I totally agree Chris. I'm a huge fan of John Prine, RIP. But I'd like to add also that this was originally a Blaze Foley song that John Prine covered. I recentlly discovered Blaze. He's an amazing talent with a tragic story. I love all his work. RIP to Blaze also.

Glenn I'm thinking that Blaze Foley only capo d from the A string down leaving the 6th string open. Its the only way I can do the walk up between verses on the E string. Please let me know what you think. (Thank you Tom )
I've watched a few videos over the years about Travis picking and I see there are lots of variations. But I found this one, particularly with the diagrams below the actual playing, very helpful and has encouraged me to finally crack this one now. Thanks very much for posting this Glenn.

Trying to master the Travis picking, but your tutorial is great because I can add the Cadd9, D6 and D7 variations in to my strumming version and it just transforms it. Many thanks!

Thank you for posting this in depth tutorial. For some reason I can do the alternating bass lines and then pick with my fingers on the off beats. But skipping an off beat pick is hard. Just need to practice. Thanks again.

I’m obsessed with John Prine since discovering his music just days before his passing. This is one of the songs I’m determined to learn, along with Hello In There and Summer’s End. I thought I’d seen every tutorial available so I’m thrilled to have yours pop up in my TH-cam suggestions. This is not necessarily an easy song just because it only has 3 chords. It is taking me a little bit to get the picking down. Part of the brilliance of John Prine aside from heartfelt lyrics that speak to experiences we all perhaps have had is that he played his songs perfectly and unapologetically. If you think these are easy, then try to play them. They are great in their subtle simplicity as well as their subtle difficulty. Great lesson. Thank you

Glenn- would love to see you do a break down on Picture Cards Can’t Picture You! Not easy songs to learn but your teaching style is really good and there really is nothing on this song!
