-e3m: You're only slipping two stitches at a time, so there's no need to worry about floats or catching them. The 10 stitches are just a straight knit and they don't have any yarn running behind them.

    Instead of casting on 60 stitches, can I cast on 64 stiches instead? I have always used this size.

    • @resourcedragon

      The pattern relies on there being a multiple of 12 stitches, so I don't think you could.

    Hi Stephen. I didn't buy your sock pattern, and I'm not planning to make such socks. But I do like this 'stair-step' stitch-pattern. You show it very clearly in this video, so probably you don't mind if I use this stitchpattern in another knitting project, do you?
